you couldnt beat the AA routemap service in the 70's imo, just tell 'em youre off to Garda & a detailed 50 pager ringflip book would magically be delivered giving door to door directions, point to point distances & recommended stop offs, you just had to keep it resting on the steering wheel!

#7736 - having replaced the driver's side myself (after consulting YouTube), the actual glass is stuck on to a backing sticky plate (which itself is snapped into the wing mirror housing - with an electrical connector for the heating element) - the glass simply peeled away from the sticky backing (and fell off on the motorway).

Oh aye, I forgot that I pay an annual sub to use the digital connect functions which I guess includes updates as they are released.

Alternatively use Apple CarPlay via Bluetooth - the Apple Maps are usually pretty current.

No, mikey.

Re the satnav, mine seems to keep updating itself without a by-your-leave (sometimes a bit awkward when trying to use it between updates, but working ok at the mo.) I suspect it's all part of the initial 3-yr warranty period and no doubt everything will switch itself off in a few months when that runs out unless I pay some exorbitant warranty extension.

Edit: Sorry, monte, a bit behind your #7729

Quite possibly, i'll have a look at the menu later on.

TBF it is only the second time i've used it, I dont really like SatNavs as a rule, but the place we headed to was completely in the sticks.

by the way el / jeffian - have you had the wing mirror glass falling out at all on your S5s? The driver's side glass fell out a couple of years ago (became unstuck from the mounting bracket) and recently the passenger side did the same! WAFLOS.

Morning all.

Are you sure that the car doesn’t have a function to update directly via an embedded sim? The porker (fancy vw) does this automatically but there is also a toggle on the menu that allows you to manually initiate updates.

#7722,

Quite. I see you remember the pea story. It was at La Ferme de Mon Pere at Megeve. It's closed now but if monte had been there, he'd realise what a snip the River cafe is!

Having ventured off grid at the weekend hunting for some Terracotta pots that Mrs E wanted, I noted the bird on the SatNav went eerily silent for some minutes as we drove through a relatively new series of roads.

I can see that it is possible to download map updates from VW directly via a 6.8gb files, but how tf will that update the maps in the car?

Duly noted jeffian.

Certainly none of that deconstructed and reconstructed pea nonsense, I hope.

I am reminded once again of Mrs E getting the hump at me refusing to pay €155 a head for the tasting menu at the hotel after seeing "More than a carrot" as one of the 'moments'.

#7699,
It's one of the few places IMO where it's actually worth going for the 'tasting menu'. Just(!) 6 courses which are modest helpings of most of the stuff on the a la carte menu (surely what a 'tasting menu should be?!) and works out not much more, if at all, than the price of 3 full courses chosen separately a la carte. We've only been twice so far but pretty taken with it.
