My SIPP finished down 0.45%.

We'll probably watch the last of Three Girls tonight - I've found it both incredulous and maddening that that sort of thing is allowed to happen in this day and age - we really are a horrible species at times.

Aleman, it's a funny old game as my Aberdeen Latin American Equity fund actually rose today but I guess there's a timing lag?

Amazingly, the pot actually achieved +0.25% today but pretty much all due to AMS with a slight help from RR. & DC. but of course the SIPP didn't fare so well, dropping -0.62% due to BRCI, GSK & NG.

Not sure if I can face the leaders debate tonight so might catch up on Three Girls as the other half seemed keen to watch it, although I think I've had enough of hearing all about these cases.

Well, the Met Office says 10C tonight and BBC local news said we might have frost - go figure. We had 5.9C last night but strong sunshine lifted us to 20.2C where it now feels a bit muggy under thickening cloud. It has felt very warm with a limited breeze. Because I want to cut grass tomorrow, the forecast is rain all day.

My portfolio held up well today except for ALAI which fell around 8% on Brasilian corrupt politics news which hammered local shares and the Real. I finished at -0.9%.

Lovely, if you're a duck!

I see the forecast for our woods is pretty much the same as yours now, but there wasn't a drop of rain all day when I looked this morning!

Ummm, no rain forecast for today so I'm not sure what that wet stuff is falling out of the sky for the past hour! We were going to cut the grass at our woods this evening but that plan will have to be shelved.

Painful fall for the SIPP today, despite a sterling effort from SSE

Somethings don't change Aleman.

We have rain again here and according to the BBC, it looks set to rain virtually non-stop until 8pm tomorrow - so I guess that's the end of my runner beans.

Skinny, I'm hoping all the little frogs we have in the back garden are keeping the slugs in check. I've not been finding any on my brief missions at night, although a fair few snails. Only found the first "big" slug last night - one of those horrible big green things, and a lot bigger than the frogs so I guess they would have trouble coping with that unless they had a party!

Hyden - I must admit that I've only skimmed through it myself as I've been in and out this morning - and I have the joys of Bluewater shortly!

I finally took a small FTSE short yesterday which has been limit closed @7396.

Due to slug/snail decimation I only kept a handful of runner beans at home this year with the rest going over the allotment.

Needless to say, despite my best efforts - pellets etc - they have been largely destroyed in the wet weather - Main hosta still intact though.

Had to pop out for a while, what on earth happened? The SIPP was just about blue when I left but is now decidedly red!

Finally took the plunge and opened a new ISA with HL. As I'm starting it from scratch, I thought it best to just stick to funds for the moment as there will only be the monthly contribution to play with. Have started off with Fundsmith Equity and Jupiter Asian Income which have both served me well elsewhere. Thought about spreading it about a bit but I already have around a dozen funds on the go in the SIPP and these two seem to be shining of late.

£ up again to $1.304. This will tend to drag the FTSE100 down a touch and slow exports. It will tend to aggravate the very slight slowdown we are already seeing in the UK - but will things fall off a cliff or just muddle on?

Here's a glass half full/empty article on the US with a nice simple set of graphs. Debt reaching 2008 levels again sounds bad but interest rates are much lower than 2008 - but not much lower than 2009. Delinquenices are rising in autos, credit cards and student loans but still easing on home equity and mortgages. Do the graphs indicate trouble brewing now or hint at trouble in a couple of years. Should we wait to see or take defensive action now? The experience of relying on investment income for a living has tuaght me to be very nervous.

Skinny, is it not just the brands that MARS are buying, and the pubs themselves will remain with Charles Wells? Admittedly I've only skimmed very quickly through the headlines so I may have missed something.

I've got quite a few trays overflowing - looks like we've had @2" over the last couple of days.

A day of respite and then back to the rain tomorrow is the forecast.

I'm still mulling over the MARS announcement.

To my mind Youngs pubs were largely ruined when Charles Wells took them over.

Morning, a drying day, gauge has recorded 37.5mm since drought broke.

Folio heavyweight BRSN has received a cash/shares approach from French company, early days, should it eventually happen will play havoc with this new tax years CGT allowance if I sell out & take the cash.
Looking at a bit of a profit at the moment.
Everything else looks slightly red.

Morning All.

Much brighter this morning after a very wet day yesterday. We have seedlings sitting in our wheelbarrow covered with netting to keep the birds from pulling them out whilst digging around in the compost, but of course the wheelbarrow is now full of water so the seedlings have become slightly damp!

Our bee man has started to evict the swarm that recently got into the cladding of the big shed at our woods and sent us this picture taken before eviction.

I would have happily left them there but he was concerned they might pass something on to his own hives which are only about 100 yards away, so he has evicted them and will find them a new safe home elsewhere. I hope any stragglers will be OK this evening when we go up there to cut the grass!

Morning all, a busy day for me today on the corporate side. Results and trading statements from 5 of my holdings plus Marston's has announced an acquisition of Charles Wells Brewing and Beer company.

I see the sun is shining so it will be good to get outside again after 5 days of rain. I am hoping the garden will be nice and dry come evening as the grass needs cutting.

Good link Skinny, thank you. Aleman, maybe this is the start of the fall and you will be vindicated. It might be time to get go of some of my more risky holdings.

This accounts for some of the US fall: Cisco drops Q4 guidance 5% and axes another 1100 jobs.

US rate hike recedes - it ain't due to a booming economy

US investors turn to defensives

A somewhat disappointing day for me today at -0.43%, which I think takes the wooden spoon. Fallers outpace gainers by a ration of 3:2 The biggest Value faller is ICP but it has had a good run of late and the value riser award goes to POG, surprisingly (my high risk gold play). It is good to see others making gains on a down day. :-)

An otherwise very busy day for me, with my daughter's ballet this evening and the remainder of my spare time planning for a Sunday outing with friends. I just need some dry weather now. :-)

I'm up +0.046% on the day today (FTSE100 down -0.247%).

Best rises: TSCO +2.16%, KGF +2.09% and LLOY +1.95%.

Worst falls: BLND -3.34%, IMI -2.26% and LGEN -1.94%.

BLND reported this morning, increasing the dividend for next year by 3%. No idea why the market took against it so much. SSE also reported and went up. I topped up my holding on Monday, wondering whther I was doing the right thing. It would appear that I did, as the dividend in September will be the biggest that any of my holdings pay, except for special dividends.

MARS and NG. report tomorrow, while CPG, IMI and RDSB go XD.

I see that there is no play at the Aegeas Bowl, MrP. If it hasn't stopped raining by now, little chance of a game today.
