I think the mistake was not political and wether or not the boss is a remainer or a brexiteer, but in his choice for the appointment of the FD.Not the first accountant to make a major blunder that has cost RR dear. John Rishton a previous BA. FD who was appointed to CE of RR was the idiot who took them out of the IAE joint venture and hence out of the booming short haul narrow ailse segment and at the same time RR also lost its foothold in the regional aircraft market. His 3C's strategy significantly increased business risk and resulted in the loss of diversification that would have been a mitigation in the current crisis.

It looks a basket case after those results. After waiting on the sidelines for the results I think I'll stay away

Whilst I agree being out of the EU is a negative for RR, Tempest currently involves Italy and Sweden and the last time I looked they were both part of the EU!

The directors were worried about Brexit that is true.

On the military side there were several European projects over the years which gave RR and B.Ae. design leadership.
Typhoon, Tornado, Jaguar are just 3 successful examples that led to many exports and years of work.

The latest generation aircraft the Tempest is ready to go into the next phase, but without our EU. partners it would be very expensive.
The EU. were anxious to retain independence from America with regards to defence equipment, and that was good for RR.

If the Tempest fails, and Airbus rethink the sourcing of Airbus wings by B.Ae. post Brexit, some say it will be the beginning of the end for much of the UK aero industry.

Well done Boris, well done Nigel, and all of those Brexit voters.

Losing 3 billion in hedging, clearly the boss was a remainer and his political views and emotions have wrecked Rolls Royce. He needs to be fired.

Maybe the disposals are to make RR. clean for merger or takeover.
But who would want to own the liabilities?
It would be like marrying someone with a huge mortgage and debts.
The usual fiddle is to sell off the good bits and leave the debts with the rest.

Game over really..A takeover ensures this company's long term survival.
Civil aviation wont recover for a few years.

Perhaps a BAE acquisition in order. Keep it British

What a mess.
Good to see the CFO out.

How they can make such losses on hedging currency year in year out.
They have lost billions on hedging.
Stupidity and incompetence.

And then there is Covid on top.

They will probably be a rights issue, but for what.
To burn cash hoping that things will one day return to normal?

Still holding, very cheap, all in the price.
Feel sorry for those who still hold from £12.80 days.

2bn credit loan facility and 2bn disposals potentially, perhaps a rights issue won't be necessary.

(Alliance News) - Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC has confirmed plans to shut its aerospace factory in Nottinghamshire and is looking to merge sites in Lancashire as part of a recently announced shake-up in the face of the pandemic.

The jet engine maker said it plans to close its site in Annesley by the end of 2022 in a move impacting around 120 staff, though the group is hoping most will transfer to its base in Derby.

But around 350 jobs are under threat as it revealed plans to stop making wide chord fan blades for new engines at its Bankfield site in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, by autumn 2023.

It will shift the work to its Singapore site.

It is also considering merging its Ghyll Brow base with the nearby Bankfield site as part of a group-wide restructure to save GBP1.3 billion in response to the coronavirus crisis.

The cuts are part of the mammoth 9,000 global job losses it announced in May to adapt to plunging demand after the aviation industry was hit hard by the pandemic.

Over a billion half year loss to be announced tomorrow apparently. No major surprise there but what effect on share price I wonder. Seems the cull has started today in anticipation.

Careful
If you have an MsC in engineering and design experience then not much of a problem, internally or outside so I am told.
