UtyINV - yes, it is good to see battery technology advancing so quickly. It will help make the low cost renewables more usable.

And the best bit is that Elon Musk's investors are paying for a lot of the research ;-)

They are still using the other conventional forms of response like Dino. Where in the Secondary response mode a generator spinning in air and synchronised with the system can, through activating a switch, generate from 0mw to 300mw in less than 12 secs.

sbs,

The transmission System Operator is managing very well. You are right that renewables like wind etc create difficulty when trying to address the system response issues but invariably they, NG, have risen to the challenges (as professionals always manage to do so), to ensure there is sufficient Primary and Secondary response avail.
One of the areas is by the increasing use of battery storage, an area that NG is heavily into but which we don’t hear much about on the general news front.
It’s interesting to note that in one of Ofgem’s updates, they have refused to incorporate battery storage technology assets within the regulatory framework, thus encouraging the development and proliferation of battery storage as a means of effective response.

Getting back to NG. itself, how is it handling the changes to electricity generation distribution needs resulting from the move away from large coal fired stations to the proliferation of small local solar and wind generated power?

Hi newbank, apologies for the late reply, been out of the country a few days. Another long one, not too many facts by the look of things and somewhat surprisingly you seem to be trying to deflect from answering why you're unhappy with the chairman's bonus?

There's a chunky section of the accounts that deals with pay for the big hitters, page 63 ish and onwards, have a look you might learn something, I've put the link below for you so you don't have to struggle too hard. You can also see the bonus structure for the execs, you'll see that a good piece of that element of pay is linked to performance beyond the short term share price performance. Makes sense to me, we wouldn't want important people making short term decisions for say a long term infrastructure business would we?

Looks like the chairman never got a bonus, bit odd you being unhappy with the level of it. Hardly shaking off your empty vessel tag are you?

What with this and the schooling I had to give you on how the share consolidation and special dividend worked I'm beginning to wonder if you're the oracle I once thought you were.....

Is it bad luck that comes in threes or schoolings from pathetic thick lefties?

Do you want to have a go at your recent assertion that I'm a member of momentum? I'll let you know I've got a little bet running on a hat-trick being scored and I'm not going to be laying it off if that saves you some time and effort. Saves others reading this nonsense also (apologies for this, some folk can't stop digging)

Your move champ.

Timmy11,

NG.will keep investing in the US where margins are double that of the UK.
IMO NG.will only work to UK Contract terms and not tender for non contract project work as putting tenders together can be expensive.
Currently 60% of sales is in US and by 2020,probably north of 65%.
I would not be surprised if NG.split the business before 2022.

Sounds like you need a 'Mc' in front of your name and application from a Scottish address! Still i see you've had some luck, or skill, on the financial front, well done. We are currently marrying off our kids, first one in 4 weeks time, i'll be glad when it's all over!. other than that spending the kids' inheritence on lots of cruises. Good to hear from you, you are sorely needed on the climate science board, your replacement seem to a little lacking, putting it mildly.

Hi Pierre!Planning permission was rejected by the local council on the grounds of "visual impact" - despite being next to a burning 50m high slag heap in the middle of nowhere, with one of the UK's biggest wind farms right next door.It was suggested unofficially that we we're not Scottish enough. We are waiting for a more receptive planning climate, as well as upgraded local National Grid infrastructure due in a couple of years. How's life with you these days?

Prewar,

Not grumpy at all this morning and there isn't any character assassination. McDonnell and Corbyn have admitted that they follow Marxism and if you support them .....?

Every comment you make is a swipe at anything I, Uty, Bounty or others post. Its too much of a reoccurrence that everything you post is accusatory, rhetorical and intended as an antagonistic jibe.

This is a bb for National Grid, for shareholders to share news and comments that may pose a relevance to their share holding and future returns. It is not a bb for momentum that is trying so desperately to win support. The irony about Labour is that even if they were to get into Gov they would be out of their depth, people will see them for what they are ..influenced and obsessed by the Green Eyed Monster.

Having spoken to Gershon and Pettigrew, one thing that they are very clear and supportive of is stoping the Marx Brothers from getting their hands on National Grid (an appreciated stance having once worked in a Nationalised Industry). They (Pettigrew and Gershon), have both said "of course the Labour Party want to take control of NG why wouldn't they"? "The Company is a great success and Left Wing politicians like to raid the profits of profitable companies, squander it on those that want something for nothing, which in turn invariably destroys the Company".

Why do you think NG have willingly and successfully separated out the SO business? Because Labour can win face by taking Control of SO, attempt to influence the Energy Business, make a hash of it (there are thousands of Unionise workers/professionals in NG that would rather sabotage the business then lose their shareholdings and make it a success for Labour)and hopefully encourage the voting population never to vote for Labour again unless someone like David Milliband comes back to promote a more business friendly Centre Politics.

So IMV, after speaking to the Board, the Board and I share a common goal....never to allow the Marxists Brothers to get hold of NG as we know it. Invest in the US and invest in new profitable enterprises. Keep offering all staff share ownership and make them realise that NG in the private sector works for them and their families.

If Labour ever get the opportunity to Govern you will be surprised at the amount of money that will flow out of the Country.

Please don't expect me to respond further. Please don't twist comments and take them out of context. You are playing a childish game that many of us grew out of when we grew out of adolescence.

Let's draw a line under this now and move on :-)
NG related posts only please just for now while things calm down a bit; don't know anything about the Chairman but share price performance has certainly been frustrating for several reasons imho and there is some explaining to do whatever the reasons of which there appear to be a few interrelated ones.

Wow newbank you seem a bit grumpy this morning, a lot of that kind of felt irrelevant? I'll leave it up to bounty as to whether they decide your character assassination is in keeping with the aims of this thread.

Have met a couple of the board, a few more of the old timers now gone.

Anyway back to the subject matter, what's wrong with the chairman's bonus? How much is it by the way? In my experience the non executive chairman wouldn't get a bonus but you probably know better than me? Unless that is you are confirmation of the saying "empty vessels make the most noise"?

Prewar you really are pathetic!

Have you ever met the Chairman, or the Board for that matter? Have you ever worked with them?

Of course he is doing a great job if your remit is to destroy the share price in case of the Marxist Brother ever realise their ambition. I know many Employees who are Union Members but despise the nasty Marxists for threatening their life savings, pensions and livelihood.

But that doesn't matter when the Left Wing are only interested in destroying the economy and destroying one of the greatest Utility Companies this Country has produced.

Just like Gordon Brown sold all the gold, the utilities have been sold and never should be brought back into Public Ownership. Regulate, yes! But stop the Left Wing rhetoric. If you are a Labour supporter you would dislike the Chairman more than others so wind it in.

You have already mentioned that you do not hold many NG shares and that you would love to see the Company Nationalised. I cannot see any reason why you would post on a Financial Bulletin Board unless your purpose is to do the Nasty Party's work ( Labour)

Haven't you got the message yet? No one on here is interested in your Left Wing, anti capitalist Marxist following. That is why many refuse to engage with you.

If the share Price rose to £12 I imagine you would be cursing the 'Board'.

So please take the hint, your Left Wing rhetorical comments are not appreciated, add nothing and in many cases your comments are unqualified.

Don't bother to reply, unless you have OCD, just take the hint.

Newbank really post #533, you seem to be quite negative about things, it wasn't so long ago that you were criticising me for something similar. Sounds like a case of "physician heal thyself". I think the board are doing a decent job, quality CFO's take a while to recruit and the board will have a lot more skin in the equity game than you or I.

As for criticising the chairman, calling him arrogant isn't very nice is it? As for saying his bonus is too high that's totally unjustified isn't it?
