Heres a thing. How come MPs never have to go on strike for a pay rise. And how come when they are obsessed with making other groups of workers like teachers, police and just about everyone meet targets, league tables and so on they never have to? How about deducting £1 from their pay for every illegal immigrant that lands on an English beach and giving them a £1 bonus for every immigrant thats broken the law thats deported.

MILITARY OPERATION IN UKRAINE 15 MAR, 10:11

Russia thwarts Ukrainian military's attempt to infiltrate Belgorod Region on
March 14.

The sabotage group covertly moved toward the settlement of Kozinka located on the state border, where it entered several houses on its outskirts, the ministry said.

MOSCOW, March 15. /TASS/. The Russian Armed Forces and the Federal Security Service’s border authorities thwarted an attempt by a group of Ukrainian militants, with mercenaries and special operations forces’ fighters among them, to infiltrate the Belgorod Region on March 14, the Defense Ministry reported.

"On March 14, the Russian Armed Forces together with the Russian Federal Security Service’s border authorities thwarted another attempt by units of the Ukrainian military to get to the territory of Russia’s Belgorod Region, this time around near the settlement of Kozinka adjacent to the border. At around 4:30 p.m. Moscow time for obtaining surprise a Ukrainian sabotage group of special operations forces’ fighters and foreign mercenaries at two Mi-8 helicopters landed up to 30 troops on Ukrainian territory 1 km away from the state border of the Russian Federation," the report said.

The sabotage group covertly moved toward the settlement of Kozinka located on the state border, where it entered several houses on its outskirts, the ministry said.

"As they attempted to get into the settlement, the Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance forces were detected and stopped by the Russian army’s units together with the Federal Security Service’s border authorities. Fire damage was inflicted to the enemy by artillery fire, the attacks by army aircraft and guided aircraft bombs," according to the report.

Having sustained significant losses, the Ukrainian militants started retreating to the territory of Ukraine, the ministry noted, adding that the remnants of the Ukrainian sabotage group were destroyed in a minefield during their retreat to Ukrainian territory, with the enemy’s losses reaching over 50 people.

"The sabotage group tried to gain a foothold in one of the houses on Respublikanskaya Street, directly adjacent to the state border, where they were blocked by units of the Russian army. The remnants of the group, who retreated to the territory of Ukraine, entered a minefield where they were destroyed. Total losses of the Ukrainian armed forces exceeded 50 people," the report said.

The Ukrainian military’s losses at the attempted breakthrough operation on March 12-14 exceeded 1,500 militants, including around 500 irreplaceable losses, with 18 tanks and 23 armored combat vehicles destroyed. "All in all, over the past three days, from March 12 to 14, Russia’s Battlegroup West together with the Russian Federal Security Service’s border authorities thwarted all attempts by Ukrainian militants to get to the territory of the Belgorod and Kursk Regions of the Russian Federation. Attacks by the Ukrainian army’s units were repelled," the ministry concluded.

MILITARY OPERATION IN UKRAINE 15 MAR, 12:04

Key facts about Ukrainian army’s bid to penetrate border village of Kozinka in Belgorod.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Kiev lost up to 50 servicemen in its latest failed attempt to storm the border.

MOSCOW, March 16. /TASS/. Russian Armed Forces personnel and Federal Security Service border guards have thwarted the Ukrainian armed forces’ latest attempt to penetrate the borderline Belgorod Region near the village of Kozinka, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters.

According to the ministry, Kiev lost up to 50 servicemen in its latest failed attempt to storm the border. Ukraine’s total losses from several such failed attempts recently amount to 1,500 troops and several dozen armored vehicles.

TASS has gathered the key information currently available about the Ukrainian border penetration campaign

Breakthrough attempt at Kozinka
- Up to 30 Ukrainian saboteurs and foreign mercenaries made a landing on two Mi-8 helicopters within a kilometer of the Russian border around 4:30 p.m. Moscow time (1:30 p.m. GMT) on March 14, the Russian Defense Ministry reported. The group started moving towards Kozinka, stopping at houses on the outskirts of the village.

- When the group attempted to proceed further, it was stopped by Russian servicemen and border guards. The border zone near Kozinka had been mined remotely to prevent Ukrainian reserves from approaching.

- Some saboteurs tried to occupy one of the houses during their retreat. Others came to the mine field, where they were eliminated. Simultaneously, a unit manning a Tornado multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) eliminated a team of Ukrainian troops on a mission to evacuate casualties.

- Control over Kozinka was fully restored, and the area where blocking Ukrainian saboteurs were located was cleared, the ministry added.

Ukrainian losses
- Losses by Kiev’s forces in the Ukrainian saboteurs' raid totaled over 50, according to the Russian Defense Ministry’s estimates.

- Total losses experienced by Kiev forces in attempts to penetrate into Russia over the past three days reached over 1,500 fighters, among whom 500 were killed. The Russian Army destroyed 18 Ukrainian tanks and 23 armored combat vehicles, the ministry specified.

