I bought a holiday using the 'on the beach' platform and within a week the company selling the accommodation part of the holiday had gone bust. I don't think I'll lose out due to the ATOL protection but it's put me off using the site again. The company knew it was going bust as they tried to squeeze a bigger deposit out of me but I declined.

Also sold half of mine for a good profit ,up almost 65% on the rest. Also bought into Dart Group which is highly ranked on Stockopedia and a strong buy on Fat Prophets who also recommended OTB.

Reaching out for 600p. And any bid would need to be well north of that.

Langton Capital morning e-mail:
On The Beach, the online travel agent, has been linked with a potential takeover bid although no statement was been made to the stock exchange on Monday morning. Rumours speculate of a potential bid from a US travel giant such as Expedia.

Sold a third of my holding 490p. Hopefully I will live to regret it as the remainder powers ahead over 2018. Lots of stocks pushing higher but this certainly looks well set for further significant growth. Good luck everyone.

One of Peel Hunt's growth picks for 2018:

The holiday website has a structural cost advantage relative to its main tour operator competitors, which is helping it to increase market share and further reduce holiday costs. It has continued to invest and should benefit from moving into new markets.

The firms are alleged to have worked together to pick up stock on the cheap. If the FCA proves its case, they could be fined up to 10% of their worldwide revenue.
They could also face damages claims, although victims could struggle to quantify their losses. Shares in On the Beach fell in the months after listing, but have more than doubled in price since. River and Mercantile, Hargreave Hale and Newton bought sizeable stakes in On the Beach at the listing. The company said it knew “absolutely nothing about this matter” until contacted by The Sunday Times.

Let's hope the FCA do the right thing and punish these funds if the allegations are proven. Future looks good for this disrupter imo.

Travel agent On the Beach at the centre of share-rigging probe

The £240m float of the online holiday company On the Beach is at the heart of the City watchdog’s probe into alleged rigging of share prices by a clutch of Britain’s best-known fund managers.

So glad I didn't sell when some of the directors did - they must surely be kicking themselves! There must be more growth potential here - with the weather in this country (and in other N European countries in which OTB operates) people will always want their beach holidays and will be prepared to put up with a certain amount of currency fluctuation. Further expansion must be on the cards and if OTB increases its market share, as it surely must, then it could become a bid target?
