17/3/2008 08:01 | Excellent post BlueBell, you can never discount artists work otherwise all respect will go out the window, added to that if they find out you'll lose the artist. I've seen some galleries offering SALES, imagine if you were an artist and saw a piece of your work in a SALE, what would you think ! sVendo | sven2006
14/3/2008 16:55 | InvestorKing2 - 14 Mar'08 - 09:24 - 64 of 65 Hope you don't mind me commenting, but unless this is a once off purchase, you're coming at this from the wrong angle IMHO. Most prices - especially at this level - are non-negotiable as the artist will have 2 or 3 dealers - often in different parts of the country and none can depart from (the usually published) rate card for obvious reasons. Think about the artist's costs, the dealer's commission etc; knock that off the selling price and ask yourself if that's all the artist can get for it, is it worth buying !!! Remember the old adage about knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing ? Strikes me you know neither price or value !!! Try finding an artist you like and building up a relationship with the dealer (and the artist if possible) and the surrounding community. Let the dealer know what you like and your budget. For example, next time LM gets a good piece in from this artist, who's going to get a call? The clients who paid up and made the transaction pleasurable, or someone who tried (unsuccessfully) to negotiate on price and refused a reasonable offer on carriage costs ? We bought a couple of pieces from a gallery recently and when we went to pick them up we spent quite a lot of time discussing them with the people there. They showed us another piece they had - which was not on display - which we also bought and they invited us to have lunch with them and the rest of the staff (nothing fancy : a glass of wine, bread and cheese and salad) where we met a couple of dealers who were delivering stuff, one of whom knew an artist who we also collect who he put us in touch with. Everyone won, but everyone would have lost had we tried to screw them down for a few hundred quid on the first piece. Collecting art is a great pastime from which you can get great pleasure and make money, but in my experience it's best done in that order. If I were you, and you really do like the artist, I would take up LM's offer and develop that relationship. What else can you get for 375 these days which will give you years of pleasure ? Instead, you can draw a frame on your wall with a marker pen (35p) and stare at the empty space thinking of the money you've saved !!! | bluebelle

14/3/2008 09:12 | Well if you want to risk posting it - the insurance on it would not be great. And also delivery might be a bit slower. So 375 including delivery to Europe. Now that is a fair deal and her work is lovely. | little minx
14/3/2008 09:09 | Are you sure? Posting from the UK isn't that expensive. Stop breaking my balls and lets do a deal? | investorking2
14/3/2008 09:05 | Typical! It would cost a fortune to Europe and I would end up losing so not worth my while! | little minx
