Divi cover of less than 1 for quite a while shows they're running out of steam and they can't continue to pay high divi! Unless something drastic happens for them in the future.

The shorts are enabling me to achieve a nigh on 6% prospective return currently. If it gets siginificantly better, I'll probably increase my holding further.

I see that NGG ADR’s shorting interest in the US has increased by 98% over the past two weeks. An indication of a lacklustred period. Institutions lend shares to Hedge Funds to get extra income. IMV this would not be the case if NG changed their dividend policy from 65% final and 35% interim to four equal dividends paid quarterly.

All IMO only though.

Interesting to note MacDonnell’s speech to the TUC. The self confessed Marxist went onto say he wanted Union Officials to be in Board Rooms running the Companies, workers having a stake in the Company ( where has he been for the last 30 years, workers already have s stake with sharesaves and other benefits), and he is against workers getting less than shareholders??? Shareholders own the Companies MacDonnell, workers work for shareholder’s benefit.

However, if you listen to his words they have changed from earlier speeches. He said “we will Nationalise water, railways, the Royal Mail and have a workable energy market.

First time he intimated nationalising the energy market isn’t really needed if you just control system ops.

Also, it’s very clear Labour’s stance on Brexit is irrelevant as they don’t have any direction themselves. When pressed about supporting a deal or no-deal they will vote against either. Then the bomb shell, (we are not interested in anything to do with Brexit even if it is important for the Country’s future) what we really want is to force a General Election.
Nasty egoistical Left Wing politicians not interested in anything other than their own political careers.

Article in today's THE TIMES page 39 Intelligent exchange is boost for supply;
"- - redesign electricity grid - - current grid is centrally controlled and incredibly
fragile - - grid 100 years old and very rigid - - need a system that is able to deal with volatility. The Farady Grid is built on a network of Faraday Exchangers which replace the transformers, inverters, rectifiers and converters of the current grid.
Etc, etc."
As the worlds first Faraday Grid is set to go live at the beginning of next year, how much of a threat is this to NP?

Another safe pair of hands

National Grid (LSE: NG) is also widely viewed in the investment community as another safe pair of hands. The company’s monopoly in the regulated national electricity transmission network results in it earning steady cash flows, which vary only modestly with each year.

This stable business model underpins the company’s ability to pay regular dividends year after year, and explains why National Grid is one of the least cyclical stocks in the FTSE 100.
Regulatory risks

Nonetheless, investors should not underestimate the company’s own share of regulatory risks. Under pressure to do more to cut household energy bills, the regulator Ofgem has announced plans to introduce much tougher price controls on the industry, which would reduce returns earned by network owners.

That said, Ofgem is currently consulting on the proposed “cost of equity range” and any changes wont affect National Grid until its next pricing regime begins in 2021. Meanwhile, the company has taken some steps to mitigate these risks, by exiting activities like gas distribution, where returns are lower.

What’s more, valuations are undemanding. With shares in National Grid trading at 14.8 times its expected earnings this year, they’re being valued at a significant discount to the market. In addition, dividends currently yield 5.6%, and they’re forecast to grow by at least RPI inflation over the medium term.

SO/TO split on track for successful completion April 2019.

Many on the transitional project are being made redundant and the resulting responsibilities within the TO and SO functions are being consolidated creating greater efficiencies.

Mind you, on the Elect Side, when you see the Consolidation from Privatisation to Five Centre (part of V2K) to where we are now, there is logic.

My only minor concern is whether the experienced people leaving may put too much on to those less experienced that remain. Mind you, training has always been a problem no matter how well you train and test people before authorisation because you never really know what they don't know and how well they cope under real pressure.

Pierre,

How are you doing? Its been a while on this thread :)

It used to infuriate me when units were not depicted correctly.

In my original post (6550), mw was a typo on my I-phone.

Obviously my post 6568 was intended to make me clearer.

It's a great way of seeing if someone posing as if they know what they are on about actually know much at all. Inventing their own units, what a giveaway. If you see MWhs, the perverse MWh's, mw, mW (unless they actually mean mW), Mw MWH, MWHS, mw/h, or any combination of the above the poster is a poser. Surprisingly, you see such things all over the press, so many writing about grid issues really don't understand the basics.

UtyINV - "a generator spinning in air and synchronised with the system can, through activating a switch, generate from 0mw to 300mw in less than 12 secs."

haha that made me smile, I used to know what a milliwatt was, going to revoltionise the electricity generation market haha

Interesting someone writing that NG. may be inclined to split the business in a few years, probably a good move. I must say the prospect of Corbyn / Macdonald running the country gives me nightmares, but perhaps I won't need to worry as I'll be dead haha.
