I quite likes the look of that there Silver Birch menu. It would be a fitting tribute to visit the Silver Birch in the Silver Giraffe imco.

A few of those places don’t look totally insane (for lahhhnndan) unlike that river cafe bill - unless majority of that was on grog as gra’ mentioned

#7668,

The go-to for top nosh for many years has been La Trompette ( ). River Cafe you now know about. A recent find of a 'hidden gem' is The Silver Birch ( ) which is in a rather unprepossessing parade of shops and nobody really noticed it until a couple of months ago when it suddenly got a rave review in the Times ( ). The poor things opened just as Covid/lockdown struck and has soldiered on since then without anyone noticing. We've also been using Arlington (formerly Le Caprice but now back with original owners after a bust-up) since it re-opened recently. gra would have a fit about prices, of course, but there are plenty of good gastropubs and neighbourhood restaurants, so we do ok (not that anywhere is "cheap" these days).

I, too, have had a haircut. Rather tediously, that means having a shower in the middle of the afternoon. The itching is unbearable.

You get what you pay for, gra.

#7665,
Speaking of which, has anyone followed up on that ambulance that self-combusted? That also began smoking then burned with unusual fury. Hmmm!

Epicenter 2/10

Managed to get through enough of it to see some of the quake, this featured lots of stock footage, plus several of the same scenes of destruction being shown several times over and over again. Turned off at this point.

Good Morning Patriots.

Roadhouse reboot (Prime) - better than I thought it would be (being a big fan of teh original), but marred with CGI fight sequences that looked like something out of a Marvel movie at times. Gyllenhall’s characterisation of Dalton was quite good, 6/10

#7657,
Well we do eat there, but it's definitely 'special occasion' stuff. We tend to throw big Birthday Bashes on decades/half decades (which also coincide with Big Anniversaries) and after the last one, a group of friends decided to reciprocate as a 'thank you' and take us to the said eatery (dinner too, not lunch which tends to be even pricier). They were all pretty well-heeled but clearly one of them was not au fait with the reputation of the place. When the bill came, I politely looked at my shoes but still caught his face as he saw the total, the saucer-sized eyes and clearly muttered "You must be joking!". Took a bit of the gloss of it for me!
