03/2/2023 18:03 | Down about 0.2% today which is a touch disappointing given the rise in the FTSE - but overall another decent week YTD 8.49% | dr biotech

03/2/2023 17:33 | On the day -0.54% mainly due to NANO On the week +1.44% YTD +5.54% | malcolm caton
03/2/2023 17:05 | +0.5%. YTD +7.2%. That's a bigger rise than all last year and a new high again. Some sunny spells today where it felt very warm. 12.9C after 9.2C. I'm tweaking down the heating times and daily gas use is pushing on to nearly halved from December. The grass is growing, though it has more moss than ever, as is the same with neighbours. I might have to tidy it soon. Have a good weekend. | aleman

England v Scotland in the rugby should be good. Hike on sunday well wrapped up again by the look of the forecast. Good weekend everyone. | philanderer
03/2/2023 17:03 | Despite a not so good day today, still managed +1.45% on the week to take me to +6.13% and a new all time week high in overall value, but just a whisker short in true terms if you take off the monthly contributions since that figure last January. Jobs in the garden tomorrow, tennis Sunday morning then we're planning to get out into The Solent with the boat on Sunday afternoon. Enjoy your weekends MrP | mrphil
03/2/2023 16:10 | £ now at a two year low against the Euro, are they really doing that much better than us? Doesn't seem like it when talking to our German and Italian business partners! | mrphil
03/2/2023 15:24 | MrsP has a £100 ERNIE win for February! Drinks are on her! | mrphil
03/2/2023 14:39 | Zacks S&P500 Q1/2023 aggregate earnings consensus dropped even more quickly last week. This is not good. Looking at 2022 Q4 as a whole, aggregate S&P 500 earnings are currently expected to be down -6.4% on +4.7% higher revenues. Excluding the Energy sector’s strong contribution, Q4 earnings for the rest of the index are expected to be down -10.4% on +3.7% higher revenues. For 2023 Q1, S&P 500 earnings are currently expected to be down -7.2% on +2.5% higher revenues. This is down from -4% on January 6th and -2.9% in mid-December 2022. FY2023 is now -0.2% from +0.9% last week. | aleman
03/2/2023 14:26 | Non-farm payrolls seem bizarre after all the redundancy announcements last month. NFP does have a history of occasionally large revisions. Why was it not associated with higher pay if demand was so strong? UK pay is +6.0%. US is only +4.4% annual and +0.3% on the month.. Yet the UK is supposed to be (nearly) in recession. There were a couple of anomalies: Employment in state government education increased by 35,000, reflecting the return of university workers after a strike. Effective with data for January 2023, updated population estimates were incorporated into the household survey. Population estimates for the household survey are developed by the U.S. Census Bureau. Each year, the Census Bureau updates the estimates to reflect new information and assumptions about the growth of the population since the previous decennial census. The change in population reflected in the new estimates results from adjustments for net international migration, updated vital statistics, and improvements in estimation methodology. In accordance with usual practice, BLS will not revise the official household survey estimates for December 2022 and earlier months. The adjustments increased the estimated size of the civilian noninstitutional population in December by 954,000, the civilian labor force by 871,000, employment by 810,000, and unemployment by 60,000. The number of persons not in the labor force increased by 82,000. So did non-farm payrolls actually fall if you allow for this adjustment? Would it have been -293k without it? | aleman

03/2/2023 11:04 | 4/7 for me. We're all average this morning. My smaller co trusts that had the party yesterday are having the hangover this morning. Down about 1%. Ernie will probably knock on the door asking for his money back too. Should still be comfortably up on the week. FWIW I'm about 9% off my all time high, which was August 21. Feels like a long way to go | dr biotech
03/2/2023 10:45 | The sun is trying to break through and I see we are being forecast a few sunny days from Sunday but a return to the cold weather. Looking at my H-L account, looks like around half of the weeks gains have gone this morning. | mrphil
03/2/2023 10:40 | Morning everyone. Quiz of the week = 4/7 Sunny, blue skies, portfolio struggling so far. | philanderer
03/2/2023 10:10 | Morning Just 3/7, always seem to get the first few correct then all the rest wrong. Still looking at breakeven this week with no big gains. Just XLM pushing the envelope. My 4th position under threat I expect. Although mild no sign of sunny periods to warm the house. | blueliner
03/2/2023 10:04 | That's a decent rate wllm. I've been hanging on to see what fixed rates appear as I'd be happy to put some of the business savings on a fixed term. Have to be a bit careful as you have to be able to show you need the cash reserves for general cashflow so if you have too much and stick it on a long fixed term that would be difficult to prove! Maybe I can feel a big dividend coming on! | mrphil
03/2/2023 09:45 | I recently put some savings into a savings account with Smartsave Bank paying 4.26% interest. It is locked up for a year though. Still, in my current account or access saver with Bank of Scotland, they are still paying 0.1% which is pretty shameful. wllm :) | wllmherk
03/2/2023 09:22 | Blimey, even LLOY are offering us 3% interest on a 1yr fixed rate and 2.05% on 95 day notice. Might even let them have some of our savings at this rate! | mrphil
03/2/2023 08:49 | If they dont will look at CGT position in March. | malcolm caton
03/2/2023 08:47 | Just got £25 from ERNIE so February wasn't barren after all. £100 in January. | mrphil |
