Jugears,
Leasehold has been around for years..but mainly on flats and shared common areas...

Because of H2B was leasehold, House builders saw the opportunity and misused it for their own gains...

Majority of buyers of flats know they are buying leasehold...
The difference is majority of buyers of SINGLE DWELLING NEW BUILDS weren't expecting homes to be leasehold...

The leasehold scandal on single dwelling new builds took off because of H2B...

and H2B is funded using loans from the government....
Financial scandal in the making..

... it was just another revenue stream for the builders. As for flats down south leasehold has always been more expensive than in the North. Just a more sophisticated market. Of course not a more sophisticated population 😃

Sikh, not sure your last response adds anything to your argument. Exploitation of leasehold started a while ago regardless of shared ownership or HtB. Thirty years ago leasehold costs were negligible, then the builders started selling them to “investorsR21; rather than the occupiers, and in doing so they ratcheted up the terms so they were worth more to an investor. Nothing to do with HtB.

and also...

The government is providing loans which are repayable with interest.

When house prices fall and homeowners can't afford to pay the additional H2B loan, who will end up with the bad Help2Buy loans bank?... the huge £20bln worth...The government and ultimately the taxpayer...
another financial scandal looming..

Jugears...

"I am not sure you are correct when you say help2buy lead to leasehold scandal, Leasehold has been around a lot longer than help2buy"

Yes H2B did lead to the recent leasehold scandal on single dwelling New Builds... and housebuilders inserted onerous terms into the leases, like ground rent doubling every 10yrs, before selling the leases to 3rd party management companies...

From the government website:

"With Help to Buy: Shared Ownership you can buy a newly built home....Shared Ownership properties are always leasehold."

TM's last WA vote was defeated by 344 -286 the first vote was 432 -202. That was a substantial shift. Movements in vote count double as they are a move away from one side to a vote to the other. So based on the last vote you are looking at a swing of 58ish, that's a net change of 29 in Boris's favour if he is to win. That is possible but difficult if the DUP goes the other way.
34 tories were against last time, and 2 labour went back to voting to remain. So potentially an additionally 36 votes he can claw back. We also don't know how the inde's will vote. ( 36 -10 for dup is 26) Not that I would want this, but it is very close and there would be some irony if Bercow has a casting vote!!

WFL, exactly...

If Teresa May had a problem getting it voted through then I suspect Boris will as well...

Majority of MPs are voting to save their jobs/ego and not for what is right for the country...

Boris' deal is 90% of Mays deal, which Boris resigned from Mays cabinet over and voted against in the commons.

What short memories folk have...

1carus, whether it's Help2Buy or Rent2Buy, these kind of deals always cause problems in the long run...

Help2Buy resulted in the Leasehold scandal by some housebuilders....

Leaving with a deal is not a victory for leavers... the deal is being negotiated with...
oh, the EU.. They want UK to leave with a deal, as they too have a lot to lose if UK leaves without a deal... for one the divorce bill is massive...

In 2016, nobody knew there was going to be deal and if so, what it would constitute...

Leaving with a deal is a leavers 2nd best option...
Leaving with a deal is a remainers 2nd best option...

There are no winners, simple..

Any leaver who thinks otherwise, is lying to themselves..

there was some announcement yesterday about the government supporting rent to buy schemes through housing associations so that the youngsters can start taking a stake in the house they live in etc.... not necessarily TW.s market place but its not a huge leap to a scheme that would allow them to buy 1/4 or 1/2 share in property with support from regulated schemes. There is still plenty of scope to keep stimulating the housing market. ( not to mention adjusting stamp duty and relaxing the current taxation for landlords--- gone to far in my opinion)

"Tough titties, you lost" - usual cliched Leaver drivel. You have won absolutely nothing at all - and if Johnson's surrender deal does go through you will soon realise that there are no winners. Brexit always was a stupid idea for stupid people.

So much fun seeing the remoaners writhing around in agony. Even sweeter after their 3 years of trying to overthrow democracy just to get their sick way. Tough titties, you lost.

The spelling on here is atrocious
i think Jugears is German. That would explain the random capitalisation of nouns.
