13/3/2024 07:14 | The private owned Asda and Morrisons have not been purchased to be good Supermarket chains, they have been purchased to strip out any assets. Ie. The Morrisons that I briefly worked at one christmas has sold off most of the land and car park around it, it is now student accommodation. TRUMP2024 SS | superiorshares

08/3/2024 22:18 | Gecko, I think some immigration has been good in the past. Take the Irish. They came to Britain, worked hard and assimilated. Some immigration has not. Yes it must be controlled. If you listen to dear old Subperior, he would be building a wall along the South coast. There is a balance and we need to work out how to achieve that. | konradpuss
08/3/2024 21:25 | Konrad We cant build enough houses. Max we have ever built in any given year is what? 225,000? 250,000? Govts recent target was 300,000 and you surely saw the article where it was claimed UK needed 400,000 new homes per year to cope with the soaring population! ie Most of the excess demand swamping supply was due to Immigration of so many people. We need to cut Immigration down massively. As well as say goodbye to the undesirables, many who shouldnt even be here(with their extended families) who are taking up needed housing. Articles Britain’s chronic housing shortage is about to get even worse The housing crisis is worsening after the government missed its annual target of building 300,000 homes while demand keeps on increasing. That’s making home affordability a key political battleground before upcoming elections. Britain needs to build 400,000 new homes a year to meet chronic shortages, analysis shows And sorting out Nimbyism is also key. Often many of these Nimbys are perfectly happy to have unfettered Immigration but dont want to pay for the consequences of such. UK population is growing too fast. We need to build more homes. We need to make planning/building easier, in addition to reducing Immigration levels. | geckotheglorious
08/3/2024 19:00 | Subperior, it's economics 1.01. Build more houses and many of the problems of this country would rapidly reduce. Folk would not have to leverage themselves up to the eye balls with debt to buy a property. Unfortunately I do not see supply ramping up so I am of the view that house prices will not go down on average over the next few years. There will not be much growth mind as interest rates will not go back to the 'free money' rates of the last few years. By the way, you do not have to tarmac over the green belt to build more houses. What you need is a much more efficient non-NIMBY (spot the capitals) planning system. A Labour government might free up the planning system, I did say might! Just look at why HS2 has cost so much money. It's the tunnels so as not to upset those Conservative voters. Very NIMBY! Now ponder that when you are eating your Tesco breakfast - obviously minus the fried bread. | konradpuss
08/3/2024 17:57 | Subperior, I think the house building numbers currently flag up you might be wrong. House building registrations last year were down 45%. The red tape (read planning and construction) is hobbling the house building industry. Oh! and the lack of skilled labour. Perhaps you should vote with your feet. Sell the three 'Ponderosas' and move back to a flat in Harrow hopefully near a Tesco. | konradpuss |
