True. But a 10% increase on a 4% holding doesn't amount to much. It's a bit misleading to highlight a single holding that's risen (or fallen) significantly & draw any conclusions. That said, I'm a big fan of SMT and still regard it as a good long term bet (albeit high risk). Its low fees & dividend (though small) are the icing on the cake for me.

SMT less dynamic than usual and I thought it would be a bit higher today with nasdaq up about 100 since UK close on friday . one never knows in markets !

Hi all,Long time SMT holder, first time posting on the thread.Bmel, I completely agree about Motley Fool. Waste of a website and such a con. I get that there are differences in opinion but to the influx of new investors who think it's a wise resource, it's just a method for the company years down the line to claim that all their great calls and poor calls were right.

Most of Motley Fool material is pretty inane.

You can get two authors writing about the same company two days apart offering wildly different views - best ignored.

physical has shot up a bit at opening and instant reaction from SMT which is almost a proxy for the nasdaq as mirrors it's movement unlike PCT and ATT .

just studying nasdaq chart hartleyjr and medium and long term uptrend still in place and not yet a lower high or a lower low which would indicate a change of trend . near mini support at 12930 but 12400 is main support area and needs to hold that to prevent a lower low . let's hope for an intra day rally from 2.30pm when physical opens .

Overall feels very toppy across markets generally to me, a lot of key assets making lower highs, lots of selling into any strength. Clearly jitters re: mutations won't help cyclicals either so it's hard to know the smart move at the moment. To be clear - I do like SMT very much and it has been a great long-term investment but I'm worried about general sentiment at the moment and am too nervous about buying back in at 1100p and seeing it fall as the NASDAQ retreats to what I think could be about the 11K mark. But obviously that's all just my guesswork and I fully understand others longer-term timeframes.

It's maybe a daft thing to say but I think there's a FOMO / FUD correlation between crypto sentiment and NASDAQ sentiment. Lot of overlap in the retail investors in this space, increasing overlap in the institutional investors in this space, obvs led by ARK. Expect TSLA to be sub $560 during the session today and the fun to really start, and as you know I think TSLA might send a wider sentiment signal across NASDAQ. I am 85%, 10% stonks (of which STSL = about half) and 5% crypto at the moment (which obviously is pretty ugly this past week!)

nasdaq worried by another rise in US Bond yields which is not good for SMT but helping the bank stocks even on a bearish day in markets . So just watching nasdaq futures for any sign of recovery as SMT then a good bet for a day trade .

YES, NAS is not recovering much and SMT was another 6p lower after the auction. A lot can happen between now at 9pm but US markets are mainly languid today and gold doing well

SMT/Ballie Gifford played Tesla perfectly, selling at the peak and reducing exposure at the right time. Loading up the huge profits into the next projects to grow for the 5/10 year cycle. For what it's worth, there will be bumps in the road but I still think Tesla will come good, probably in spite of and because of Elon Musk. The managers of SMT accepted this risk when they took on Musk and Tesla into the portfolio, their patience was ultimately rewarded.

(not that Tesla has much direct bearing on SMT any more - but given it's size it does have a bearing on the NASDAQ and general sentiment)

Musk is having another one of his 'episodes' - it's very weird. Either you believe that he didn't understand BTC when Tesla bought $1.5bn of it in Feb and it's associated energy requirement (highly unlikely) or he's just shilling the market and playing crypto with Tesla's balance sheet. Either way, if I were an institutional fund manager I'd be concerned by his erratic behaviour - far too concerned by his 55m followers on twitter and appearing Messiah-like. Tesla's stock is hovering about the 200 day MA - lots of clear air below 550 to next support around 400. And him talking down an asset his company bought 3 months ago isn't great for Tesla's balance sheet. Should never have bought into it. But I wouldn't expect Cathie & co to lose faith in their little prince any time soon.

TSLA is damaged owning dirty bitcoins. It has to sell now to keep green subsidies.

Bitcoin mining is causing massive pollution, will get worse.

Investment funds have to stay clean.
