➡️ Just before 10pm on a Friday ⬅️ is an odd time for this kind of thing to be announced.

One defence analyst remarked that it was as if the government rather wanted no-one to notice what had happened.

The curious timing may actually draw more attention than if it had been done at a more normal hour - few doubted the government would block the deal, and shareholders in Cobham have already voted overwhelmingly in favour.

It says something of the sensitive nature of Cobham's business that much of the published version of the competition regulator's report on the takeover was simply blacked out.

In one unedited passage of the report, the Ministry of Defence said if the deal went ahead there was "a risk that the institutional framework and safeguards required by the government's security framework may be undermined".

Oh dear, chimps have really let us all down in voting for this circus.

Boris has no majority to take the UK out of the EU like he is, never mind Scotland.

I'm actually starting to feel sorry for Brexiters. The puppets that is. Many are desperate for change, and in some cases it was much needed, and sadly, the wolves have led them to their lair for a great feast without them having any idea what is ahead. What I haven't figured out yet is where Boris and a few others sit in all this. Is he as ignorant as the mass of puppets, is he aware but taking a blind eye in his quest for power, or is he one of the sinister charlatans executing their grand plan against the people. I suspect he is in the former or secondary category - perhaps a little of both. Not the last. He isn't clever enough.

Have we got a set of 'oven ready' regulations and standards.

I think I'll get a head start: my car is two and half Friesians long.

"They can produce good regulations, and bad regulations - and so can we. This doesn't give rise to any great point of principle."

Agreed.

However, depending on your position in life/society one legislative body will be more inclined to deliver in line with your life, values and morals than another. I hardly think a far right driven government is going to legislate on behalf of a working class voter in Bolsover whereas the EU might.

If you are a plutocrat or part of the wealthy elite - which we, here, are not - then this government will be right for you, but generally all of us will be less wealthier in life going forward. Your wallet might be looking good, but trust me, you'll need it.

I have to admit, I wasn't particularly a great fan on the limits placed on the power of domestic appliances.

The other side of the coin, I imagine we're all glad that electrical appliances come with a plug on these days, and that's down to Europe.

They can produce good regulations, and bad regulations - and so can we. This doesn't give rise to any great point of principle.

A very simple example of regulations when it comes to goods. In the UK there is no limit to power outputs of vehicles to be street legal. Probably the only country. None of these vehicles are legal in other countries. Best example that I know are the Red Victor (I, II and now III) Vauxhalls. Red Victor II has over 2,000hp.

I enjoyed the films but one man and his hobby has nothing to do with national policy.

You can not produce goods that are not legally accepted in other countries; your exports will be zero.

So your exports of that particular product are zero, so what? It doesn't stop you producing for domestic consumption only, possibly on an enormous scale. You have inadvertently highlighted one of the reasons for leaving - there is no reason a thing for home use should be subjected to regulations the home market isn't interested in.

Alps - "UK quality?"

Mate, I had a Volvo that rusted despite being cared for. I also had gearbox problems with a German built Ford.

My Bosch kettle is leaking.

So stop running down our country.

Anyone remember the fuss about Amber Rudd referring to someone being 'coloured'?

Here's the BBC today:

"Mama Cax was a powerful advocate for women of colour and disabled women in the fashion industry."

Whoops!

Beautiful design and interiors but reliability is a different question. UK quality?
