Loganaire, a very sound post. Te problem for the west (for which Ukraine will suffer) is that it went into this war with no realistic objectives save to weaken Russia. Not for the first time, the electorates around the world are now ahead of their governments. They see this dragging on to no advantage.

Moreover, the casualties Ukraine has taken this summer are a game changer. There is a manpower shortage in the Ukrainian army forces, and it also tsakes time to train troops to use sophisticated weapons, and even in battlefield tactics. The Ukrainian armed forces have been extremely impressive in the way they have learned to use a wide range of weapoins, from many sources, of which they had little or no practical experience but the casualties make that even more difficult in future. It is not correct to say that the west has denied the Ukrainians the weapons they need. Weapons without expertise are of very little value.

Remember too that initially the Ukrainians were being given weaponry and ammunition from reserves which was at or nearing its 'sell by' date, so the real cost to the west was comparatively small as the stuff would soon have needed to be de-commissioned anyway. Not so now. Newly made ammunition is now being supplied and expended, and expensive equipment like tanks are being supplied, and are being worn out or destroyed faster than the west manufactures them. There is neither the scope for further substantially to re-equip the Ukrainian forces with the most potent weapons without degrading western forces, nor the enthusiasm for the very high cost of doing so.

It seems to me what is happening is that the West is giving people just two choices, two options, either you're with the West and against Russia or with Russia which means being against the West.

Also there's - when the West is doing well, it's because of the West and the West is doing badly it's because of the other side, because of Russia - all this does it to create conflict between both sides - age old tactics of those who have the real power - divide and control.

Unions Vs Management, Conservative Vs Labour, Republicans Vs Democrats etc.

In the West, those with the real power have managed to get the people in the West to believe they have Freedoms in the West, they have Democracy in the West when in fact the peoples of the West have neither.

The West, via the media feeds and supports the narrative that the West is good and Russia is bad/Evil which takes over peoples minds and robs them of reason.

I know this post will get 4,6,8 Red Thumbs down due to other posters being afraid to face the truth about this and are being emotionally taxed by the truth which causes such hostility towards my posts.

Mobilisation bill currently going though the Ukrainian parliament:

1. Women will be mobilised on an equal bases to men.

2. Police and other services can no longer have deferment.

Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN - Ukraine has missed the opportunity to conclude a favourable peace agreement, just unconditional surrender and capitulation of the Ukraine.

SIR – Pessimism, fatigue, historical ignorance, and an immoral attempt to appease an aggressor for whom the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for the war crime of illegally transferring nearly 20,000 Ukrainian children: these are what threaten to bring about the end of the international liberal order. The 143 countries across all continents that voted for the UN General Assembly Resolution ES-11/4, which declared the annexation of parts of Ukraine by Russia illegal, clearly have more economic and military power at their disposal than Vladimir Putin. If Putin walks away from a negotiation with any part of Ukraine, instead of walking into a prison cell, it will be our responsibility as well – not just that of governments, but people in liberal democracies, people who grew tired of helping Ukrainians willing to die for the freedom and self-determination we take for granted. The material circumstances have not changed. Russia still has a clumsy army and an even clumsier economy. President Volodymyr Zelensky's bravery remains unsurpassed, and the Ukrainian people's heroism unmatched. We, the rest of the liberal world (from politicians to ordinary citizens), were the ones who changed – blaming the Ukrainian counter-offensive's slow progress on Ukrainians, instead of on our governments' inability to supply them with adequate weapons to liberate their homeland, and forgetting the unity of purpose that made even France and Germany's executives change their official positions at the start of this genocidal war of aggression.João Freitas... Hostages were waving a white flag so Netanyahu has stated and, of course, unarmed. That made them a prime target for the IDF. With over 10,000 killed already, every IDF soldier is keen to increase his score and improve his position in the ratings and promotion prospects without the risk of getting shot by armed people,

Anyway, going around waving white flags, raising your arms, and not carrying weapons made the brave IDF fear for their lives - an obvious trap. What choice did the IDF have but to gun them down?

The only 2 BBCs that are worth listening to are BBC World Service and BBC Russian Service when it comes to the conflict in the Ukraine.

BBC Russian Service - 24 February 2022 to end May 2023 - 47,000 Russians killed fighting in the Ukraine of which 2,914 were officers, with the average age of the officers between 24 and 26 years.

