It has to be an admin error. If 8.5 million shares have been issued from treasury then a separate rns would have to be released explaining the reason for the issue.

Yes, it looks like yesterday's RNS is hopelessly wrong or is it today's RNS? Its sad that no one at ITV has spotted this balls up.

Yep. Unfortunately there is still a mistake in this one:

"05 Jun 2024 17:31 Transaction in Own Shares"

says

"Since the commencement of the share buyback programme announced on 7 March 2024, the Company has repurchased 46,858,199 ordinary shares in aggregate at a weighted average price of 72.41 pence per share."

That's an error.

Since buyback started they have repurchased 55,358,199 shares.
The 8,500,000 taken back out of Treasury means that yes there are 46,858,199 remaining in Treasury now - but someone has lazily also used this number as the total repurchased.

Can't believe clever people are worse at tracking these numbers than ordinary investors...

Today's RNS has an explanation that yesterday's RNS was incorrect, so 8.5m shares have been reissued!

Key dates in June:
Tomorrow ECB interest rate decision
Wed 12 FED interest rate decision
Wed 12 US inflation figures
Wed 19 UK inflation figures
Thur 20 BOE interest rate decision
Fri 21 triple witching

The ECB is expected to reduce interest rates whilst the FED is expected to hold rates.
Canada reduced their interest rates today and their inflation is higher/economy is better than the UK so I think the BOE will reduce interest rates on the 20th. Well Bungle will get his knighthood then (won't be enough to save the Tories, even if England are still in the Euros).

Well ... someone has messed up haven't they?

The RNS just now about the latest buyback uses the prior 'shares in issue value' to arrive at: "... and has 3,998,109,675 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares)."

This ignores the preceding RNS about an increase of 8.5m

Honestly - it's ridiculous - clearly two different people/teams involved and not communicating with each other...
