So a reprise of the Charge of the Light Brigade this time flying the flags of The Mail, The Sun and The Telegraph with commanders in Monaco, the USA and The Channel Isles instead of Whitehall. How did a country get itself into this position whilst believing itself sovereign. There's a saying about a braggart. Well a look at the intellect of the posters on the Lloy and Barc BB's here will explain all. France has more sovereignty as a member of the EU with a veto than we now have. Albania and N. Korea, here we come, no one gets one over the Brits, we set all the rules and are free to break them at a time of our choosing, so there. Doesn't quite tally with our situation, unlike France, of having to ask the US if we can use our major weapon.

Sydney Ashurst , Thursday, December 10, 2020, 08:53:Gove is not trustworthy. The ping pong with the Lords should be completed with all clauses reinstated. The EU want to have an Aviation agreement. It must be an International one called an ICAO bi-lateral Air Services agreement, it cannot be an EU fix. With the many arrangements the EU need to have in place to continue to trade with the UK, they have to be under International rules.None of the few FTA's the EU have with other Countries have red lines to supposedly protect the single market. As Johnson has said. NO (?) Prime Minister could accept them.

So one of the first tests failed.
Neither side will change its position in the next four days.
Really what's the point of discussion.

Simples , both sides have already decided on NO DEAL, these next 4 days they are trying to give the illusion to calm everyone and get the ducks in a row for ECB and BOE / markets . simples

The markets have already decided and the fact that the markets decided a deal was there will make it all the worse for UK financials in the short term

Brexiteers accuse Ursula von der Leyen of 'blackmail' after EU demands to carry on fishing in UK waters for a year even if there is NO DEAL in return for just six months of lorries and air links running freely as talks with PM fail

By JAMES TAPSFIELD, POLITICAL EDITOR FOR MAILONLINE

PUBLISHED: 08:56, 10 December 2020 | UPDATED: 14:29, 10 December 2020

Brexiteers accused Ursula von der Leyen of trying to 'blackmail' the UK today as she pushed the button on the EU's No Deal plans - and urged increasingly panicky member states not to do 'side deals' with the UK.

The furious response came after the commission president warned the situation was 'difficult' after a three-hour dinner with Boris Johnson failed to make any headway last night.

Arriving for a Brussels summit today, she insisted leaders would discuss the situation later, after a 'final' deadline of Sunday was set to come up with a way of settling the disputes over level playing field provisions, fishing rights and enforcement.

The comments came as the EU published contingency plans, with what appeared to be an offer to smooth disruption to freight and air travel in return for ongoing access to UK waters.

The regulations would mean air safety measures would continue to be recognised, to avoid grounding planes, and carriers would still be able to fly over both territories.

Basic connections by road freight and for road passengers would also continue for six months as long as they are reciprocal. Separate regulations, if approved by EU member states, would keep the Channel Tunnel road and rail links open for two months, until Britain and France agree new safety and supervision certificates.

But in an apparent trade off the commission said it was proposing 'to create the appropriate legal framework' for 'continued reciprocal access by EU and UK vessels to each other's waters after 31 December 2020' - or until a 'fisheries agreement with the UK has been concluded'.

As it stands, legally EU fleets have no access to the UK's sovereign waters after December 31.

The documents also include a plea for increasingly restive states not to strike side deals with the UK that could mitigate the impact, saying that could 'fragment' the single market.

No chance! Boris immediately rejects EU's no deal fishing proposal - 'Taking back control'

BORIS JOHNSON has immediately rejected Brussels' proposed no deal Brexit plans after Ursula von der Leyen suggested EU fisheries should have continued access to UK waters.

The Prime Minister's official spokesman said Boris Johnson would carefully look at the proposals outlined by the European Commission but would not be willing to hand power to Brussels on fishing rights. He said: "Once we leave the end of the transition period, we will take back control of our waters and we would never accept arrangements and access to UK fishing waters that are incompatible with our status as an independent coastal state."
