Aerial Pictures of London by Night, Jason Hawkes, an aerial photographer whose work we had already shared on New York, presents his new nocturnal series. Settled in London, he flies over the city by helicopter and makes great shots. Taking a little height, the photographer makes us discover the lights of the British capital from another angle.

Headline: ARRIS CTO: “Wi-Fi is going software”

Link:

Summary:
- Customers will expect WiFi speeds to match ISP's internet speeds
- If it doesn't the ISP will get the blame
- WiFi routers shouldn't be ugly otherwise they get put where they can't be seen, not where it's best for signal propagation
- Get the WiFi base unit right (include latest and greatest tech) before people need to add extenders
- Customers will expect WiFi service in every corner of the home and to devices that move around
- Cloud based management of home WiFi will help achieve this goal (ubiquitous WiFi)
- WiFi over 60GHz is coming (currently 2.4GHz and 5GHz are used)

Subtext: Arris will supply these solutions

International Bamboo Architecture Biennale

The first International Bamboo Architecture Biennale took place in the small village of Baoxi, China in 2016. These images, shot by photographer Julien Lanoo, give a sense at how the bamboo buildings blend into the community as permanent structures. “For centuries, bamboo was used in these rural communities in many different ways,” Lanoo tells My Modern Met via email. “A construction material with many qualities, it has or is disappearing quickly on the Chinese mainland in favor of concrete. The fast and vast expansion of new Chinese cities overruled many traditional ways of building.”

Santalaia in Bogotá, Largest Vertical Garden in the World

Santalaia by Paisajismo Urbano and Groncol designed the largest vertical garden in the world. Located in Bogotá, Colombia, the Santalaia building is completely covered with a lush layer of 85,000 plants that span 3,100 square meters (33,368 square feet). A vertical garden of this size can produce enough oxygen for more than 3,100 people every year, process 1,708 pounds of heavy metals, filter more than 2,000 tons of harmful gases and catch more than 881 pounds of dust.

Natural Rock Formation Looks Like an Elephant Drinking from the Ocean

Sometimes, the natural landscape can bear an uncanny resemblance to creatures in the wild—one of these curious places is off the coast of Iceland. On the island of Heimaey, there is a rock formation that, from certain angles, looks like a massive elephant taking a drink out of the Atlantic ocean.

Two key elements contribute to this playful illusion. Firstly, the “wrinkles” in the cliff mimic an elephant’s leathery skin—this particular texture was formed by basalt rock, a type of material that results from the rapid cooling of thick lava. Coupled with indentations that look like an eye and a giant, floppy ear, it’s almost as if this is an elephant that’s hiding in plain sight

Two creepy life-size dolls take to the Tube to launch Derren Brown’s psychological theme park ride

It’s really not what you need on the morning commute. The Northern Line’s scary enough tbh.

Two life size Victorian dolls were spotted taking the Tube and wandering around town freaking out commuters this morning.

No, it’s not the first sign of the apocalypse. The seriously creepy dolls, who were spotted playing with a toy train set at Hamleys and pushing an empty antique pram along Tube platforms, were actually promoting Derren Brown’s new psychological theme park ride, coming to Thorpe Park next year.

From Andy's link:

BTIG analyst Walter Piecyk, who on Thursday initiated coverage on Arris with a buy rating, said the same forces weakening the outlook for the company’s set-top box business will benefit its network segment.

I read elsewhere (Market Beat) that his target is $38.
