I'm guessing today's 5% drop in share price was in part due to Ryanair cancelling 600 flights next week over cabin crew strike? As you state though the increase in staycationing must have a big impact. Both temporary set backs surely.

Interest in travel picked up immediately after England was knocked out of the World Cup, latest data confirms.

Travel searches declined by 19% year-on-year during the tournament in Russia until England lost 2-1 to Croatia in extra-time in the semi-final on July 11.

This triggered a 15% surge in travel searches, according to travel research firm Sojern.

General manager, Europe, Matthieu Betton, said: “Once England was knocked out of the world cup we saw UK travellers overcoming World Cup blues by turning their attention to their next holiday with travel searches increasing by a whopping 15% day-over-day on Thursday, 12th July.

“After all major events, including sporting events, we see an immediate impact on travel. This, more often than not, levels out in time.

“The combination of the heatwave in the UK and the distraction of the World Cup no doubt impacted the level of travel searches and we are now seeing a surge in travel intent from UK travellers.”

Meanwhile, Russia is expected to attract more British tourists due to the World Cup.

OTA CheapOair.co.uk saw a major uplift in its flight searches to the host nation as figures came in 232% higher than the average weekly search volume during the first week of the tournament.

This momentum continued the following week, as the average weekly number of searches made peaked at 227%.

Similarly throughout the pre-event build-up the flight search windows between 11-17 March and 18-24 March 2018 saw a significant increase, as potential bookers were searching 182% and 160% higher than the average weekly search volume during the build up to the World Cup.

“This goes to show that the football fixtures were not only a cause for celebration amongst football fans but also for the Russian economy, as businesses in its numerous host cities for the games have benefited from an influx in British tourists,” the company said.

Shadex, fwiw I think it's related to potential reduced summer holiday bookings (increased staycationing due to the hot summer) and some hard Brexit concerns.

I added at 480. I note thomas cook is also down 5%. Assuming it's related to the trade war.

The price has been battered for weeks, no one knows why. It’s up around 10% from the recent low. HSBC were after the shares recently, maybe they’re still building? Maybe another insti is building. Maybe someone’s building a stake for a takeover. Maybe people have just lost enough, haven’t seen it bounce and are bailing. Maybe, maybe, maybe. Until the company says something why speculate? Either you think the company is cheap and has good growth or you don’t and should sell or, if you like the dark arts, the charts are/good bad.
There’s no news, what else are you expecting someone to tell you?

Well that’s their aim, imo they’re working out what works before targeting the larger markets

I would like to see them target a larger international market, the combined population of Sweden, Norway, and Denmark is c. 21m, which is only just over a quarter of Germany (c. 83m).

Monkey you may be right, then again you have assumed a lot (customer base, etc).As for you being an idiot, let's leave that debate on the other board.DD

I took a bit of profit at 604p which now looks like a good move but was probably more luck than judgement. I agree with you re the share price - they are well valued and no doubt need to show some results before further upgrading. I'm in for the longer term though.

I think people have been accumulating. HSBC have upped their holding, thought we might see some other holding RNS. I see 550 as a reasonable target, would like to get back towards £6 but I think it will need to show success in Scandinavia and a German roll out to kick things on again.
As Dave will tell you from our dealings on a different board, I’m an idiot so don’t take what I say as having much merit :)

Anyway, a nice share price rise today - good to see it bouncing back after recent falls, which I've found hard to understand.

The sort of person who shops at “On The Beach” isn’t, how should we say tactfully, the most cultured or affluent.
In crude terms, they knock out cheap weeks in the sun to the working classes, a few hundred quid for a week away.
I imagine the flight to Tahiti costs more per person than the average customer spends on their whole family holiday, if not it can’t be far off.

Why would they want to be distracted by, and go through all the expense of marketing, a niche 4 week window in a country they know nothing about? To generate extra income on an event that only occurs once every four years but provides significant additional income streams for numerous businesses and numerous sectors - no marketing required, just add Russian city's to their portfolio to match where the games are played. Can accept your point but dont agree, also why nothing for Tahiti? think they have some "beaches" there for the "beach" football World Cup!.DD

Because they do cheap beach holidays and they’re good at it. They’ve got a proven business model they’re concentrating on rolling out to the rest of Northern Europe.
Why would they want to be distracted by, and go through all the expense of marketing, a niche 4 week window in a country they know nothing about? The juice wouldn’t be worth the squeeze.
