03/5/2017 17:16 | Similar rubbish day for me too, with the SIPP losing -0.52% due to BRCI, SBRY & CLLN and the pot lost -0.31% due to AIEA, SGC & LGEN. Aleman, last year we had plenty of pears set and start looking good but then they all disappeared very quickly. We have our suspicions the culprit has a bushy tail as he is often running along the fence immediately behind the fruit trees. Have to keep our eyes open this year! Trolley Patrol this evening then catch up with Little Boy Blue as I can't see much else on. | mrphil
03/5/2017 17:10 | -0.5% for me. BRCI weak again. Copper is testing a 6 month support after today's 4% fall. It would probably be considered a bad indicator if it failed. Another nice day. A bit cooler at 15.5C but didn't feel much different. The sun was strong this morning so roads and paths seemed to radiate enough heat to overcome the cool breeze. Still mostly sunny in the afternoon. Rather than more blossom, the bramleys' flowers are looking more tired by the day even though the dessert apple blossom is still very dense and lively. There are a remarkable number of pears growing already. It looks like being a bumper year, although we are getting badly in need of rain. | aleman
03/5/2017 16:38 | Lots more misses from US today, notably Bojangles and Groupon. Just to make matters worse, it looks like Puerto Rico's negotitations with debtors for a deal to avoid default have failed. Lots of US pension funds hold Puerto Rico debt so it will add to some already large shortfalls there. | aleman
03/5/2017 15:00 | Good Afternoon. USD ISM Non-Manufacturing PMI 57.5 56.1 55.2 | skinny
03/5/2017 14:35 | Surprisingly wide range of businesses with positive news here. Not that there is much positive for the SIPP today! | mrphil
03/5/2017 12:13 | I'd have to concede that, after an excellent first quarter, things have really slowed down. Always happens around Easter and the May Bank Holidays don't help either as it means April is wiped out and May suffers badly too. I'm not sure the average worker fully understands the difficulties these holidays can make to a smaller business, especially when you get clowns like Corbyn promising even more of them! Great until they find companies fail and there are no jobs for them anyway! | mrphil
03/5/2017 09:23 | We had 3.7C last night but it's a lovely 13C already in this morning's strong sunshine. Oz seeing rising insolvencies, too: Ausralia has a property bubble that looks to be beginning to burst. | aleman
03/5/2017 09:09 | Thought it was warm out on the Solent yesterday. We saw a high of 18.9°C but a fairly chilly feeling 6.6°C last night so that gave the Dahlias something to think about! | mrphil
03/5/2017 08:01 | US commercial heavy truck sales were 94k in Q1 versus 114k a year ago. They peaked in 2015. | aleman
03/5/2017 07:51 | Morning All. SBRY results don't look brilliant to me, but let's see how the market reacts. | mrphil
02/5/2017 17:56 | +0.40% for the Folio. [FTSE250 +0.97%]. Highest value risers : SDV +2.2%, CLIG +2.2%, GVC +1.3%, BA. +1.8%, ALT +4.7%. Worst value fallers : IGR -2.8%, HICL -1.7%, PHTM -2.2%. Re HICL: are shareholders averse to the water acquisition, must say I've never heard of Affinity. Or is it increased credit facility consequences. BRSC total dividend paid & to be paid + 20%, final dividend +24%. High pressure building west of Norway for rest of this week, Scotland and West Coast should be wall to wall, the East coast is not the place to be this week south of the Tyne.. | blueliner
02/5/2017 17:53 | I'm up +0.963% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.640%). (corrected after I found an error) Best rises: CLLN +2.38%, SMDS +1.95% and ADM +1.94%. Worst falls: S32 -2.02%, BT.A -0.74% and RIO -0.52%. It has looked like rain for the last couple of hours, but appears to have stayed dry. The washing dried well this morning. Yesterday I had to bring it in mid-afternoon when it started to spot, almost dry. Good to see that BP. is holding its dividend. DF | deanforester
02/5/2017 17:42 | Aleman, I wonder how many people are put off spending vast sums of money on a new car before we know for sure which way we are going in terms of fuel? For example I'd be reluctant to buy a new diesel at the moment but some of the cars I would be interested in are pretty much solely diesel. | mrphil
02/5/2017 17:32 | Sunny in patches here. 17.1C -0.4%. Jan-April US sales: Ford -5%, Chrysler -8%, GM -1%. This is after US small business confidence and consumer confidence jumped after Trump's election. Businesses and consumers are so confident that they are buying fewer cars ... The pear trees have set with lots of pears except for one that has only about a dozen. The one that has benefitted from cutting back other shrubs in the hedge had about 30 pears last year but has set with about 400 which I doubt it can hold. It will be interesting to see what early losses are. Dessert apple trees have very heavy blossom which bodes well. Bramleys are still low on leaf and blossom - might be early still but not looking promising. I gave them all a short watering but probably not enough to make much difference. It's been very dry of late - one significant rainfall in 5 about weeks? Apparently, botanists are worried that English bluebells are bing wiped out. Spanish bluebells are taking over everywhere and they can hybridise. We have both blue ones in our garden. The white and pink ones we have all look to be the English type (which some sources are calling Welsh). | aleman
02/5/2017 17:22 | Forgot to say, lunch on board today and we took the opportunity to go for a quick blast in The Solent - lovely! | mrphil
02/5/2017 17:21 | Behind the market but happy with +0.47% for the SIPP thanks to top risers BP., GSK & UU., and a slightly lower gain of +0.36% for the pot thanks to SGC, LGEN & RR. Dahlias have been put out today for the first of many day time sessions before they go out permanently. A couple of the Echiums are out too, one has been staying out under the pergola for a week or so already. Missed Little Boy Blue last night so may need to catch up. Peter Kay's Car Share this evening after tennis if the rain holds off! | mrphil
02/5/2017 16:53 | My SIPP finished up 0.14%. MrP - only if you are happy to. I spent a couple of hours planting up 96 trailing lobelia plants into hanging baskets earlier - I don't trust the weather to leave them out yet, but they needed to 'move on'. | skinny
02/5/2017 16:26 | Big 3 shares fall again as predicted US auto recession gets under way with second month of bad sales, leaving excessive stocks | aleman
02/5/2017 15:58 | Skinny, not been done yet but I can't really post it on here or it will "blow my cover"! Happy to email it once done if you like? | mrphil
02/5/2017 13:05 | MrP - post your link :-) | skinny
02/5/2017 11:58 | Skinny, Markit sent me the report this morning and we're thinking of "tweeting" a link saying how it fits in with our experience of the last couple of months! | mrphil
02/5/2017 10:59 | From earlier :- GBP Manufacturing PMI 57.3 54.0 54.2 | skinny
02/5/2017 10:06 | Aleman, had ZAM on the watchlist since you mentioned them back in December but haven't bought. That certainly looks like a costly pest for them. | mrphil |
