12/10/2018 14:28 | Apple wanted Finisar to complete the 100% cycle from manufacturing to mass production of VCSEL’s which would have included the epitaxy process. Finisar are having great problems with yield & are a non starter when it comes to wafer production (6”). It must be only a matter of time before they reach a similar agreement with IQE as they have with Dialog SC. IQE are an open source foundry so such an agreement would not jeopardize the other customers that IQE deal with. Apple are certainly paranoid about their supply chain so surely it’s only a matter of ‘when’ & not ‘possibly̵ | picobird
12/10/2018 13:16 | This is a interesting development (see link below). Clearly Apple are keen to secure their supply chain Yesterday I posted an article that suggested that Apple might, go as far as to, try and produce VCSEL chips themselves. I have speculated before, that IQE probably have the know how and expertise to produce VCSEL chips in research type volumes. If they could get hold of the equipment to produce chips in high volumes my guess is that IQE could convert to volume chip manufacture. If Finisar flop then maybe Apple might look to going with some sort of deal with IQE to obtain a secure supply of VCSEL chips for FACE ID and Augmented Reality. I mention "Augmented Reality" as a world facing 3d sensor will most likely require a lot more VCSEL chip area vis-a-vis Face ID. The fact that an AR 3D camera has not yet appeared on an iPhone may in part be due to the limited "secure" supply of VCSELs. There may be other reasons such as the non-availability of inexpensive SPAD cameras etc Apple opens Dialog box of cash: $600m deal for a chunk of chip biz's power-management-fu Staff snapped up and IP licensed by iPhone giant By Richard Speed 11 Oct 2018 at 18:05 SHARE ▼ Apple has agreed to hand $600m over to the Dialog Semiconductor in return for a slice of the chipmaker's business and brains.............. Yesterday's post: .........Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) continues to insist VCSEL demand will be "massive" in 2019 and 2020, and talks of internally developing VCSEL appears to be a "negotiating tactic at this point." Apple has looked into fabrication in Taiwan and could produce its own VCSEL in 2020 or 2021 if its current suppliers don't increase production to meet demand.............. | maxwellsdemon
12/10/2018 11:46 | I would think they will use a strategy to stop the price from running away too quickly. These city boys including the MM's like to help each other out as much as possible. Sadly for us PI's... | blueflame

12/10/2018 10:44 | If we hit £1 Coltrane will start closing as their recent position is opened around 75p. We will see another short reduction reporting by Tuesday as I am sure one of them have recuded today possibly Marshall. Trend is very positive | mhassanriaz
12/10/2018 10:42 | TRP have indeed increased their holding by circa 4m shares but more interestingly they have recalled more than 2.5m shares if I have read it right. Hopefully this is the start of a mass recall. | blueflame
12/10/2018 10:04 | T. Rowe increased their position again? | whosaninja
12/10/2018 09:51 | Picobird: Yes I agree. I think we are very close to seeing a trend reversal for several reasons. 1. The shares are no longer expensive against any metric. 2. The new machines are coming into full production. 3. The full year results are approaching which should finally see some 'jam' 4. Shorters are finally reducing having been waiting, in my opinion, for this long predicted US sell off to provide an extra few pence of profit. 5. Weak share holders have been shaken out, either by fear, margin calls or stop losses being triggered. 6. Profit takers have probably taken their profits and are ready to re-enter. In my opinion that means more buyers than sellers in the market which in turn could bring in the momentum players and chartists once the uptrend is evident. | bocase
12/10/2018 09:35 | Looking at the Simply Wall St IQE analysis updated yesterday they value the shares currently @£1.22 as being fair value. That’s before yesterdays Investors Roadshow update which only the analysts are privy to. It just needs an RNS now to complete a sentiment change in my view. | picobird
12/10/2018 08:50 | Blue indeed. Yesterday's buying, against the market trend from 2pm onwards, continuing today, could be a result of positivity at yesterday's investors roadshow. | bocase

11/10/2018 22:15 | See that Finisar have 22 vacancies for their new plant in Sherman and quite open what their VCSELs are being used for"Join the team as we build and start manufacturing in our new facility in Sherman, Texas where we will produce vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) used in Apple's iPhone camera to allow features such as Face ID, Animoji and Portrait mode selfies. What are VCSELs? It's an acronym that is pronounced "vixels" they are small semiconductor devices that emit light vertically and enable 3D sensing. " | lpavlou
11/10/2018 22:14 | In my opinion the demand for iphones and ipads could be met with the current market supplies but Apple's upcoming innovations and ventures in the auto industry would need large supplies It makes sense now what Dr. Drew has been brewing by investing in plant and equipment. I think Doc is working towards topline numbers rather than looking for a man who would account these numbers. Lastly as Doc said IQE is not a one trick pony so lets hope we get more big fishes on the deck. | mhassanriaz |
