Quality appointments, these guys wouldn’t be joining a company like VRS unless they were confident of the quality of its product.

This will add value to its service and help justify the value it is putting on these Chinese contracts imo.

The team is really starting to grow now too. With increasing expenses and 3T current capacity, I believe the company is confident of a large order in the near term to facilitate these additional expenses.

Versarien plc (AIM: VRS), the advanced materials engineering group, is pleased to provide an update on recent senior appointments to strengthen the Company’s graphene technology team, with a particular focus on quality assurance, and the selection of the Company to be the launch client of The Graphene Council’s ‘Verified Graphene Producer’ programme in the USA.

Strengthening of Graphene Technology Team

The Company is pleased to announce the appointments of Dr Denis Koltsov and Dr Martin Kemp to strengthen its graphene technology team, with a particular focus on quality assurance. Both Dr Kemp and Dr Kolsov are at the forefront of developing the international standards that will define graphene and other nanomaterials.

Dr Denis Koltsov is Chair of ISO TC 229 Nanotechnology Standards Group at ISO (International Organization for Standardization). ISO TC 229 has already published 65 ISO standards in the field of nanotechnologies and has a further 43 standards under development. Their focus is on developing a set of peer reviewed standards for graphene and closely related materials that will facilitate the ability of producers and users of these materials to have confidence in the level of performance on a consistent and measurable basis.

Dr Martin Kemp is Chairman of the Nanomaterials Committee of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3). Of particular note, Dr Kemp has written the new standard for graphene flakes (British Standard Institution BSI PAS 1201:2018 ‘Properties of Graphene Flakes - Guide’) which was sponsored by InnovateUK and will be published in August 2018.

Graphene Council Verified Graphene Producer Programme

The Company is pleased to announce that it has been selected to be The Graphene Council’s launch client for their ‘Verified Graphene Producer’ programme, which will independently verify that the Company’s Nanene graphene nano platelets meet their demanding standards.

The US-headquartered Graphene Council is the leading platform for people and companies that are interested in the research, development and application of graphene world-wide. Founded in September 2013, more than 4,700 researchers, scientists, students and graphene commercial professionals have already joined. The Graphene Council is the USNC Technical Advisory Group to IEC TC 113, Nano-Electrotechnologies.

I thought yesterday would be about the basics which in most part it was.

As one said in a post, if the news yesterday just that they had scaled up to 3 tonnes capacity to meet anticipated demand then there would have been a lot of excitement here.

3 tonnes won't be about getting a single anticipated 3 tonne order as that would mean they couldn't supply anyone else.

More like covering anticipated orders in the 10's our 100's of kgs which can be completed in days or weeks or take all year with the other kit.

A great big plus is that at the drop of a hat, the theory of 'can expand rapidly' has just been proven and no doubt will have been a big question for those in collaborations.

I note in the scale up point they mention scale up in the UK. Perhaps to quash China thoughts or a hint that a UK buyer is on the cusp for something in the UK. Pure speculation but the Mclaren factory kicks off later this year.

They already boast graphene in one of their products (what grade, and where from, I've no idea. Maybe rubbish, or maybe Nanene ;-)

I have been trying to find out what may be up there and the best I've got far so is things are not going well.

I still haven't found the paper where it shows in many cases functionalisation didn't assist and in some cases caused damage to platelets having a detrimental effect.

I have however read that in two places now, XG sciences mention the issue and more recently Paragraf.

'Unfortunately nearly all post production functionalisation techniques are invasive and have detrimental effects on the graphene layer, significantly reducing electrical performance and frequently causing unwanted physical damage.'

I'll have a hunt for the paper it may not be published yet.

I doubt it's a 3 shift thought pattern why do that when the next kit up will do in one shift when the other takes 10.

It all depends on whether it works scaled up and imo it must do if it's ordered.

I cant see anywhere that they produce the graphene themselves....... i would imagine that they buy the graphene in to turn into films. A future customer of VRS perhaps.
