The spread of coronavirus across Australia could see unemployment reach about 10 per cent and house prices drop 20 per cent — and that may not even be the worst-case scenario, according to one economist.

Key points:

More people are withdrawing auctions from the market as bans on social gatherings get more stringent
Economists fear indebted households are more at risk during a recession
In the best-case scenario house prices will fall 5 per cent, and in the worst case, 20 per cent or more
With the threat of COVID-19 resulting in almost-hourly updates from federal and state leaders and agencies about travel bans and closures of various businesses, economists say putting an exact figure on how big the house price slump will be is tricky.

They need someone to blame NHS. Human nature unfortunately, they never look at their own doorstep.
Next they’ll be undertaking domestic violence on their partners. There’ll be quite a few battered sheep’s in their households tonight. Lol.

Good morning all. I have dipped my toes back in the water with TW.

Post Brexit vote all those years ago this was one of the biggest fallers in the FTSE100. It was my best performing recovery shares in the years that followed. They even paid a few dividends ;-)

It's in my SIPP so I am not in any rush for it to climb back to where it was previously.

What is a depression, then?
There is no set definition for a "depression", but when a country is faced with a prolonged economic downturn that is measured in years, rather than quarters - then you can be pretty certain it is experiencing a depression. The Great Depression, for example, began in 1929 and lasted until 1939.
