Minerve, if you have really been doing this for almost 30 years, buying all these great investments at just the right time, and then selling up at just the right time you must be a very very wealthy man. Which begs the same question you havent answered the other times I've asked it...why on earth are you spending any of your time posting all this stuff on the board of a share you don't even hold?? Why aren't you on a yacht in Monaco or whatever??

They haven't tanked, I'm still 40% up in my SIPP. There is nothing uncanny at all. I've been in this business almost 30 years, most full-time, on my own account. Experience is everything.

In a volatile market with numpties like Trump a 40% gain is worth taking BECAUSE you know he will spout sh*te sooner or later which will provide new opportunities. That's exactly what I've done and am doing.

Minerve, well that's uncanny isn't it? You've got amazing timing haven't you? I had a feeling you would have sold out just before they tanked.

Meanwhile, does the shop sell any Lycra shorts? I'm looking for a pair of black shorts (they're more 'slimming'). Do you do special rates for friends?

I was sat on good profits in the AA and sold out a few weeks ago when it was looking like the trade war theme wasn't going to go away soon and momentum had ran out of steam. Still have some in my pension (SIPP) up 40.49% as of close today. Will hold onto those and see if the AA plan plays out.

I don't think interest rates are going anywhere fast so I am not worried about their debt anymore than I was when I first bought them.

Most of my investments in the ISAs are income plays so AA was a little bit of an anomaly even though it was yield over just over 2%. Most of my shares in my ISAs yield 6% or over.

GKN aerospace in Flight Global

“ANALYSIS: How GKN envisions its future after change in ownership

25 JUNE, 2018 SOURCE: FLIGHTGLOBAL.COM BY: MICHAEL GUBISCH LONDON

Following a turbulent period for GKN – culminating in its acquisition by turnaround specialist Melrose Industries in April – the UK engineering group's aerospace arm is confident it can continue to invest in new technology and grow its business under its new ownership.”

Exmoor sounds great. I've never been walking there before. We also had plenty of Full English's and Jenning's/Wainwright's! Next stop for me is The Open at Carnoustie via Edinburgh. Then two weeks in Majorca, long weekend in Broadstairs, and a big trip to Vegas to celebrate my friend's sale of his business to a private equity firm. Only problem is trying to hold down a full time job at same time...

Getting

Glad you enjoyed Windermere. We’ve been walking on Exmoor. Three beacons and three beaches is just the right balance. Plus lots of full English breakfasts. Second b&b was at a fabulous stables. 20 x 20 bedroom plus lots of animals - 5 dogs, 2 cats, chickens, ducks, geese and of course horses with a new born foal. Brilliant. Back home now to the garden.

Am going to put my toe into both Halma and Burford. Think they might both drop a little more over the next few days.

You really are high tech. I don’t even bother with a mobile. Use my wife’s!!!!

Good morning all, just returned from a week of cycling and walking around Windermere. What a fantastic part of the world especially in this weather! I see that Meanwhile couldn't keep away for long and is still trying to convince everyone how much 'intellect' he has - not a word I think anyone would associate with him given his child-like 'calculations' and googled song lyrics but I must admit he does amuse me.
B+, re: your post from a few days ago, my vote absolutely goes to Halma. There are never any guarantees obviously but I've invested another £40k in them this year and I know Yertiz is equally comfortable with them as a good place for your money.

Bye then. No sad loss - perhaps you really will go this time, your cut n pastes will not be missed, just weird how you thought this added to the board content.

Your mathematical endeavours however...... ha ha ha!

I've returned, for one post only I hope, just to say how very boring and useless this site has become since I left and with Minerve's interest almost declining to nothing. The site now lacks the intellect and experience of Minerve and myself.
It's lost the sharp insight of the two of us set against the tedious and insipid
monologues from the rest of you.

We've lost the astute and experienced Minerve, clearly dominant in the last round of conflict, putting more solid arguments based on pure knowledge, logic and fact.

Yet we still have 'The Cotswold Sage', Brexit - "Achieving a first class degree is no indication of achievment"- introducing, with his 3rd class honours, his highly technical articles found in the 'Ohio Engineering News' and pushing the 'sentiment' angle for Melrose, as if sentiment was a substitute for solid prospect.
Gettingdownhill, his faithful stooge, with his phobia of maths and logic, still trying to bludgeon the opposition with his endless barrage of silly questions like "why don't you sell then" or "go on, please tell us, when will you be selling".
And then Losos, while he's still with us, occasionally surfacing with any relevant articles he's spotted in the financial pages of 'Horse & Hound'.
As for Yertiz, nothing more to expect from him apart from his usual totally illogical content in an attempt to divert the opposition.

A very sad state of affairs.

The ex - CEO has been jailed for 6 years for window dressing the Anglo Irish Bank Balance Sheet during the financial crisis. Were the reports of Balance Sheet window dressing as part of the defence during the Melrose/ GKN bid pursued by UK regulators?

If you like a little bit of risk B+ have a look at FDEV where I am now building my position on new game release. FDP is on my radar and PRSM is a holding.
I have started in on BUR in the last few weeks as well.
All as a result of a partial sell down in BOO.
Don’t you like GVC as a replacement for Playtech?

SSPG has Kate Swann as a great manager and is in early stages of growth.

Good luck in any case.

I have lost faith in Playtech and sold out of my ISA (small loss) and SIPP (large profit) due to poor share price performance, but good dividends, and reinvested in Melrose and Syncona. The environment for Playtech isn’t too hot. They have bought an Italian gambling company just as the new Italian government says it is going to crack down on gambling!!!

Am looking at Halma and Burford Capital.

Any other suggestions?

Rolls Royce

Excellent article on RR restructuring by IG Group titled “ Rolls-Royce restructuring to create a lean, mean fighting machine“. Includes

“East has already cut thousands of jobs, with over 4000 fewer staff on its books now than at the end of 2014. However, he is now ready to make a fresh wave of cuts as part of the biggest restructuring of Rolls-Royce in almost two decades.”

Really worth a read.

I note that General Electric is being removed from the Dow on the 26th of June. This once great industrial company says it is working to be a stronger and simpler company. Where have I heard that before?!!!

Even having sold off lots of divisions it still employs 300,000 people.

Round 2!!!

Re RR being an engineering company who make engines, that is only half the truth. In fact they are really a service company that makes engines since they sell new engines at a loss and make their money servicing them, as I understand it.

And actually, if you look at Nortek, since Melrose have owned GKN for such a short time, Nortek have been doing a lot on the digital side, acquiring one specialist company, taking on more staff, moving to new digital friendly head quarters, etc.

RR before East, who is taking a similar approach to Melrose, performed badly, just like Nortek.

Surely the job of managers is to make their company as good as possible. The fact that Melrose sell theirs on should not affect the argument. Were the Melrose team to have taken over management of RR in say 2012 and “kept it forever” I’m sure they would have improved it greatly and it’s “sp” would be much higher. The fact is Melrose have improved the companies they have owned and made profits for their shareholders. How else would buyers have paid so much.

Just my “also ran” opinion of course.
