03/1/2024 10:42 | If I had been the UK, I would have done my utmost to encourage Ireland, Denmark, Sweden and Finland and possibly Estonia as well to pull out of the EU and to join up with Norway, Iceland, Lichtenstein and Switzerland to form a very strong 9/10 country EFTA as a counter balance to the EU. Then I would of asked Russia to join EFTA thereby having an 11 country Free Trade area covering from the Atlantic ocean in the West to the Far East Pacific ocean in the East - by god...this would have been a real economic powerhouse to take on all comers. | loganair
03/1/2024 09:49 | I've never understood why any country ever wants to join the Euro...... Per capita in the 14 original EU Euro states is lower today then it was when the Euro was launched. French GDP per capita is now lower than the 48th poorest state in the U.S while Germany's doesn't fair much better as are only as prosperous as the 38th US state Oklahoma and with the United States blowing up the Nord Stream pipeline and pushing Europe to sanction Russia the United States as per their want are keeping the Euro zone in long-term chronic stagnation. NATO is basically an arm of the United States State department and until Europe tell the U.S. to get out and not come back, Europe will remain in stagnation, slowly going backward towards the dark ages, a continent going nowhere and is of no threat to the hegemony of the United States. | loganair
02/1/2024 16:19 | Well, we can't have Hamas outdoing Israel in the brutality and murder stakes, can we Gecko? You must be very pleased that Israel is already about 40:1 up on the brutality and murder score, and with a stack of destruction of hospitals, schools and homes as a 'Brucie bonus'. Good game? | 1knocker
02/1/2024 13:09 | No wonder the Israeli troops are tired. Divide 20,000 dead and probably 50 to 60,000 wounded by the number of the Israeli troops engaged and you can understand the strain on their right index fingers. I wish I believed that they would be not only tired, but also sickened by the killing spree upon which they have been engaged. Sadly, I very much doubt it. They will be comparing and boasting about their points scores - 2 for a death, 1 for a wounding, women and children to count double, and 1 deducted for an Israeli hostage killed - and looking forward to a resumption of the turkey shoot. | 1knocker

01/1/2024 21:16 | logliar - #21289. "The West didn't take any German state assets during or after the second world war, hasn't even taken Venezuelans, just refusing to give them back." What on earth are you talking about - or smoking? How can anyone refuse to give something back if they haven't taken it in the first place? Idiot. Speaking of trust, everyone knows that Russia - even pre Putin - always reneges on any treaty. They sign them knowing they have no intention of sticking to them for a moment longer than it suits them. Treaties are just a vehicle to gain concessions from the other side. A total waste of time and ink. When's Putin handing back the Western assets of Carlsberg or Danone? The rest of your post, as usual, makes no sense. Neither does #21294. Where do you get these wild distortions of history from? WTF is going through your head? Switch your system off and go lie down somewhere dark. | masergt

01/1/2024 12:42 | In Putin's New Year message to Russia it was interesting how many times he mentioned the word "family", declaring 2024 as the year of the family in Russia and that "family is the guarantee of our future in Russia," unlike in the West were they're trying to smash and destroy the family and traditional family values. | loganair
01/1/2024 10:22 | The West didn't take any German state assets during or after the second world war, hasn't even taken Venezuelans, just refusing to give them back. If the West does take Russian State assets means no country can every again trust the West with their assets and will therefore start bringing them home for safe keeping or sell them to maybe buy gold or any asset that doesn't have a third party counter risk. | loganair
01/1/2024 10:01 | masergt (21285): The law in question is British law, as applied to the ownership of assets in the custody of British institutions, and extended to international agreements to which the UK is signatory. But it covers pretty well also the advanced democracies of the Western world and its allies. Putin's arguments for territorial expansion match those of his German forerunner 85 years ago. Neither you nor I need any persuasion as to their invalidity. | meanreverter
