18/10/2019 19:01 | ChrisPosted October 18, 2019 at 2:00 pm | PermalinkSee Martin Howe's piece, Lawyers for Britain, about the pitfalls of Boris's deal.NB the title in the link is HIGHLY MISLEADING, and has already been quoted to indicate that Howe approves of Boris's deal He does not.Howe examines first of all the few plus points of the deal and says that Boris's deal is not quite as bad as May's deal which was appalling. However, he then goes on to look at the "severely negative features" of Boris's deal and this is what Tory MPs should heed. One example quoted below from Howe's article:".....but the revised WA still contains many severely negative features. .....unfortunately the actual WA text itself, as negotiated and serially capitulated by Theresa May, will be untouched. The most important and damaging feature which remains is the long term subjection of the UK to rulings by the ECJ...."Sourcehttps:// | ![]() xxxxxy

18/10/2019 18:53 | I cant share this so here is a simple copy paste. "Today Boris Johnson stole your EHIC cards. In 2017 my son hit a wall on a bike in the South of France suffering multiple fractures requiring emergency surgery."Where are your insurance papers?" asked the hospital. We produced his EHIC card and he was sent to surgery and ten days later he was, in plaster, on a plane back to university in Frankfurt (yes, he benefitted from Erasmus too). The Greek surgeon treating him in Digne Les Bains, Provence, told us, "when you leave the EU and you lose that card you'll be writing a 20,000 cheque for that treatment or I'd be waiting for for an insurance company to give me the go ahead. What has your country done?"He was treated in a poor French town in his own impeccable room with ensuite. One of over 100 at that state hospital - no wards.Britain will never recover from the shame of Brexit". | ![]() leoneobull

18/10/2019 18:40 | Re. Macron having a point: the EU and the UN certainly need reforming, but Macron appears to be for greater control, not less. I'm in a bit of a rush - Argentine Tango night - so I'll stop there, passion beckons! | ![]() poikka
18/10/2019 18:32 | JC and Caroline Lucas and co. are really lacking in credibility by saying that our rights and so on would suffer outside of the EU. Which EU country has the best record for animal welfare? Which EU country was happily roasting and gassing its population? Which EU country hoses down and beats its demonstrators? Which EU country beats, arrests and imprisons Catalonians for demanding independence? And alongside of that, which EU country gave Scotland an Independence Referendum? | ![]() poikka
18/10/2019 18:26 | Alps - "He has a point Poika. UN, NATO, ILO, WTO, EU etc all need reform programs; evolution not revolution will be more successful." Macron is only interested in a greater EU, and is using any fault he sees in NATO to further his aims. His whinge about US disengagement in Syria, and Turkey's involvement, has nothing to do with NATO's purpose. France and the UK and other EU countries could intervene there already - if the resolve was there. Remember Libya? | ![]() poikka
18/10/2019 18:19 | Let's all be a little more thoughtful about what really matters in life... If our hunky ruggers (England or Ireland) win the world Cup and if Villa stay in the premiership _ who can honestly say that Brexit with or without a deal really matters. | ![]() jordaggy

18/10/2019 18:06 | 1CARUS I agree as ONS reports that the UK government's net contribution to the EU – that is, the difference between the money it paid to the EU and the money it received – was £11.0 billion in 2018 compared with the £20.0 billion theoretical liability. 11 into 39 gives them 3.5 years with little consideration for inflation. | ![]() rovi70
18/10/2019 17:58 | I agree with what you have said Grahamite...but we wont get a decent parliament and we wont get a tory government. The tories have just blown it forever. | ![]() mr.elbee
18/10/2019 17:52 | We need to just accept the deal so that we can get on with making trade deals around the world and establishing a good agreement with the eu. It actually matters not about the detail , the 39bln or the fishing rites. What matters is not having any financial responsibility for it when it goes pop. When push comes to shove the French and the Germans will protect their own, any country would. All of these small countries will be cut loose, we will all be lucky if neither Spain or Italy need bailing out, and that will cost us still if it happens even when we are out. The eu does need reform, you cant keep asking the 3 major contributors to relentlessly support the other countries. If you know you are going to get bailed why bother trying to stop the corruption and non-sustainable socialist policies. Sooner or later the german and french populations will say that's enough also. ( That will be more in focus 3-4 years down the line once our 39bln has run out) | ![]() 1carus

18/10/2019 17:38 | "Where the hell does this enlargement process end? Lebensraum in European Russia?" Bingo. Enlargement to include Georgia, Ukraine and whoever else they fancy. Which leads to War with Russia, obviously. EU is a busted flush as time will evidence. Major global recession and debt related implosion coming 2020. And when the economies implode, the separatists, the desire ti rule oneselves will become louder and louder. | ![]() crossing_the_rubicon
18/10/2019 17:36 | We need a reformed European Union and a reformed enlargement process Where the hell does this enlargement process end? Lebensraum in European Russia? 18/10/2019 15:52 | Democracy Spanish style. Brussels remains silent = approval. The quislings just don't know how "dangerous" anti-democracy shenanigans can be, and nor do we - yet. "The protests began after nine pro-independence leaders were jailed for between nine and 13 years by Spain's Supreme Court earlier this week. The separatists were convicted of sedition over their role in an independence referendum in 2017 which was outlawed by the Spanish courts. Another three were found guilty of disobedience and fined but not jailed. All 12 defendants denied the charges. Former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont is still wanted by the Spanish authorities for his role in the referendum. He currently resides in Belgium. If he returns to Spain, he will be arrested." | ![]() poikka |
