timbo3,

the ticker for the nil-paid rights is MARN.

Eventually - then they get re-adjusted because of an incorrect adjusted amount. Finally, when its so far in the past as to be irrelevant, they'll be adjusted correctly.

By my calulations MARs ords should open today at around 92p and the nil paid rights should open at around 33p (based on a closing price yesterday of 129p for the ords)

I wonder what the ticker code will be for the nil paid rights

pherrom - contact you broker and tell tham that you want to go to the AGM and vote your holding. Your broker will issue you with a document appointing you as their proxy in respect of the shares that you hold. You can go to the meeting and vote with this. I have done it myself several times with several stocks - no worries. Your broker shouldn't charge you for the privilige.

Does anyone know how one can vote if one's shareholding is held by a broker in a nominee account?

From the same page 24:

"Record date for entitlements under the Rights Issue for Qualifying CREST Shareholders and Qualifying Non-CREST Shareholders: close of business on 1 July"

Unlike dividends, where the ex-date always occurs before the record date, the reverse often seems to be the case with rights issues.

I think this means that purchasers of the shares on 2-6 July are entitled to the rights, but won't get them automatically (because they're not on the register as of CoB 1 July). Conversely, sellers 2-6 July will probably be allocated nil-paid rights they aren't entitled to (because they are on the register at CoB 1 July).

I suggest you to the Marstons web site and download the prospectus (see link below), then go to page 24 of the prospectus and you will see it in black and white

Existing Shares marked "ex-rights" by the London Stock Exchange: 8.00 a.m. on 7 July

Read the news article above titled "Proposed Rights Issue", and you'll see that it is you that is confused. Particulary as the 'ex-dividend' date was 3rd June and its due to be paid on Tuesday.

You can take a horse to water ....

mesquida, you are indeed correct.

The EGM is on July 6th (to approve, [or not approve] the rights issue) so the shares cannot possible go ex-rights before then.

It sounds like the EGM might be a lively affair and the rights issue may not be a foregone conclusion (see article below)

You are confusing this with the timetable for a dividend payment - the dealings on an ex-rights basis definitely do not begin until July 7th.

Record date for the rights is July 1st, so they will go ex-rights 2 trading days before that, which will be Monday 29th. The rescaled share price will be 87-88p.

I'm watching and waiting on MARS, I will not buy until after they go ex-rights (July 7th), I'm impressed by the recent director buying and the directors commitment to take up their rights.

Meanwhile, I found this in the Morning Advertiser which is an interesting read
