22/11/2017 12:30 | Problems in Somerset... Looks like the union doesn't like govn giving money to private companies... nothing new... More ambulance staff hit out at South Western Ambulance Service after calls for boss to resign Now Unison says it is battling rota changes Chris Nelson, Unison branch secretary, South Western Ambulance and Allied Health, said the claims reflected ‘unacceptable& Mr Nelson said: “I have read the article from GMB regarding the working conditions of their members in South Western Ambulance Service and of course recognise the issues raised as being strikingly similar to those our members have raised with us. “As the only recognised trade union with South Western Ambulance Service we look after the interests of 65 per cent of its workforce and have continually fought for better working conditions for the staff, our members. “The demand being faced by the ambulance service nationally is unacceptable and puts incredible strain on those that work within it as well as their families and friends and isn’t a position that is tolerable. Whilst we recognise the GMB’s stance, we believe the issues being faced are broader than described and are systemic across the NHS, primarily due to a chronic under funding by the government of essential services such as emergency care. "There is often a common rhetoric that comes from the government that there is ‘no new money’ yet private firms such as VOCARE are being propped up with significant cash investment. This is the same organisation that contributes to the demand our members see in inadequate triage." | sikhthetech | |
