Rubicon Project: Header bidding weakness

Fascinating call from Rubi on the Q3 results. Worth reading the transcript (Seeking Alpha link below) to get a feel for how they see the market and their position in it.

They call out header bidding in general and desktop display in particular as having hurt them in 3Q and expected to carry on hurting them into 4Q. On desktop they appear to own up to having got complacent - establishing a "dominant" position, pushing up pricing and then being slow to react when cheaper competitors came in to the market.

I remember BigBear (on the ii board) gave some feedback from his AGM conversation with Richard Nunn on Header Bidding and its relevance to R1 - from which I took the message that it was not particularly central to R1 at the time.

So I'm hoping Rubi's problems are specific to them and not anything to concern R1, although Rubi appear to indicate a desire to become more competitive on price in order to win back desktop business which might have some impact. But certainly Rubi's description of softness in the advertising market doesn't seem to gel with R1's comments on exceeding management expectations in calendar 3Q.

Majority of newsflow at the moment talks about headwinds, doesn't it...no wonder the BS threads are quiet...
If there's opportunities or headwinds, it should be posted for other people's opinions...

1gw, i showed you my holding and have already stated my position here...My view hasn't changed so far...Are you their spokesman that you know what every other poster, who wishes me to stop posting, is thinking...Are you speaking for Barky and digi?When you next post some headwinds or concerns on Pace, would that make you a shorter...apart from the 1 meeting when i met you as well, I've never contacted Pace management either....and it was my largest holding...

There's no balance or discussion about headwinds or opportunities from the others...Nothing stopping anyone posting bull or bear posts... why not post why you think withdrawing from any market is good...it wasn't in their comprehensive document, was it...
