Minerve, like your sidekick Meanwhile, you make a lot of wrong assumptions about people. The amount of time someone has spent investing is not a function of how long they've been posting under a given name on ADVFN strangely enough! The first shares I ever bought were BAA when it was privatised in 1987. So it looks like you've revealed you're the relative novice with a mere two decades of experience!? Not that I'm surprised by that - one can tell by your use of 'ROFLMAO' - the only other person I know who uses that is my 13 year old goddaughter!

Hi Losos

Dry here too. Farmers are very canny. Always drive a hard bargain.

B+ - "I know quite a few farmers locally, all of whom are much wealthier than me, who are very sensible people."

Haha, yes we are the same, and the largest farmer around here invested £2 million a few years ago to build three reservoirs, these are now keeping all their vegetable crops growing well, despite no rain for 7 weeks, so you & I (and millions of other shoppers) can still have our roast & two veg for dinner.

If that isn't smart investing I don't know what is. Next time I'm up at the hall I must ask him for some share tips haha.

Farnborough Air Show GKN Briefs so far. The show finishes on 22nd July.

GKN Aerospace will create a new Aero Engine Component Repair (MRO) and Research facility in the state of Johor in Southern Malaysia. The facility will open in 2019 and will service engine fan blades and fan discs for commercial aircraft. The facility will provide additional capacity to GKN Aerospace’s existing facility in San Diego, California, to meet growing demand in the Asia-Pacific region.

GKN Fokker Elmo and Boeing have agreed to a contract extension, to supply wiring for three of Boeing’s airplane families—the 777, 737 and P8A.

GKN Aerospace and Rolls-Royce formalized an agreement for the manufacturing of inner core fairings for the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 and 84,000 lb.-thrust Trent XWB engine programs through 2026.

GKN Fokker Elmo and the State of Maharashtra (India) have signed an MOU for a $10 million investment in a second manufacturing facility for wiring interconnection systems in India. The new site, a fully owned GKN Aerospace business, is located in Pune in the state Maharashtra and is scheduled to come on line in the fourth quarter of 2018. Production will start in the first quarter of 2019, the work force is expected to grow to 800 in 2027.

Something I hadn’t realised is that GKN has a permanent pavilion at Farnborough. They committed to 10 years in 2014. Good move, and before someone says, before Melrose!!!

On 24th April in its GKN Trading Update Melrose said

“When it announces its interim results in the first week of September 2018, Melrose looks forward to giving a comprehensive review of performance and guiding the market on its exciting plans for the long term future of the GKN businesses.”

The news from the different divisions looks pretty exciting already in my opinion.

Aero, Drive and Metallurgy advances, new manufacturing technologies, and new markets such as electric cars, to my mind make Melrose’s acquisition of GKN very opportune and at a very good price.

As it happens, so do I. That is because I invest big time, from time to time, in pharma. If you invest in pharma and you don't know what the blue pill is, I suggest you should call it a day! LOL

NEW AREAS FOR GKN AEROSPACE TO EXPLOIT

Engine maker Rolls-Royce has designed a propulsion system for a flying taxi which it says could take to the skies as soon as early next decade.

The British firm said it had drawn up plans for an "electric vertical take-off and landing" (EVTOL) vehicle, which could carry four to five people.

The vehicle could travel at speeds of up to 250 mph (402 km/h) for approximately 500 miles, it said.

Rolls joins a variety of other firms in seeking to develop flying vehicles.
