There clearly is some positive news out there. Right now most are too focused on a share price which is being forced lower and the CEO/Sales news for 2024. That and current losses.

At 11-12p this may well be over sold. Always big risk with AIM shares. If new orders are confirmed and GAN takes off then the share must recover.

Still funds wanting out here and the question will be when will this process be completed and the share price recover 1-2p. A positive TU would help hugely.

Definitely been several years since they performed well enough to praise them but I haven’t added to my holding since just after Americo took over and promised the moon. Would be odd atm to be praising anything they are doing Lords.

LTS - hope you don't mind my asking, but do you actually own a decent number of IQE shares? Or indeed any at all?

You constantly post negatively about it, which seems odd if you're a holder. But also odd if you're not (why bother?).

I, too, have made many negative comments about the company over the years, but at least I've tried to counterbalance this when I sensed things might be on the up again.

However I honestly can't remember the last time you had a positive word to say about them. Even when things were going OK.

Why would they sell a company that continues to make zero profits and often looses tens of millions? Investor pressure and running out of viable ways to fund all these losses! I would say that is one of the potential reasons Lemos has gone, more ham/jam tomorrow nonsense. I would imagine some of the large remaining holders here will be saying your time is running out and don’t forget about poor old Drew Nelsons share black hole/margin call dilemma

Everyone said IMG wouldn’t get sold either…

To be fair most of IQE's production is already abroad. When I asked at the AGM about moving HQ abroad they said no. ( Few years back.) Same for the performance of the underused Welsh site which they replied was in EBITDA. So why would they close it? Especially if the partnership for car batteries comes to fruition. All IQE research is based in the UK.

Lost production from drop in sales is likely in Taiwan.

Falling share price related to ongoing sellers. Not much has changed there.

Edit new lower UT price at close today.

I concur Crosswires.

Re the report into the positive effect of the CSA Catapult on the UK economy, sure that’s great for the UK economy but if IQE cannot be a viable company in the environment it is based and against competition with huge government subsidies then they have a duty to investors to find a solution that will make them viable, perhaps that is in Greensboro and on the Nasdaq…

It's well worth downloading and reading the report in the second link that was published yesterday.

I remember Americo saying in an interview around the time of the chatter around UK Gov semi conductor support, that IQE may be forced to relocate and I think this is now a major possibility. I don’t believe the Welsh side of the business is viable and is probably the weakest area of concern and drag for IQE.

Being located in Taiwan and the USA would make much more sense with who we are supplying. It wouldn’t surprise me if we also list elsewhere as again those two alternative markets would be stronger and I suspect investors would view this positively. Surely if any of this major CHIPS ACT funding becomes a reality this may well speed up such a process. Additionally if the company ends up being sold, I would imagine whoever buys it (they would inevitably be USA or SEAsia centric) would rather it wasn’t based in the UK either…

It is becoming clear that IQE can’t seem to make profits in more than the occasional year being UK based, and so perhaps the clock is ticking.

Plenty of selling still.

Re Americo, you can’t just rely on the “mega trends” coming as he liked to say, because they don’t always come along at the time you expect them or at the strength you imagine which is what has happened to Micro LED. Also the competition around wafer production for 6 and 8” is getting stronger so none of this appears to be a sure thing for IQE. Sadly it looks like this is going to be a long slog back up from these lows this time.

I still find it puzzling that insiders don’t view 12p as attractive entry point if they know the future is brighter.

Harvey Robinson, an analyst at Panmure Liberum, the City broker, said: “There had been growing investor frustration with the gap between the big vision that Americo had sold and the current reality and this is, in our view, why he has departed.”

In other words he was a ‘loco’ like King Canute.

Investing.com -- Wedbush analysts expect a strong bullish reaction from tech stocks to a likely victory for Donald Trump in the US presidential election, especially in case of a “red sweep” in Congress.

The investment bank believes that a Trump administration would prioritize AI initiatives in the US, benefiting major tech companies like Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), and Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL). These initiatives, especially within government agencies like the Department of Defense, could also provide a major boost to AI-focused firms such as Palantir (NYSE:PLTR).

I am surprised at the rise today given the election of Trump - is he likely to continue the funding of the CHIPS act ?

So day ends on a sell UT price.

I don't think anyone believes the 45p valuation for a firm not expected to turn over 175 million for 2-3 years. IQE can't even pay the bills on a daily basis. Same goes for takeover. Whoever bought it would need millions to splash out on tools and to take on the yearly losses. They would more likely gut the business and move the tools to their own sites. That or slash the sites being used and management teams.

Key thing i take from this. For IQE to expand production it needs to spend millions on new tools which it can't afford. If each new tool costs several million that tells you a story. So either IQE needs the state to fund the new tools or it needs to raise money to buy them itself. At 11-12p it won't be raising any money any time soon. Which means bigger suppliers paying or the state footing the bill.

Then above is likely a big stumbling block for big deals to happen. If the share prices was 80-90p they would simply borrow millions. Assuming they could find willing funds.

"North Carolina has more than 110 companies exporting $1.2bn of semiconductors and microelectronics around the world," notes North Carolina Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders. "This expansion validates our reputation for the best talent and research partnerships that continue to attract and retain advanced manufacturers like IQE."To help facilitate IQE's expansion, a performance-based grant of $275,000 comes from the One North Carolina Fund, which provides financial assistance to local governments to help attract economic investment and create jobs. Companies receive no money upfront and must meet job creation and capital investment targets to qualify for payment. All One NC grants require matching participation from local governments, and any award is contingent upon that condition being met.

IQE to add 109 jobs and invest $305m expanding US operation in GreensboroEpiwafer and substrate maker IQE plc of Cardiff, Wales, UK has announced an expansion of its manufacturing facility in Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina, subject to customer commitments and funding from the US federal CHIPS and Science Act. The firm plans to add 109 jobs and invest $305m over several years.IQE has operated for more than a decade in Greensboro, where it has 72 staff, using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) to manufacture epiwafers for the defense and aerospace industries. This potential investment would add complementary metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) epitaxy and provide a new technology for the production of chips serving the electric vehicle (EV) market."Greensboro has proven to be a strategic location for IQE and has provided access to exceptional talent," says interim CEO Jutta Meier. "We look forward to continuing our partnership with the city as we progress further with our application for Government funding via the CHIPS Act which, along with funding commitments from the State, will provide us with the capital to invest and expand our local footprint," she adds.

My comment about the company on the "UPS" thread yesterday and selected to do well during this month....

UPS
IQE 11.60p ( 11.52 v 11.68p )

It has reached a point where someone will bid for the company if not moving higher. Brokers have 45p fair price and support at this price.
