08/5/2017 10:26 | I had a similar problem on my 1600E, but I can't remember if the coil was at fault or the control box? Obviously back then it was a dynamo. | skinny
08/5/2017 10:14 | Alternator seems OK Aleman, slow starting even with brand new fully charged battery. I guess I'm going to need to get underneath and get the starter motor off as that's probably pretty tired after 44 years! Probably an evening job as we're away again at the weekend and there are a few Stag runs coming up so I need to get it sorted! Our excellent local Stag specialist sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago, so I may need to go back to trying to do things myself! | mrphil
08/5/2017 09:59 | Have you checked the alternator output with an ammeter, MrP? It's usually next choice if a new battery doesn't help. Cold here again. Grey and windy. It looks like the £ is going to break above $1.30 soon. That will cause a little extra drag for an economy that already looks like it's slowing, although the slightly lower oil price will act as a slight stimulus. I think the £ will tend to dominate on current magnitudes. | aleman
08/5/2017 09:50 | Skinny, wouldn't that just stop it turning over at all? | mrphil
07/5/2017 09:24 | The examples will no doubt be a bit extreme but US city and state pension deficits are very like to aggravate any US recession as local taxes will have to rise again at the same time as national taxes have to rise to close the already expanding federal deficit | aleman
06/5/2017 15:34 | Skinny-I agree regarding GE, must be a really popular car the Ateca. wllm | wllmherk
06/5/2017 10:06 | Good Morning. My SIPP finished up 0.22%, +0.17% on the week and is +6.59% YTD. A cold feeling day yesterday, with gusts of wind and no Sun to speak of - this morning is much the same! Wllmherk - as long as voters don't become complacent and fail to vote. My car is now due mid to late June - quite amazing for a mass produced car in this day and age. Enjoy your weekend. | skinny
05/5/2017 21:54 | That is interesting BL, just along the road from me a Conservative Cllr was elected in a small mining town which historically has been staunchly Labour. Can't see anything other than a Conservative landslide at the GE. wllm | wllmherk
05/5/2017 19:56 | +0.22% today, [FTSE250 +0.10%] Highest value risers : QP. +15.1%, BA. +1.9%, BLT +2.1%, BRSN +1.2%, VANL +5.2%. Worst value fallers : BMS -1.8%, HSBA -1%, ALT -5%, CNCT -2.2%. CNCT yield 7.8%, should I? Mostly unchanged over the week, YTD slightly lower @ 6.02%. Blue skies again, with some warmth in the sunshine. Ferried two voters to polling station but in vain as Labour retained that particular ward with 50.5%, so still a hardcore vote, however they lost overall control of County . In my ward Conservatives took 62% of vote [38% turnout], not bad for former predominantly mining district. Good w/e all. | blueliner
05/5/2017 18:33 | 2/7 for me. I only knew one of the answers. You are correct, MrP, the wisteria at Greys Court was gorgeous. They have two varieties and one was better than the other. I'm up +0.876% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.681%), up +1.50% on the week (FTSE100 +1.30%) and up +5.21% YTD (FTSE100 +2.16% but HIX down -0.16%). Best rises: PSON +12.39%, MKS +4.95% and RDSB +2.69%. Worst falls: ADM -1.82%, AZN -0.94% and IMI -0.46%. Any Questions comes from our Village Hall tonight. I must remember to listen. Still that cold wind. Despite the may being out in flower for a couple of weeks, it is not time to cast any clouts. Enjoy the weekend. DF | deanforester
05/5/2017 18:03 | Not a bad week for me, although the SIPP lagged behind the others. SIPP +0.24% now +2.70% YTD (thanks to the managed funds at +5.63%!), pot +1.71% now +7.25% and the Virgin ISA +0.84% now +5.52% Weather forecast dry for the weekend, enjoy! MrP | mrphil
05/5/2017 17:22 | Good for Leeds but bad for London, MrP. Not sure about the Northern Powerhouse thing. Seems a bit like Cool Britannia. is there any substance in it? I'm still on a bad run. -0.3% today. YTD -7.2%. Some of last year's currency gains unwinding but more to it than that. Some incomeshares are falling so there are more high yielders about. Are they good buying opportunities or companies gettinginto trouble? Lovely day. Had to give some plants in the garden a good watering as strong sun and strong wind is dehydrating everything. I think a few neighbours might have been doing the same. Water pressure is a bit iffy at times in the last few days. The lawns seems to have stopped growing and some neighbours' very short grass is developing brown patches. I have noticed a small number of our tiny pears have already blown off in the gusty wind of the last couple of days. It still felt warm, though, at 16.3C after a cool morning and 5.3C overnight. Lots of locals and workmen are going brown in the strong sun. More dry weather is expected, although less sunny. Have a good weekend, all. | aleman
05/5/2017 16:13 | And another one for the North! | mrphil
05/5/2017 16:12 | Nice local one for you Aleman! | mrphil
05/5/2017 14:36 | Nice order for one of the INTU sites due in shortly! | mrphil
05/5/2017 14:15 | Interesting article Aleman. | mrphil
05/5/2017 11:10 | Traffic much lighter around here for the past few weeks, but that's almost certainly down to holidays. I'll know when the holidays are over as the M27 will be stopped Westbound each morning at rush hour! | mrphil
05/5/2017 11:01 | Red for me too. Traffic was very light last night. HGVs have gone missing in recent weeks. Car traffic is very hit and miss from week to week. Although I'm a long way off, car traffic seems busy when Man UTD are at home and quiet when not. Maybe just a curious coincidence but the distance and time after final whistle seems about right. So far this year, I'd say night traffic is now much lighter than for several years but still a bit above 2009 levels. A tender 1-0 lead for the Bantams to take to Fleetwood but a very convincing performance apart from a couple of silly defensive errors that did not get punished. Stats show a very one-sided game. With 25 shots to 7 and 10 corners to 1, we could have fixed the outcome in the first leg. There should be no problem if we do as well on Sunday but Fleetwood's home form is pretty good. | aleman
05/5/2017 10:15 | There's a lot of red around for a supposedly positive day? Good job I have CTO to cancel out the fallers! ;-) | mrphil
05/5/2017 08:22 | Great to see news of the hedgehog village! Located a new hog hut in our front garden a couple of weeks ago and I'm pretty sure it's in use. We know we have them out there as we often see them at night and there are "signs" of their presence! The managed funds portion (almost half now) of the SIPP is doing reasonably well with all but one in positive territory this year. Best two currently are MFM Slater Growth @ +13.08% and Marlborough UK Micro Cap @ +13.59% but sadly they are two of my smaller holdings although they do now get a small monthly top-up. Jupiter Ecology is currently the largest and is running at +5.47% YTD but no further monthly contributions as it's reached over 7% of the whole SIPP value! Second largest is Artemis Strategic Assets which is not having a good year and is the only one in negative territory at -1.47% | mrphil |
