There's a great set of graphs here covering the diesel price in recent years. The retail margin was only 4-6p for several years gone by but has been been more typically 15p since the July peak and even over 20p at times in recent weeks as retail prices have been slow to follow wholesale ones down. It looks like price gouging. What's more annoying than the actual excesses being paid is that it's pushed up inflation and interest rates higher than needed so everyone suffers.

Not just USA, then?

Shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk has warned this morning that its profits will tumble this year as the transportation sector cools.

Maersk predicted that lower container volumes and freight rates would drive a roughly four-fold plunge in profits this year, after reporting record earnings for 2022.

Morning everyone.

That was a cold one. Sun doing it's best now.

Yet another poor update from PZC.

New 14-month lows for UK and EU gas as forecasts suggest the central and eastern European cold snap is starting to moderate. Given consumption is still down 15-20% thanks to (disproportionately?) high domestic pricing, the winter drawdown season could end early this year, leaving record high reserves.

Chipotle Bar and Grill's earnings miss pretty much summed up the ongoing weak US numbers. Corporate numbers are likely to keep deteriorating with the higher interest rates and ongoing job losses. eBay and Zoom were amongst at least three to announce layoffs yesterday. I'm wondering when all this endless bad news is going to sink in with markets. (Just USA or all?).

Good morning. A placing from SOS to fund expansion is likely to see me down today. It's nothing compared to the worsening news coming out of Turkey, though, which makes you count your blessings.

I let my BP. go last year around 470p I believe! Had got ~40% profit on them mind having averaged down from 550p during pandemic! My timing has never been great.

I've been busy for most of the day, but I left a sell order in on half of my BP which seems to have been filled just before the close at just over @515 - watch it carry on up tomorrow.

I finished down @£91.

Barring anything untoward, we're still hoping to get to Kew tomorrow.

I'm up +0.272% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.357%).

Best rises: BP. +7.95%, WDS +3.13% and BT.A +2.61%.

Worst falls: PSON -2.78%, PHP -2.36% and DGE -1.57%.

BP's results certainly caused a reaction. SHEL was just behind the top 3.

A nice pub lunch today. The mist cleared while we were in the pub. I expect that it will reform soon.

Thanks for all the comments. I am amazed at how many people tell me that I don't look 89. I suspect it is taking a regular morning walk, drinking decent beer from time to time, and eating sensibly.

I topped up my holding of Aviva this morning, then the price fell away. A typical reaction.

Haircut tomorrow.

Awful scenes from Turkey & Syria, should we have been more prepared?

Portfolio -0.32% saved by BP from a much worse number...AAL and NICL the other main risers. Fallers PZC, DGE, VSVS, WIX and BAG.

Cold and sunny this afternoon after the mist was burned off 6C.

Tragic coverage coming out of Turkey and Syria.

Not a mixed bag for a change. In fact, A similar pattern seen in them all. Up a bit or not early on and then all fell away. -0.6%.

A mostly bright day but only a little sun so felt chillier. 9.8C after -1.1C.

Yes it's a combination of the builders obviously not having a spirit level when they fitted everything and then us getting a ceramic tiled floor fitted later on. I reckon we probably originally had about 860mm dropping to 850mm along the length of the worktop but then once we added ceramic tiles we're nearer 850mm dropping to 840mm which gave us limited choice of machines. The one we have chosen is 840mm so it was cutting it a bit fine! I can gain a few millimetres at one end where it meets the wall and I'm hoping that might be enough.

Ah, sounds a very tight fit. I had a fair bit of space to play with. Tricky one.

phil, my understanding is that they lowered all the feet as much as possible to get it to fit under the worktop and it's virtually touching on one side so there's limited options!

My conscience made me sell 1/3 of my BP. last September but I kept the rest on the basis they were investing heavily in renewables. That seems to be changing!

Mr P we had exactly that problem with ours. Managed to get a thin piece of plywood under the corner to level it off. Been fine since.

Morning All.

Having a bit of an issue with the new washing machine which seems to be due to our lack of space under the worktop so the guys weren't able to get it completely level which is causing it to go a bit mad when on a spin cycle. I have a horrible feeling we are in for a major rework if the worktop needs raising so I may need to think of a temporary solution such as chopping away part of the underside of the worktop to gain the few millimetres needed. Not something I would relish with my back not fully recovered from the weekend antics!

BP. helping my lot to a positive figure so far today, and I see AFC is continuing it's recent recovery.

Morning everyone.

Cold and misty here at the moment. Cold one last night, required pyjamas and a hot water bottle.

BP just about keeping the portfolio flat.
