Russia also underreports the loss of life in occupied territories. Kyiv's desire to liberate these territories is not simply about regaining Ukrainian land, but also about rescuing civilians living in hellish conditions. Any peace plan that does not include some measure of justice for these victims of war will leave their wounds unhealed. If there are no notable consequences, Russia will learn it can act aggressively, and illegally, and succeed. Reparations and international tribunals will be a crucial step to redress the damage Russia has inflicted upon Ukraine and may also help prevent a renewed war in the future. Finally – and critically for peace negotiations – Russia has repeatedly shown itself to be unreliable. The Minsk Agreements failed in part because Russia continually undermined them. A new ceasefire that would simply freeze the war can only repeat the mistakes of the Minsk Agreements. Hence why another key aspect of any peace agreement will be security guarantees for Ukraine. Russia is unlikely to accept Ukraine's accession to NATO or the European Union. But no neutral power exists that could provide security guarantees. .... Moscow Times

"Unfortunately there is nothing in the NATO charter which would allow them to expel Turkey, under any circumstances. Perhaps the only way to get rid of Turkey is to disband NATO and setup an identical alliance without them."

Yep, you're right. League of Nations was toothless to do what it set out to do giving rise to the UN which is equally incapable of preventing wars. NATO is no different. All shot themselves in the foot by insisting on unanimous votes.

It's impossible to sanction or discipline or call into line any delinquent member when that member itself has an absolute right to veto such action and scupper the whole lot. Guaranteed failure of purpose.

Rather than try to enforce an action knowing it will fail, NATO and the UN prefer to do nothing rather than be seen to have their 'authority' questioned. What authority???
Exactly!!!

Just for interest.....

US hits $34 trillion national debt - Data from the Treasury Department shows the nation’s total outstanding debt passed the milestone figure on Dec. 29, only months after it had reached $33 trillion.

Total U.S. debt has more than doubled 2013 and is up nearly $3 trillion since the government suspended the debt ceiling in June.

Under the FRA, the national debt ceiling will remain uncapped for 2024, kicking the fight over the nation’s debt load — and any long-term solutions — to 2025, past the upcoming presidential election. Until then, there are many pressing fiscal issues for Washington to figure out.

Norway's F16's have had 42 years of service, which means they came in to service in 1981 and last flew for the Norwegian air force in January 2022. Shortly after 12 of them returned to the United States to become pilot training aircraft.

Their airframes are now too knackered for frontline combat service.

The Dutch and Danish F16's were modernised in 2003 which means the equipment they currently have on board is still 20 years old.

Also the missions these aircraft will be able to fly are going to be limited by the limited training the Ukrainian pilots have received. It takes 5 years of training to get a F16 squadron into a high state of readiness, therefore their role will be limited to defending Kyiv and other large Ukrainian cities - in other words these aircraft are going to be used as mobile air defence for Ukrainian cities.

As a side note - Any aircraft that's been stored for more than a year, it's avionics becomes knackered and always going Unserviceable.

HL have matched the Moscow price in their portal. For no reason other than to charge higher management fees in their Sipp and ISA.I will lodge a formal complaint next week. They have no right to do this. One hand Russian is toxic other hand its fine to use Moscow as a pricing benchmark.

My point was contrary to Logliars propaganda, F-16s with NATO standard radar are much in demand by other countries such are Turkey

They are a top drawer Gen 4 fighter aircraft when fitted with the AMRAM-120 that the US is supplying, that have a range of 160 km. The 60 F16s Ukraine receives will be able to protect its front lines from KA-52, glide bombs attacks, etc

S-400 is junk AA compared to Patriot, Turkey should ask for a refund

But point still stands updated to NATO spec F16 with AESA radars are very much top line and in demand

er...s400 is an air defence system, not a fighter jet. Whoever wrote that needs to go back to kindergarten.

F-16 Vipers: Why Is Turkey ‘DesperateR17; For Fighting Falcons Despite Presence Of Sukhois, Rafales & Eurofighters In Market?

Russian warplanes were technically lacking

Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan has been holding Sweden’s NATO membership for ransom. He demands the US come through on its promise to sell F-16 Vipers to the transcontinental country at the juncture of Southeast Europe and West Asia.

The upgraded F-16s are not only a matter of convenience for Istanbul, it is also imperative financially and strategically. Since the US booted out of the F-35 development program for buying the Russian S-400 fighter jets, Turkey has been seeking to buy 40 F-16 warplanes along with 80 modernization kids for the existing F-16s in its inventory.

Turkey had ordered 100 F-35s to meet the need of its air force to maintain parity with its adversary Greece. The F-16 sale is President Erdogan’s way to recover the US$1.4 billion spent on developing the fifth-generation fighter jet. Turkey has been suggesting the US sale of F-16s to meet this debt.

In the present climate, Turkey’s proximity to Russia has been on the rise. Istanbul could opt for Russian fighter jets, but much is at stake.

In the past, Erdogan has hinted that Turkey could buy the Russian-made Su-35s and Su-57s, and the NATO community that has been in a fix after its S-400 purchase started debating the prudence of alienating Istanbul further.

However, the truth remains that the Russian warplanes were technically lacking and expensive to integrate with Turkey’s existing US-sourced military hardware. Also, the Turkish Defence Ministry found that adapting to the Russian system would be more tedious.

They're probably calculating that the planes won't see more than a few more flying hours - if the Russians don't destroy them on the ground they'll blow them out of the air. The Dutch should recycle them into ploughs or something.

7:55AMWe can work with Trump, insists KulebaDmytro Kuleba, Ukraine's foreign minister, has insisted the country can work with Donald Trump if he becomes the next American president."Trump is known for his, I would say, ultra-charismatic actions, his reputation and his phrases," he told Ukrainian outlet NV."But who sold the first American weapon to Ukraine? President Trump [sent us] Javelins. Who launched the programme of free delivery of the first naval vessels, the Island and Mark VI boats, to Ukraine? Trump."Who fought the Nord Stream 2 project and imposed sanctions on the well-known but already forgotten Fortuna ship that laid this pipeline? It was Trump."He added: "That's why Trump is a person you can work with; you just need to know how to work with him."There are a lot of "ifs", but Ukraine should not be afraid of anything, no elections and no current or future politicians."Mr Trump has said he would end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours if he becomes president, remarks which were taken to imply he would force Kyiv into a peace deal with Vladimir Putin....
