11/11/2023 10:29 | They refused to dock | koetser
11/11/2023 10:28 | Nope they were advised to stop at Lisbon. But they said they did not have enough time. Oh well that is £4.2M off the bottom line. Could have been worse | koetser
11/11/2023 07:04 | Another baseless statement Koetser. Please demonstrate where Saga were bottom of any list? Discovery already had a berthing Slot and presumably contracted provisions too at La Coruna for day 13 of the itinerary. To my knowledge, Lisbon has a maximum of 6 Cruise berths and that's assuming the Old Terminal berths aren't being used for anything else. If the port has between 2-4 scheduled cruise arrivals per day, that doesn't exactly leave much for all the other global Operators as a diversion does it? | mighunter
10/11/2023 20:59 | That is quite a hit. £4.2M in my estimation but the right thing to do | koetser
10/11/2023 20:30 | Saga is refunding in Full the cost of the cruise for the Spirit of Discovery passengers who endured the nightmare of the Bay of Biscay | jsforum
10/11/2023 18:24 | Bless mighunter’s little cotton socks. So there was another ship that did not heed the warning. And why was saga at the bottom of the list when it came to ships seeking shelter may I ask | koetser
10/11/2023 17:38 | Mr Reynolds is so on the ball. The only cruise ship not to seek shelter he says. For one he's wrong, for two he also doesn't consider for a second that ports do not have unlimited berth capacity for existing scheduled traffic plus diversions. The Fred Olsen Balmoral was damaged by the same storm see hTTps://www.tradewin | mighunter
10/11/2023 17:35 | Bless Koetser, you've been completely suckered in by the Ambulance chaser and his elsewhere reported "un-named wife" that have between them already sold their story to every paper going. Not before making sure to photograph the Cabin with chair toppled - but bags all packed, the toppled lamp but staff still serving. | mighunter
10/11/2023 16:57 | People set to sea in search of adventure and tales to tell their mates. They get that in spades and then whinge and moan. Ffs i thought us elders were made of stronger stuff. | purplepelmets
10/11/2023 13:46 | This is an excerpt from an article: Mr Reynolds claims Saga prioritised getting the ship back ready for the next cruise. He said: 'The bottom line is we shouldn't have been there, we were the only cruise ship that didn't seek shelter. 'Three days before the storm hit we were told we were trying to get ahead of if. All they cared about was getting back in time for the next cruise. 'They put getting the boat back ahead of safety. I was tracking this storm on my phone two days before we got to it, they thought they could get ahead of it but we were left trapped in the storm with 14-metre waves and 70mph winds.' | koetser
10/11/2023 13:37 | Not quite what you say as similar ships decided to dock at Lisbon while saga decided to make a run for it and took a risk | koetser
10/11/2023 13:03 | Again, not really the facts though is it? The crew had already elected to shorten the trip and head for La Coruna to get ahead of the storm. The port became closed during the diversion and on the subsequent return to U.K. there was an inadvertent activation of a safety system. Not quite the picture you paint, which is a shame as the content of some of your regular posts is otherwise quite good. | mighunter
10/11/2023 12:16 | So my point is that other ships decided to shelter and saga did not | koetser
10/11/2023 12:01 | And FYI I see Discovery is already back at sea. | mighunter
10/11/2023 11:59 | Koetser come on? You say not sure if ship was damaged and not sure they took risks but then also call for the Skipper to be fired? Really, based on what you admit you don't know? You cannot eliminate risk from the travel industry especially that from weather and especially in a Bay that is notorious for rough conditions. Let's give Saga a little more credit as an operator before jumping to ill founded conclusions. | mighunter
08/11/2023 17:32 | Just been a report on the incident on Channel 5 news, people going to exploit the situation for some big money compo...just hope it not affect the share price too much. | kulvinder
08/11/2023 15:52 | Some strange stock movements today on tiny volume | koetser
08/11/2023 15:18 | I think saga were lucky here. Not sure if they took any risks etc. but if there was a death or serious damage to ship. And also bad publicity from clients. | koetser
08/11/2023 10:59 | Do let us know how you get on? Crew happy and confident, ship run well etc. Booking process good? Thanks | the oak tree
08/11/2023 10:54 | I'm actually on the same ship in January 🙄 | skinny
08/11/2023 10:52 | Huge demand for cruises at the moment. Unlikely to cause SAGA cruises any lasting issue imo. | aishah
08/11/2023 00:42 | Telgraph: Times: | glavey
07/11/2023 10:27 | Be alert Spirit of discovery incident returned to port could affect future bookings and expect insurance claims to arise 100 odd people injured. No statement yet | jubberjim
26/10/2023 21:59 | Anyone looking for Discodave? He's here | normawoods |
