Many thanks all.

I was reassured to see Paul's comments on Montier's screen. I noticed that too, looked at Montier's criteria, but couldn't see how SPSY was falling foul of them.

Zeus' guidance for 2026 makes some sense of the low rating but if Stocko's current figures are correct then it seems that forecast earnings for 2024 and 2025 have both been increased since Paul's July post.

Just updating my notes and see that Stockopedia have forecast earnings of 21.1c (16.2p) for 2024 and 44.3c (34p) for 2025 for an end 2025 PE of 7.3 which, on the face of it, is implausibly cheap for a company with a good record of growing earnings, high growth forecast for the next few years, a 7 year record of broker upgrades (and no downgrades) and net cash.

If there is a catch, and there may be, I'd like to know what it is.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The catch is, it's a great company, but like many such you need to have the patience to see the case develop. I have held in one folio on behalf of a 3rd party for several years on a position where we are now 82% up. Yet on my own behalf where i am far less patient, i think I scalped a quick 25% percent a year or so ago, promising myself to get back when the price was right. since when, it has broken up into the new £2+ trading range.

I seem to be not the only one who missed a trick. This is Paul Scott writing on Stocko back in July:

Hi zho,
No catch as far as i can see, just a company not really on PI's radar I suppose.
they always seem undervalued and always seem to overdeliver on their promises.
If you can find it there was a very good Mello presentation by Alan Charlton on the recent Mello BASH. I think i saw it on YT.

HL and ii are good, both need a w-Ben form. Remember (bizarrely) that you get 30% level in a SIPP, 15% in an ISA.

I think there is a similar issue re witholding tax at IWeb (part of Halifax) - my experience relates to Somero which is US domiciled, but UK listed like SPSY. They will allow one to buy, but simply refuse to try to reclaim the 15% without being willing / able to explain why.

A J Bell no problem just buy or sell. Jarvis want a W-Ben form before they'll deal.

HSBC is the same, the reason a pathetic falure to be able to apply the 15% witholding tax rather than the 30% they incorrectly charged for years.

>>Would be nice to have some sort of instruction in place should the unforeseen happen.>>

In essense, obtaining probate involves making a statement of all assets and liabilities at the date of death, so you could make things easier for your executors by keeping an updated list of:

Bank, savings and stockbroker accounts, details of pensions, properties, jewellery, other valuables and so on, and on the other side of the balance sheet details of your mortgage, credit cards, store cards, car loan etc

I skim-read a couple of probate guides and I thought both were poor.

I learnt more from looking at the various schedules (i.e. forms) I had to fill in (e.g. one for property, one for savings accounts, one for listed shares, one for unlisted shares, and so on), and from the IR's IHT guide, which was comprehensive and well-written:

Without wishing to take up space on thread , could anyone suggest some good reading regarding probate and shares account, SIPP in my case?DbD

One thing I found doing probate was that the broker (A J Bell) would only accept instructions to sell all holdings in their entirety in one go - not necessarily the best course of action.

happens too often with no explanation. I'm sure someone tells the LSE they want a million share at a much lower price and won't sell for three year. All over G&Ts in the club. Price comes downm buy and back to normal...or am I nuts. No one can explain this.

And at ANP. Could argue they just present investors with buying opportunities though, so not a bad thing!

Somebody wanted out pretty badly to dump such a relatively small amount so far below the bid price.
Either utter muppets or know something that I don't. Time will tell which it is.

>>Why the bump down?>>

The culprit could be that late sale of c. 108K shares at just 222p at 14.23.
