Ukraine claims it shot down 2 Russian command and control aircraft in a significant blow to Moscow

Ukraine’s military chief is claiming that the Ukrainian air force has shot down a Russian Beriev A-50 early warning and control plane and an IL-22 command center aircraft

The Ukrainian air force shot down a Russian Beriev A-50 early warning and control plane and an IL-22 command center aircraft in a significant blow for the Kremlin’s forces, Ukraine’s military chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyi claimed Monday.

The planes are key tools in helping orchestrate Russian battlefield movements. Shooting them down is a landmark feat for Ukraine in the almost two-year war, as fighting along the front line is largely bogged down in trench and artillery warfare.

Zaluzhnyi did not say how the aircraft were brought down, but Ukraine has received sophisticated modern air defense systems from its Western allies.

He also did not say where the interception occurred, though he attached a video to his social media post with an airplane tracker showing two targets disappearing above the Azov Sea, which lies between Ukraine and Russia, north of the Crimea Pensinsula and the Black Sea.

There was no immediate official comment from Moscow. Russian war bloggers said both planes had come under friendly fire, though they presented no evidence of that. They claimed the Il-22 was damaged but made a successful landing.

The A-50 is an early warning and control aircraft with a large radar capable of spotting air targets at distances of up to 650 kilometers (400 miles). It has a crew of 15. The Russian air force reportedly has been operating a fleet of nine such aircraft.

An A-50 was damaged by a February 2023 drone attack at an airfield in Belarus where it was parked, but Russian and Belarusian officials said it sustained only minor damage.

The Il-22 is an airborne command post, intended to oversee military operations and relay radio signal to troops on the front line. The Russian air force reportedly has a dozen such planes.

Ukraine said it had downed a £274million Russian spy plane in a “perfectly planned and executed operation” over the Sea of Azov.

Gen Valery Zaluzhny, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, said Kyiv’s forces had also shot down a Il-22 airborne command centre in the attack.

The aircraft were downed over the Sea of Azov on Sunday night, the RBC-Ukraine news agency cited a source in the armed forces as saying.

The Soviet-era A-50 uses radar to detect missiles and enemy aircraft, and can also be used as an airborne command centre.

Russia was reported to have only eight operational A-50s left in its air force prior to Sunday’s incident.

Details about the weapons used to allegedly shoot down the plane have not yet emerged.

A Russian A-50 based in Belarus was blown up in a partisan drone attack in February last year.

The Kremlin declined to comment on the incident at a briefing with reporters.

Another thing I've notice is how Kiev is defended by half the number of brigades it was even just 6 months ago, shows these troops have had to be pushed forward to defend the front lines and how short of men the Ukraine really is.

More and more, Ukrainians on the front lines are refusing orders to attack the Russians or advance towards the Russian lines, all they are now willing to do is to defend their positions.

The anti-genocide demonstrators are reported to be planning to ramp up their activities next week, with plans to disrupt financial centres in London and companies supplying arms to Israel.

Does this new energy on their part indicate that Gecko is now a convert, and is applying his organisational skills on their behalf?

Russian fighter jets are built to be able to take off from roads whereas even the old F16s the Ukrainians are being given require proper runways to operate from.

Over the past few days the Russians have destroyed the maintenance hangers/bases that the F16s were going to use in the Ukraine.

Even the Ukrainians are now acknowledging that 95% of all Russian missile/drone attacks are getting through compared to this time last year when they're reporting they were shooting down 90% of said attacks shows that the Ukrainian air defences have completely collapsed.

All the rules and sanctions against Russia are being made by the unelected globalists for their own economic gain.

By far the biggest losers in all this are the ordinary private citizens of Europe who are already financially paying a high price and this price will only get higher while the elites of Europe and the United States quietly accumulate more and more wealth as their favourite charity are their own pockets.

A tactical win for te USA, lunar, but a catastrophic strategic loss for the USA and the west.

Russia is on balance a loser (weakened economically though militarily it avoids the threat of Ukraine becoming a NATO salient, and at the pricea vassal state of China). Ukraine is a loser (huge casualties and infrastructure destruction, and dage to its economy, and in debt bondage to the USA for the forseeable future) the UK and Europe are losers ( high energy prices, yet further dependency on the USA which is now the dominant oil and gas supplier, and they have paid for the privilege - another £2.5Bn of our money being pledged only last week to be wasted on Ukraine). Worse than wasted in fact. Used to perpetuate slaughter and destruction, with no practical realisable, aim to achieve a lasting peace in the region.

China - short and long term winner, with secure chep energy and raw mateials suplies, Russia in its pocket, and enhancedinfluensce in the deloping economies, and a giant step toward ending the dollar monopoly in world trade as countries lean that dependency on the dollar means taking orders in relation to trade from Washington.

But the neocons and China lovers like masergt and Gecko will never understand any of that, and xxxy has his knickers in such a twist that he thinks only about Russia and has no though for what Chinese domminance will mean for the world. .

Russia already a vassal state of China

Li says jump and war criminal Putin asks how high

Putin selling Russia off to China on the cheap, as China rules the game

China only pays 50% of what Europe use to for gas and its costs Russia more to pipeline transit

So Europe now buys US gas instead

Win, Win, Win for the USA

Strikes were disproportionate and illegal, Russia tells UNDiplomats from Washington and London on Friday defended the military action to the United Nations after the West was accused of breaking international law and raising tensions in the Middle East that are already high following Israel's war with Hamas and its severe bombing of Gaza.On Friday night, Russia's ambassador to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, told the Security Council in New York that the West's strikes were a "blatant armed aggression against another country" and "an attack on the people [of Yemen] on the whole".Mr Nebenzya added that the operation was disproportionate and illegal, and had "single-handedly triggered a spillover of the conflict [in Gaza] to the entire region".... The Western media tells the Western public WHO is their enemy and why we have to attack them - another lie - the people of the West don't have a clue of what is really going on.

The Western media has taught the western public to hate Russia, priming the public that Russia needs to be attacked while all the time the people of the West are sinking more and more into poverty.

U.S., Partners Explore Seizing Russian Assets to Back Loans to Ukraine

The U.S. and its partners are exploring ways to use some of the $300 billion in frozen Russian central bank reserves to back loans to Ukraine, one of a series of ideas that Western officials are considering as they struggle to agree on a method to seize Russian funds without spooking international investors.

With Congress blocking funding for Ukraine, there is renewed impetus in Washington to find other sources of long-term financial support. After the outbreak of war, billions of dollars in Russian foreign currency reserves, gold and government bonds were frozen across the U.S., Europe and Japan to ensure they weren’t used to fund its illegal invasion.

White House Throws Support Behind Seizing Frozen Russian Assets

Funds frozen amid Ukraine war could be used for reconstruction
Biden seeks to rally Republican support, stay aligned with G-7

Bloomberg January 11, 2024 at 4:00 PM GMT

President Joe Biden’s administration is backing legislation that would let it seize some of $300 billion in frozen Russian assets to help pay for reconstruction of Ukraine, a shift as the White House seeks to rally support in Congress to further fund the war against Vladimir Putin’s forces.

The administration welcomes “in principle” a bill that would allow it to confiscate the funds
