27/7/2015 09:05 | Banks and building societies will begin to withdraw their best mortgage deals next week as home owners scramble to beat the rise in interest rates this winter. Two of Britain's biggest lenders, Barclays and Santander, are planning increases for Monday and Tuesday that will add hundreds of pounds to the cost of new loans, The Telegraph understands. Experts warned of a "domino effect" as rival banks pull their most attractive offers to avoid being deluged with applications for fixed rate deals. It comes as new figures show the number of people remortgaging has risen by a fifth, with families switching from variable rate mortgages as the era of rock-bottom interest rates nears its end. The Bank of England last week announced that it would start increasing its rates by the end of the year – a move which many had anticipated. | ![]() taffee

14/7/2015 15:08 | Carney's "guidance"! BoE seems to have this silly game where they think they can outmanoeuvre money markets, who in turn continually change their predictions, about when a rate rise will come. | ![]() m4rtinu

09/7/2015 15:41 | Well I am certainly glad I bought more yesterday, Now why did they actually fall?I expect all the brokers were at Wimbledon & the office juniors were left in charge, Not sure who will be running things today with the tube strikes, Probably why they have gone up, I have searched all morning & in my 35 years of investing can find absolutely no reason for yesterdays fall, The tax breaks for the average buy to let is not particularly that great & certainly didn't warrant a 10p fall, It doesn't really matter what happens in the rest of the world The uk is not producing anywhere near enough homes & as each year passes we are falling further & further behind our targets so if anything demand for houses will get stronger & prices will continue to rise forcing the first time buyer to rent. Of course the government could do something about this by granting planning for houses where it would not have normally given permission, but with a condition that the land can only be sold at a reduced cost for estates of just affordable housing,as the way things are going at some point in the future there will be an oversupply of luxury 3 & 4 bedroom houses & current land prices do not justify affordable houses to be built in any large quantities. | ![]() jugears

09/7/2015 12:32 | Maintenance dividend is less than 1% but there was a special distribution of 7.68p per share. It was stated in the full year results that these cash returns would continue where there was surplus cash; obviously not guaranteed, but that gives around 5% return for the last financial year based on todays share price. | ![]() binghall |
