02/2/2019 12:25 | bbalanjones: I've done the homework you set me. Waded through hxxps://www.oxfordre and what a jargonfest that was! Made difficult reading for a lay(wo)man who has never been able to get to grips with social sciences language. BTW, pity the EU don't currently help to resolve another "frozen" conflict on the island of Ireland........ I was amused to note the reference to "EU" throughout the article, rather than "the EU". I wondered if this is the nomenclature adopted by those academics and bureaucrats who make their living out of the institution. The loss of the definite article makes it sound more like a country and thus lends it an air of permanence. EU English, not UK English. :-) Or newspeak? As for the methods adopted to help resolve the Kosovo/Serbia problem whilst I applaud the efforts didn't they just apply basic psychology? I don't know enough about it to know whether diplomatic bodies other than the EU were involved here and therefore how much difference the EU made. The other article hxxps://europeanmove This is not quite the trading ticket the UK voted for when it voted in Referendum 1 in the 70's. I don't remember much mention at that time of federalism or international ambition. It is what the EU has become which has made it so unpopular with so many Europeans and why so many in the UK voted to leave. Apologies if I have missed the points made in both articles. | keyno
02/2/2019 11:36 | g2:: Just start to contemplate the fact that lines on geographical maps were drawn and do not in reality exist. We live on a small blob in space who's inhabitants have to learn to co-exist before we destroy the whole shebang. European integration is truly only a first step to a better human future - if we can pull our fingers out and learn to get on with our fellow humans. | bbalanjones

02/2/2019 10:12 | When Churchill referred to Europe he meant continental Europe. It would not even have occurred to him that we should be part of such an organization. Our closest links are with the wider world including North America. | grahamite2
02/2/2019 09:50 | I am sick of these Winston Churchill references. | minerve |
