Because they do cheap beach holidays and they’re good at it. They’ve got a proven business model they’re concentrating on rolling out to the rest of Northern Europe.
Why would they want to be distracted by, and go through all the expense of marketing, a niche 4 week window in a country they know nothing about? The juice wouldn’t be worth the squeeze.

While it's quiet and the LSE engineers are trying to find a penny to put in the meter, a question: why aren't OTB doing any World Cup deals?, yes I know they do beach holidays but so what!. Also, did you know that this years FIFA beach football World Cup is being held in Tahiti in September- so why aren't OTB doing any deals for that? - searched their website and can't see anything.DDps still waiting for 260

Something smells, adding in the 450's!

From yesterday:

On the Beach share slide is buying opportunity for Berenberg

(Sharecast News) - The fall in On the Beach's shares is a "compelling" buying opportunity for a structural growth stock, Berenberg analysts said as they reiterated their 'buy' rating on the shares.

The online beach holiday company's first half results on 10 May were slightly weaker than expected but the shares decline of more than 25% is overdone, Berenberg said. Management said disappointing growth was caused by higher airline seat prices after the collapse of low-cost carrier Monarch. Air fares have gone back to normal and this should help On the Beach.

The company, which lets customers put together their own package holiday from thousands of hotels and flights, is taking market share and is investing in marketing without expenses increasing as a percentage of sales, the analysts said.

More than 40% of the UK holiday market is yet to shift online and with cash in the bank On the Beach can grow without much more capital. Investors also have a free option on the company expanding overseas through its nascent international operation.

"OTB remains a high-margin, high-return structural growth story, and the pull-back creates a compelling buying opportunity," the analysts said.

The analysts kept their 'buy' rating for On the Beach and left their price target unchanged at 600p a share. At the time of publication the share price was 473p.

To be clear - I asked because there's a "holdings in company" RNS that mentions HSBC and that the 5% threshold was crossed on the 23rd. I'm not accusing anyone of illegal activity, forcing the price down to trigger stop losses through shorting etc is a valid methodology as far as I am aware. But it's super frustrating that someone has managed to stake build, ie there's a high demand for shares, and the price has fallen by over 20%.

Read about this some time ago and was thinking maybe some developments influencing price... quick mention of it in this article from late 2017.

where have you heard about this HSBC story?

All quite fishy to me. OTB group also subject to a probe on price fixing? and potential price pressure due to take-over interest?

I’m not so hot at this shares malarkey so would appreciate help. Is my reading of this correct...

So HSBC have decided they want a 5% stake in the company so instead of paying the £6 a share, they’ve got someone(s) to force the price down to trigger millions of stop losses...

Yep starting to look reasonable, would always like them to go a little lower (460 would do me, sorry holders, no offence!).That said is the bigger fall due to weakening pound? From a TA it looks oversold now but will see what happens tomorrow.DD

Adding a few here. Forecast EPS are 2018 21.62p and 2019 26.71p, at the current share price the PE drops to 22 in September this year and 17.8 next year.

Like the look of these but a few niggles, the main one being it's still a smidge too expensive IMO, others are the recent decline in Sterling and are we at the peak of the economic cycle.DD

I think you credit the market with more logic than I do. The sale of over a million shares today may have been in response to EZJ's announcement but it could also just be an insti rebalancing.

I wonder, is the share price drop linked to EZJ's announcement on 15 May that they would be 'investing in holidays' ie more than just flights?