Previous penetration attempts
- The first attempt to break through the border was reported on March 12. The penetration was attempted in the Belgorod Region near the villages of Odnorobovka, Nekhoteyevka and Spodaryushino, and in the Kursk Region near the village of Tyotkino.

- On March 14, Kursk Region Governor Roman Starovoit reported a new attempt, thwarted by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Russian military near Tyotkino. The Federal National Guard Service confirmed this information.

- The same day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported a repelled attack near Spodaryushino. According to the ministry, Kiev lost up to 195 troops and 15 pieces of equipment, including five tanks.

- On March 15, the ministry emphasized that all attempts to break into the Belgorod and Kursk regions made on March 12-14 had been repelled.

Situation in the Belgorod and Kursk regions
- The situation in borderline regions remains tense, as they are still being massively shelled from Ukraine.

- On March 15, three people were injured during the shelling of Belgorod, city Mayor Valentin Demidov said.

- In the Belgorod Region, around 400 people, residing in three borderline villages, including Kozinka, were evacuated due to the shelling by the Ukrainian armed forces. According to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, local residents are not panicking and are coping courageously with the high-risk situation.

- Starovoit reported the shelling of the village of Gogolevka, Sudzhansky District, Kursk Region. Three houses as well as household outbuildings and a gas pipeline were damaged.

That was my guess, I wonder why they don't spread it out over a whole year or why they don't intervene with a new buyback as soon as the old one completes, sitting on cash would be increasingly daft as deposit rates tumble.

A big week for UK investors next week. Latest CPI released on Weds the market hoping for it to print around 3.5%, followed by BoE MPC not expected to cut rates on Thursday but the balance of the vote and the language around the decision should signal cuts on the way, I think the consensus bet is June. Perhaps not yet the sharp pivot which I have been confidently predicting for about 6 months now, to no avail.

I must be thick. What does it matter?
The total cost was x. The current total value is y - plus any divis plus any previous sales. Why complicate it? Most of the holdings in my portfolio are aggregates of buys and sells over a period - some larger some smaller. I know exactly what Ive shelled out and exactly how much they have earned/lost me and what they are currently worth at any time of any day. I dont see why I need to know more. (in sell/buy/value terms)

74foxy. ok I get that (I think) but when you use the ADVFN portfolio it offers only SELL or SELL ALL.
My question was about how to match in the ADVFN Sell (not sell all). i.e. in my example there would be, let's say 3 x 100 entries, so 3 "separate" entries when you select Sell (not Sell all)to match against. There is no average except back at the Summary page.
Now I know someone is bound to say, don't bother with ADVFN but I don;t want to use ADVFN, then the broker AND maybe another itteration say with Excel.
Hope this is clear.

thanks 74foxy. I'll read and digest.
maxk - lol. I know, I am heading into the twilight zone soon.
I chose LLOY BB as it's seemed more likely to get a positive answer than some of the ghastly BB's with AIM shares where you are immediately called a ramper or de-ramper just for appearing for the first time.
Anyway, It seems odd to ask now but it's been doing my head in for years.
Probably didn't want to admit I was clueless. lol.
Right, I'll now try and work out 74foxy's offering.

Share Matching - Buying in tranches then part disposal "using ADVFN portfolio":

I hope nobdoy minds me posting this question here as we wait for LLOY to go through 50P. If there is a separate BB on this subject that anybody knows of(I can't find anything)then greatly appreciated to point me in right direction and apologies if this seems a somewhat simplistic question.

Hypothetically; I buy, say 300 shares in 3 tranches of 100 (3 x 100) total now 300 and all at different prices over different months.
I decide to sell, say, 25, then another 25 later etc etc.
How do you match the Sales against Buys? i.e. which order? OR in my example on the first sale of 25 would you match 1/3 against all the 3 x 100 (ie 8, then 8, then 9?) You can see this doesn't match precisely and would be a laborious task.
I ask because the ADVFN average price left never matches my figures with my portfolio in my broker account. I have no idea what system they use.
Obviously I suppose i can just choose to match the total sale (25) against any of the 3 x 100 tranches (e.g. 100-25 leaves 75 in that tranche) ie. just pick the one that gives me a profit or maybe a loss, "depending on my mood".
Hopefully this is clear.......as mud. lol.

NB: btw I do NOT want to match for CGT rules. I simply wanted to know how others, when using the ADvFN portfolio for entering buys and sales carry out this task - specifically relating to buying in traches and selling parts of those tranches as and when.

Apologies for being off topic but if there is a BB on this subject or anyone knows a link on the web I would appreciate being put in the right direction so I don't take up time on this BB. I just cannot find anything except government rules on CGT/FIFO which "I do not require".

Let's assume (purely hypiothetically) all this is in an ISA anyway so CGT is not relevant. Many thanks in advance.

Ministers have been trying to pressure Whitehall staff back into the office at least 60pc of the time, or three days a week for full-time staff, over fears that working from home has reduced productivity and increased waiting times for services.

Just give the lazy farkers an ultimatum.

Move back to the office, full time, or you get let go.
