05/4/2020 22:35 | I am most definitely not a fan of Boris but we need him to be back in control. I think his absence will be very destabilising. | ![]() nobbygnome

05/4/2020 22:30 | Boris has been looking increasingly unwell in the videos he's put out. A Marmite figure he may be - but there is no 'blue-print' for how to handle this crisis (short of China's martial law - and frankly, I have little faith in their figure of only 3,500 or so, fatalities). Our nation needs Boris right now - I wish him the speediest of recoveries - with or without SNG001. | ![]() 801710245
05/4/2020 22:29 | Boris gets worse SNG sends him a case of Bollinger and a litre of interferon spray he gets immediately better (both because of the bubbles and of interferon) we become immediately millionaires | ![]() the patient investor

05/4/2020 20:58 | Interesting article in the Sunday Telegraph today which is semi-related to what Synairgen are doing with beta interferon. It regards a new test being developed that will detect whether the immune system has been switched on to attack a virus. This is from the article: "Scientists based in Newcastle believe a third type of test, which gives an early warning sign of infection, could be vital in stopping the further spread of the killer disease. Colin Self, Emeritus Professor at Newcastle University and CEO of Selective Antibodies Ltd, which developed the new test, has described it as a "belt and braces" option that could slow the spread. The test which could be delivered to millions of homes through the post, works by detecting a very early marker in the human body which is released once the immune system has been activated following an infection. Certain 'immune activation molecules',unleashed by the immune system as a result of infection can be detected even before any symptoms are noticed by the person. One of these markers is called neopterin and was shown to have real value during research into HIV and SARS infection. Whilst the neopterin does not specifically identify the Covid-19 infection it does show that the immune system has been activated, likely by a viral infection, and therefore could prove a powerful tool in the fight against the deadly disease by acting as an early warning sign for those who are not yet symptomatic and should be separated for further investigation, possibly over the following days. Professor Self believes with the appropriate funding and support for the remaining stages of research and development, the first form of test could be available within three months" It seems that neopterin is produced on stimulation by interferon beta. So in essence thes company producing this test is basing their result on the very same scientific process that Synairgen are with SNG001 and the fact that both are predicated on previous results from the likes of SARS. I am slightly puzzled by the fact that CEO Richard Marsden said that Covid-19 could switch off Interferon Beta production so I'm not too sure whether the test would be effective? Maybe switches off once it has been initially activated. It was in today's Sunday telegraph but don't have access the full article due to paywall | ![]() davew28
05/4/2020 20:47 | Seriously guys! You are having a go at nobbyg for posting that we are not in the recovery trial, and then questioning the emails validity? I would question the content, if he said otherwise. The Patient Investor,We don't need ur righteous type here, cos u really don't add any value to the discussion as seen on other threads. 05/4/2020 19:50 | Good post just now from lse board... From, I think, reliable sources, with short extracts. NHS Health Research Authority IFN-ß protects cells against the MERS and SARS coronaviruses (close relatives of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19). SNG001 is an inhaled formulation of interferon beta-1a it is currently in Phase II clinical trials for COPD patients. Synairgen has conducted randomised placebo controlled clinical trials of SNG001 involving >200 asthma and COPD patients. These trials have shown that SNG001 has: • been well tolerated during virus infections • enhanced antiviral activity in the lungs (measured in sputum and blood samples) • provided significant lung function benefit over placebo in asthma in two Phase II trials. We believe SNG001 could help prevent worsening or accelerate recovery of severe lower respiratory tract illness in COVID-19 patients. National Institute for Health Research The purpose of this study is to confirm that SNG001 can prevent/limit the worsening of LRT illness in the context of SARS-CoV-2. Safety and efficacy will be assessed. University Hospital Southampton SG016 A randomised double-blind placebo-controlled trial to determine the safety and efficacy of inhaled SNG001 (IFN-ß1a for nebulisation) for the treatment of patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. University Hospitals of Leicester SARS Cov-2 infection study In this clinical trial, patients who have confirmed COVID-19 and pneumonia will be given either a nebulised version of interferon beta (a naturally-occurring protein that supports anti-viral responses in the body) or a placebo (‘dummy’ medicine). STATUS: Sponsor green light; due to start recruiting 06.04.20 Nottingham University Hospitals "The idea behind the trial is that, by giving more of this molecule to the lung, this could help reduce the severity of infection with Covid-19, especially in those people who have reduced immune responses to the virus," said Prof Hall. EU Clinical trials for Covid-19 (half way down first page) Please DYOR and please post other sign-ups or progress reports. GLA | ![]() likya123