24 February to 14 December 2023 - 337 Russian officers of Lieutenant Colonel or higher rank have been killed.

In last 2 weeks - 1,163 Russians killed = 83 per day during this time.

Ukraine defense ministry - 24 February to 14 December 2023 - 344,000 Russians killed.

From 24 February to 14 December 2023 death notifications to Russian families of Russian soldiers killed in the Ukraine stands at 39,424.

People forget that this has elements of a civil war. Civil wars are pretty nasty. It would be naive to think that Ukrainian forces and anti-Russians have not seized opportunities to persecute and kill Russian speakers and sympathisers, and as we have seen in the middle east, each side will believe that it was 'merely' retaliating for worse /earlier done by the other. Partitian will be in the best interests of all parties.

There are no saints. Compare the Israelis and Palestinians. Some here contend that the Israelis abide strictly by the laws of war, yet we see videos posted by grinning IDF soldiers showing them wantonly destroying stock is shops and domestic items, including food, in dwellings in in Gaza, and their 'care' to avoid harming the innocent is such that theei ground forces have shot dead a group of Israeli hostages in Gaza! If they take such 'care' to avoid harm to Israeli hostages (certainly unarmed and posing no threat to them), how much care do they take to avoid killing and wounding innocent Palestinian women, children and the sick and elderly, let alone fit but unarmed males? Quite obviously it is a turkey shoot in Gaza, and nothing and no one is off limits in the quest to kill as many and cause as much destruction as possible there. Is it realistic to expect that after 2 years of brutal and costly fighting the less well trained Ukrainian troops are more saintly than the regular IDF troops?

It is unhelpful and naive merely to pick a side and assume they all have halos and the other side all have horns and tails. Look at the nature of the conflict, the gulf which separates the aspirations of the combatants, and consider how a lasting (even if imoperfect) peace can practically be achieved.

Same cars - just a different brand name....

The St. Petersburg plant Hyundai will resume the production of cars in 2024. AGR, which is close to the Avilon dealership holding and owns the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga, will close the deal of the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus plant purchase in St. Petersburg the next year.

Production at the facility is expected to resume in the coming months, with Hyundai Solaris and Creta cars coming off the assembly line, as well as Kia Rio cars, which were produced there before. They will be sold under the Chinese brand GAC, which has become a new partner of AGR.

Even though 80% of the Ukrainian population speak Russian as their first language, the goal of the current Ukrainian government - "The Russian language must completely disappear from our territory."

Ukrainian government policy - If the Ukraine gets back all the areas currently held by Russia, anybody who speaks Russian or adheres to Russian culture in these areas will be 'Restricted' until they no longer do so.

Several years ago the Ukrainian government passed a law that a person can be fined for speaking Russian in the public sphere which also includes in restaurants and shops and a person can be refused a service if they ask for the said service in Russian.

This is like saying in the UK a person being legally refused a service in Manchester and were fined because they didn't ask for it in Welsh and didn't know anything about Rugby.

Ukraine war: How TikTok fakes pushed Russian lies to millions

By Olga Robinson, Adam Robinson & Shayan Sardarizadeh
BBC Verify

A Russian propaganda campaign involving thousands of fake accounts on TikTok spreading disinformation about the war in Ukraine has been uncovered by the BBC.

Users in several European countries have been subjected to false claims that senior Ukrainian officials and their relatives bought luxury cars or villas abroad after Russia's invasion in February 2022.

The fake TikTok videos played a part in the dismissal last September of Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, according to his daughter Anastasiya Shteinhauz.

The BBC has uncovered nearly 800 fake accounts since July. TikTok says it was already investigating the issue and says it has taken down more than 12,000 fake accounts originating in Russia.

mas - Well done - you surpass yourself in ignorance and stupidity - quoting a Ukrainian published article - which naturally you automatically assume tells the truth.

Whereas much of what I post comes from people I personally know in Russia, Belarus as well as the Ukraine. As a by the way, all of us from all the countries get on very well with each other.

Seem to forget in the article that some 40,000 of the troops that were fighting in the Ukraine are now either in Belarus or have been redeployed outside of the Ukraine. Then a further 100,000 troops were on a 6 month contract with most of those leaving after the 6 months is why Russia had to carry out a second mobilisation to replace these.

At least 50% of those first mobilised never even went into the Ukraine, were held back to help with logistics etc.
