15/12/2020 18:56 | These are all good reasons to press for the No Deal Brexit. The best reason of all is to be free, living in an independent country. I want to help pass on a country that is self governing, a beacon for democracy. Brexit means taking back control of our laws, our borders and our money. That way we will be better governed. If any given government lets us down we can sack them and get the answer we want from another. That is something we could never do as members of the EU. They gave us the laws and we did not control the government.... John Redwood | ![]() xxxxxy
15/12/2020 18:54 | Level playing field is part of what makes the EU the protectionist racket that it is. False premise is that UK standards once we've left will somehow be inferior. Not necessarily the case, for example treatment of live animals exported to EU. We can have higher standards and still undercut them once we've left. Go for it Boris. Embrace no deal. | ![]() cheshire pete

15/12/2020 18:43 | PC - a bit more research on these rights. They look permanent although some owners may lease them on or rent them out. (A couple of adverts that I found). "Defra’s data reveals Spanish firms have bought permanent control of 88 percent of the fish quota for Wales, including whiting, hake, pollock and sole. These fish are mainly caught by one vessel, the Armaven Uno, which belongs to Arzaven (UK), a company whose owners live in Spain. A spokesman for Lesley Griffiths, the Welsh environment secretary, said: “Welsh vessel owners — as did Scottish and English — have legitimately sold their boats and quota allocations to UK companies with owners in other EU states.”" | ![]() alphorn
15/12/2020 18:28 | Time for max 100 mps and 50 in the lords. No justification for ppl such as Lab Dep to be in HOC - no education no working experience Has to be chamber of ppl with knowledge and experience - however bad! | ![]() jl5006
15/12/2020 18:26 | The only real political statesman who should have been pm instead of bj is Jeremy hunt. At least kier starmer is well educated and articulate. It must be obvious that the sovereignty aspect of a Brexit deal whereby retaliation tariffs are only applied in future where the uk has taken action to achieve a competitive advantage on specific items is many times better than no deal and tariffs on everything. Similarly, if the fishing rights now cause no problem then compromise and let the eu have 33% of their previous rights. How on earth much fish do the govt think we can eat as a nation if we keep the lot ???? | ![]() millwallfan

15/12/2020 18:07 | BJ is simply playing self interest politics (as do most senior politicians) If we get a reasonable deal he will claim to be a fantastic hard negotiator who always knew the eu would concede on key points. If we leave with no deal he will say how he did absolutely everything possible and blame the eu for total intransigence. All just to save his own skin. What happened to the ‘oven ready’ deal on his election as leader and the lies of the £350m a week for the nhs on the bus. I have voted Tory all my life but think the way bojo , gove and co stabbed Cameron and may in the back for their own political gain and the way they have subsequently handled COVID and Brexit is disgraceful. They have lost all respect from so many ‘centre’ voters. | ![]() millwallfan
15/12/2020 18:02 | PC - my understanding is that they are rights that have been sold. So unless nationalised they belong to the owner/purchaser. What I don't know is whether they are 'lease like' with a time frame. Plus whether, like a lease, the holder has the right to extend. If you find out, please post! | ![]() alphorn
15/12/2020 17:57 | "Bozo will do a rotten lousy deal just to save his own skin..." ....but it won't save his skin, and brexiteers won't buy it. Farage won't sit idly by if Boris sells us out. It would be bye bye Boris, bye bye Tories and hello Reform Party. Boris and his advisers, ERG et al know this, which is why I think he'll stand firm and leave without a deal. No point in trying to appeal to the middle ground on this, it won't work. | ![]() cheshire pete
15/12/2020 17:48 | Brexit was a fantasy from the start and the truth about leaving the EU is finally becoming clear. All the deluded Brexiteers must now realize there is no easy Brexit even the 'Australian style' one has many problems for Australia which could be much worse for UK. Brexit: Malcolm Turnbull tells UK 'be careful what you wish for' over EU trade Speaking on BBC Question Time, Mr Turnbull said: "Australia has a deal with the EU on WTO terms and there are really some very large barriers to Australian trade with Europe, which we are seeking to address as we negotiate a free trade agreement with Europe "But Australians would not regard our trade relationship with Europe as being a satisfactory one. "There are very big barriers to Australian exports of agriculture products in particular and a lot of friction in the system in terms of services.." | misterbluesky
15/12/2020 17:44 | Bozo will do a rotten lousy deal just to save his own skin ... and will sell it to idiot Brexiteers as the greatest since sliced bread. | misterbluesky

15/12/2020 17:34 | Gov unable to manage destruction of the roads and no ability to manage patch ups. We still pay for road maintenance via fuel levy. Just to make things clear. Cant manage basic infrastructure repairs - but happy to waste 100billion on a fast train. Cant manage a basic heath scheme for contributors - happy to waste millions delivering quads from elsewhere Happy to pay for emergency planning groups - who provided nout yet drew their salaries happy to let the incompetence of Quangos continue Happy to let devolved authorities ruin all that were able to. Is this what Govt is about - utter failure - and they tell us to wear a useless paper piece when entering a shop - to do what!!! Enough BJ | ![]() jl5006

15/12/2020 17:28 | We all know the UK will fully cut ties with the EU at the end of the transition period on (judgement day)....December 31 Boris had no choice but try his best for a free deal based on sovereignty and our freedom to control our future. So far so good unless he give powers away back to Brussels .. no evidence so far of doing so. | k38
15/12/2020 17:27 | Alp., I know they have on these boards. What I was asking is what is the government's position? Does coming out of the policy under which the quotas were set render them null and void? | ![]() patientcapital |
