29/11/2019 14:01 | Mark. I would hope that would be covered be a surveyors report, if not the many local searches (atleast in UK). I would have assumed they aren't pushed for space in USA but guess Florida is more densely populated than most states. | ![]() dr_smith
29/11/2019 12:29 | dave When I live in Florida they had a long drought. In the Drought people sold lake beds and others went and had homes built on those plots When the drought finally broke a couple of years later, some of those properties had disappeared completely. The lesson was before buying land go the library and check historical photos to see what you were actually buying | ![]() marksp2011
29/11/2019 08:19 | WFL. Yes, I used to live near Bedford. I heard they had built houses on flood plains. Later they flooded. I would normally have a witty response, but that just leaves me with a stunned "Well yeah...". | ![]() dr_smith
28/11/2019 22:30 | Plenty more floodplains to develop yet... Though our ancestors thought better of it! | wfl1970
28/11/2019 17:40 | Surprisingly, only 6% of the UK is built on. That includes tarmac. Plenty of places to build on. | ![]() 1carus
28/11/2019 15:15 | It is one of those holiday home parks. It was like this... hxxps://nethousepric The one I was looking at was on the Eastern Road and they wouldn't accept a mortgage. It was £165,000 cash in hand. | ![]() philoosh
28/11/2019 14:49 | Now I am intrigued. How do you build a brick house on land that doesn't belong to you? | ![]() marksp2011
28/11/2019 14:41 | I was looking at a house in Portsmouth recently that was a brick build but due to its location it was classed as a park home and therefore I couldn't get a mortgage to buy it, even though my house is worth more. And the other issue is that the land under it doesn't belong to the owner so even though its solid with foundations the landowner could effectively ask the owner to up sticks and move it. Not all brick builds are great either. | ![]() philoosh
28/11/2019 14:08 | Wmainw, Jugs, Mark thanks for comments. In return, latest from Nationwide on house prices: "On home shores, investors mulled the latest survey from Nationwide, which showed that house prices grew more than expected in November, hitting a seven-month high but remaining 'subdued'. House prices were up 0.5% on the month, which was an improvement on 0.2% growth in October and better than expectations of a 0.1% increase. On the year, house prices rose 0.8% in November, up from 0.4% the month before and ahead of expectations of 0.2% growth. This also marked the strongest jump since April." | ![]() m4rtinu
28/11/2019 13:20 | There is an issue with "non-standard" builds If you are lending over 40 years you would like to see some sort of evidence that the building method will last that long and preferably longer i am not convinced by modular wood frames either. I have nout against wood as a building material but is the house built out of decent wood is the question I would like the answer to. My occasional wanderings around building sites have given me cause for thought. | ![]() marksp2011
28/11/2019 11:11 | Does the modular home mortgage fall under the same rules as park homes stuff? | ![]() philoosh
28/11/2019 11:06 | Back to the future with the struggle to break 180p ;) | ![]() gbh2
28/11/2019 10:53 | m4rtinu- Work for me has never been busier, Modular homes have not in my opinion taken off very well Despite what mwainw1973 says & wont because it is very difficult getting a mortgage for anything other than bricks & mortar, Modular in my opinion has a limited market & you can see this by the number of modular home builders that go bust | ![]() jugears
28/11/2019 10:29 | Sorry Barratts 5 year high 700p. | ![]() omg48
28/11/2019 10:27 | Good to see rise on the expectation of Boris majority but TW still lagging behind. For instance Barratts virtually near 5 year high of 800p but TW's high of 210p long way off. | ![]() omg48
28/11/2019 10:25 | You need to get back to tree party politics... ;) | wfl1970
28/11/2019 10:06 | Not a chance Owen! | ![]() philoosh
28/11/2019 09:58 | I work in the construction industry as a manufacturer of the building materials rather than the construction itself and modular is growing rapidly whether it be timber or steel framed systems as panellised solutions for speedier builds | ![]() mwainw1973
28/11/2019 09:56 | you think the planet's future depends on them but you still wouldn't vote lib/lab ! | ![]() owencoffin
28/11/2019 09:50 | Jugears that would be music to my ears! Although I can't see where all these new houses can be built. Where is there land available that isn't private, or green belt, or national park and woodland. Lib Dem want to plant a million trees, and labour want more national parks. Although I don't want either party in I have to say that we need both for the planets future. With an increasing population where can we build? | ![]() philoosh
28/11/2019 09:23 | Jugs - is there much going on in the industry, in the way of modular homes? Thanks. MU. | ![]() m4rtinu
28/11/2019 08:51 | Philoosh, if Boris gets back in I would expect these to be nearer £2 by Christmas, should we ever leave the EU then who knows the sky is the limit. | ![]() jugears
28/11/2019 08:42 | I am loving this rise. Long may it continue! Is it likely to hit the £2 mark before Christmas? Obviously we have the election to get through but with the Tories looking strong this must be seen by the market as calming. Fingers crossed. | ![]() philoosh |
