17/9/2013 10:10 | Marked rise ahead of the Trading Update on Thurs? Who knows what? | trader2
13/9/2013 12:13 | More likely the regulator rattling its sword again , can't have these utilities making money | holts
05/9/2013 14:23 | ArrrJay (You have to be a fan of "Over the Hedge" to get that one I suspect) I suspect, the Syrian situation, is probably re-directing money to places where it might get a higher immediate return, and perhaps the recognition that the SHTF moment is getting somewhat closer, so money is leaving the markets. Tapering talk has been floated for September, and of course people are worried sick about the possible implications of a strike on Syria. Oil prices spikes? PM price spikes? Gas price Spikes? Russian Navy being reinforced in the Med, Sabre rattling by John Kerry and Obama, the French poodle following behind, which COULD drive up commodity prices, and interest rates too, causing a problem for the Euro Area, and householders everywhere with mortgages to fund. There's been times in my life when I felt it was totally out of my control, but I am as concerned as I've ever been... Last time I can think it was anything like this was 1963, when Kruschev had to admit that the Cubans were building missile silos and turn his ships around to send back to Moscow. W. | wstirrup

30/8/2013 18:04 | Got my 680 limit just before the bell. Interested to see your post willshankyln. I once looked back at my trading over the previous decade and concluded that I would have done best to put all of it in UU. That was 5 yrs or so ago and a different market , but I suspect UU remains a pretty safe ploy with an outside bid chance. | wad collector
30/8/2013 15:44 | wllm Top man, aplogy for the spelling error. red | redartbmud
30/8/2013 15:33 | 'Glenfiddich' A rather lovely malt. I like a small touch of water and I'm Scottish. wllm | wllmherk
30/8/2013 15:08 | Water in the Glenfyddich - whatever next. I need a brandy to recover. | redartbmud
30/8/2013 14:22 | WAD, UU have hired Goldman Sachs apparently to produce a defensive document, and there are numerous venture (vulture) capital funds and Sovereign Wealth funds, who use their wealth to buy up assets with regular payouts (like UU). I'm on the inside as I work for the company, so see what's happening on a day-to-day basis (though don't ask me about the finances, but I can see what's happening on the office floor though) Latest changes are to do with the impending split for commercial and domestic customers. All water service companies will have to offer water to large users on preferential terms to retain their loyalty, and intermediaries one suspects who will retail the water to businesses in other regional sectors. No-one seems to have noticed though that water is NOT like a Telephone Call, Gas, Electricity or any other utility... You CAN live with it, but you CAN'T live without it - and thereby hangs a tail... You can't ADD value - Flavoured water anyone? More Flouride in your TEA sir? Would you like a little ICE for your Glenfiddyck sir? (Did I spell that right?) Anyway, it appears my xxxx is showing... Oh, and costs have just gone up as countless staff have taken the opportunity to find a more profitable venture elsewhere, forcing managers to recruit agency staff and offer inducements to those still left to work overtime. Frederick Hertzberg would be shaking his head in disbelief.. Will they ever learn? KITA doesn't work in the long term... W. | willshanklyn
23/8/2013 11:32 | Buy limit set @680. Reasonable chance of snaring at this price in the next month I reckon. | wad collector
19/8/2013 10:03 | Still waiting to add....682 and falling. | wad collector
17/8/2013 13:39 | Bought in here yesterday too. Plan to hold long term for income. Fancied a few defensive's, using dividends to pay down some personal debt. Had a bit of BP and BLND also. wllm | wllmherk
16/8/2013 18:43 | Added a few today. z | zeppo
16/8/2013 10:33 | wad collector It seems an attractive proposition right now with a good divi whatever else transpires re Cuadrilla or possible takeover. Fears of interest rates rising earlier that the BoE governor might like, may have spooked some defensive stocks yesterday. Any interest rate rise is still some way of though and it will be a long time before you can beat current income from utilities. z | zeppo
16/8/2013 10:14 | Time to add? | wad collector
02/8/2013 09:54 | Doubled up, this time in SIPP. | philo124
21/7/2013 21:33 | An interesting and potentially lucrative partnership for UU. | 1nf3rn0
02/7/2013 19:00 | Added 500 yesterday and some PNN over the last three days. Will the failed bidders switch their attention here? Took the risk of coming out of some Prefs after having fingers burned with CPBB. z | zeppo |
