18/3/2021 10:11 | but is the concern that "printing " money ( actually not so but done electronically) will eventually lead to inflation and higher interest rates ? hence bond prices falling and the chart tells the story . So SMT is just for trading until the position is clearer and bond yields start to fall . | arja
18/3/2021 09:30 | Have just bought SMT @ 1144p - Meituan, Alibaba, Tencent all up 3-5% overnight, I think market will look through bond yields again (we all know the only trick that's left for central bankers is print, print print with MMT). Looking for 5% scalp. | hartleyjr1
18/3/2021 07:38 | sudden leap in bond yields in last 30 minutes has made nasdaq futures lose about 130 to 13085 ! would have been a bright opening for SMT but now might only open up a touch! | arja
17/3/2021 19:34 | No problem, happy to help. So much information out there to help us average Joe investors, day traders etc. We can never beat the market but we have more of an edge than we used too.VW CEO seems to have taken a leaf out of Musks personality and hi end presentations, not sure if it's as effective from a German!! Big push from VW now, there is room for plenty in the upcoming EV bull run, however as is the case with almost every aspect of the market, scale gives massive advantages. Tesla, VW, Nio will all be the behemoths, with some of the South East Asian players too. Keep an eye on Tata Motors, from India, they are going to push luxury EV brands, Jaguar/Land Rover. | dexter1612
17/3/2021 18:43 | @dexter - just wanted to say thank you for flagging up that Northvolt story - prompted me to add to my VW stake the following morning @EUR250/share. Genuinely grateful for you posting that news - seems the market is starting to come to appreciate the possible significance. | hartleyjr1
17/3/2021 13:58 | Nice bio of the Stripe boys this morning | sf5
17/3/2021 13:18 | Just as well your waiting until its goes to 800 then? | dexter1612
17/3/2021 13:01 | I can't see SMT getting back to 1400 by the end of the year | 12toes
17/3/2021 10:29 | bond yields rising again which will not help the nasdaq and tech stocks . But things can change quickly | arja
16/3/2021 20:35 | Hi all, My mate Peter @Conkers3 and myself did a ‘Twin Petes Investing’ Podcast last week and part of our discussion includes SMT and our thoughts on where Tech is going. As always we also chatted about loads of other Stocks and Ideas for research and a fair bit of educational stuff with regards to Investing and Portfolio Management. Specific topics in this one include the risks of anonymous Twitter Accounts and the devious tricks the ‘owners’ get up to, and we give examples of our own Trades and how we have Scaled in and Scaled out etc. Anyway, if you use Youtube, Apple, Audioboom, Overcast, Google+ or Spotify you can find it under the 'Conkers Corner' Channel (you want Podcast TPI 44) and you can find it on Soundcloud at the link below. I hope you enjoy it and find it useful, we try to keep them light and they are totally unscripted, with the intent being that it is like you are eavesdropping on us having a chat down the local boozer (we can dream !!). Cheers, WD @wheeliedealer | thewheeliedealer
16/3/2021 11:23 | @jefflan - absolutely. I think as punters all we can do is concern ourselves with os general market trends - e.g. cyclicals vs. high tech. I personally am v. bearish Tesla and am short Tesla, long VW as a form of BEV pair trade, and I'm long-term bullish on tech but short-term 6-9m bearish. But I'm still interested in the non-listed holdings that SMT has. As you rightly say, there needs to be trust in BG's team, but it's always interesting to hear insight about market moves / news on cos that SMT holds. | hartleyjr1
16/3/2021 11:17 | These comments are not specific to SMT but as there has been much comment here on the underlying stocks, I'll make them here. I'm a stockpicker by nature and until recently had never held a managed fund in my life other than in a pension fund. I have recently put together a portfolio of IT's for my wife so she doesn't have to worry about management after I've 'gone'. Surely the point about such managed funds is to let the managers manage, and not try to second-guess every decision they make about individual holdings, otherwise why not just hold the stocks directly and take your own decisions about weighting, when to buy, sell, hold etc? | jeffian
16/3/2021 09:40 | Thanks n0rbie - yes, I download the update SMT portfolio eacb month into Excel and link to price feeds (where possible) to crudely calculate the daily NAV - thanks for your thoughts on approx current value of stake / % of portfolio. | hartleyjr1
16/3/2021 08:35 | You can download the full SMT portfolio on their website. Stripe is 0.7% of total assets as of 31/01/21. I expect that will be based on their prior fund raise (Series G) which was April 2020, valuation $35.4B. Their Series H round which was announced just two days ago has a $94.4B valuation. Baillie Gifford took part in this latest round so it would be hard to know what their current holding is in SMT until the portfolio is updated. I would guess it's more like 2% of total assets given the valuation increase and possible add. Valuation and funding round data is from | n0rbie
15/3/2021 22:15 | @Dexter - thanks for the post on Northvolt though - interesting for SMT and also for VW which I currently own. | hartleyjr1
15/3/2021 21:22 | Hartley, I've no issue with an opposing point of view, that's healthy and most welcome. However, you were at it, which is fine as well, it's a message forum on the Internet!Oh and prepare to be properly rampedhttps://electr | dexter1612
15/3/2021 14:02 | How very pathetic. How anyone can get so wound up about someone asking questions about an investment trust beggars belief, but there we go... | hartleyjr1
15/3/2021 12:50 | Hartley is a windbag who adds nothing but noise to this discussion, filtered. | epo001
15/3/2021 12:14 | Lol, your hard to please, almost like your desperate to see this fund collapse:) | dexter1612
15/3/2021 11:35 | Doesn't appear to be public knowledge. Makes it hard to know how significant stripe is if we don't know how much they hold. | hartleyjr1
15/3/2021 11:33 | That means 0.7% of SMT's fund valuation is Stripe - I knew that already (valued at around £115m). What I'm interested to know is what % of Stripe SMT holds. | hartleyjr1
15/3/2021 10:30 | As of January SMT had 0.7%, BG USA 1.9 and BGs Schielllion fund 5.4%... | dexter1612 |
