Couldn't be a worse time for an investor roadshow IMO. Institutions are bailing from the market in big numbers and the market leaders have been hammered. A really bad sign for the overall market.

IQE had a great finish yesterday but has been weak today along with the market as a whole. Sitting just above yesterday's 52 week low. Still doesn't seem to be hit as bad as some of the leaders (FEVR, FDP, GAW etc) which could be a good sign for the medium to long term. Maybe we will see some rotation back into the semiconductor sector?

In the short term, not a good time to be invested in growth stocks generally and certainly not falling knives (which unfortunately IQE is). As I have said before, it will turn at some point and I genuinely hope it will be soon, but with the market the way it is, I would be very surprised.

Be careful. It's dangerous out there just now. FWIW, I'm 98% cash.
M.

Cheek212:

That is good news. It would be very beneficial to get rid of the mantle of one of the most shorted shares.

Unfortunately the price has not risen to reflect the buying back to close but of course the Nasdaq and Aim are heavily down (Dow down 380 points as I write) so I suppose all tech stocks are being hit.

It is a move in the right direction though and hopefully we can build on that with some good news from the roadshow tomorrow.

One bit of good news - wellington have reduced their short by 0.3% and have now dropped out off the shorttracker. Reduced on the 8th October, so we are now below 10% of reported shorts. Whoppee!!!

Not being totally in touch with the term ‘Investors Roadshow’ I initially had visions of IQE holding such an event on a double decker bus in their carpark😊
Anyway after completing a google search it seems that this could be as big as it sounds. There are a couple (if not more) of investment services banks that operate these roadshows in Frankfurt.
I believe Peel Hunt might also be involved it is after all in everybodies interest to
promote this company (IQE) in the light that it deserves. They have new products to
launch which we will no doubt hear about tomorrow together with the possibility of
bigger fish wanting a piece of that action, hence the term ‘Investors Roadshow’
Fingers crossed the share price needs a dose of something, or at least the LTH’s do.

If it’s any consolation, if you think losing 50% in a year is bad , fever tree has lost 30% in a month , & Vrs is getting hammered now.

I really believe IQE share price will overtake Vrs soon .

Welcome back to planet earth Diplomat65. Looks like those graphene coated heat panels [VRS?] helped with your safe re-entry?

On a serious note, not so sure about the 'commencing'? According to the event list, it's just a, 'one day wonder'. I say 'one day wonder' as I wonder if one day, the share price will return to 157p, the point where we were daft enough not to sell? LOL!

The investors roadshow tomorrow will be interesting and I wish I could be there. First question - why has your share price halved over the past six months? Second question - What have you done to counter this drop?Third question - why would I want to invest my money in your shares when they are being constantly pushed downwards? Fourth question - why have you not yet appointed a new Finance Director? You announced on your last results that final interviews where being undertaken early September - it is now almost mid October! The BOD need to pull their fingers out if anyone wants to invest money into this business - third highest shorted share on the LSE. Four out of the five shorted shares have all issued profit warnings and suffered financial difficulties. IQE is the only one that apparently hasn't so why is it so heavily shorted!!

In my experience, large scale shorting exercises can damage a company as potential customers will look at the share price, see it continually falling and wonder if there is a problem with the business which is effecting the share price. Whilst LTH are confident that things will improve, new clients don't have the long term knowledge about what's going on and I have seen businesses lose customers because of shorting attacks. On the positive side, there doesn't seem to have been any recent increase in the large shorts but also 10%+ is a large amount that needs to be bought back at some stage and the longer the IIs wait, the less shares will be available to buy. The BOD need to find a new supportive II to start buying heavily and then this will fly - only a matter of time, but the announcement of a new CFO will also help and needs to be actioned soon IMO.

I'd be inclined to agree Jim, great LT prospects but there is a technical battle of wills being played out here.

Still, simply nothing like enough stock being freed-up at these levels.

Q. Do shorters have sufficient leverage and more importantly time to drive this down to sub 60p, where IMO they need to be if they are to properly shake the tree. Then again, shorts will find themselves completing with others for cheap stock.

What to do..? Pray..? or really prey?

A lot at stake here. IMHO management are wise to keep well out of it and let the numbers do the talking.

Interesting post bocase. I have come round to the view that a company needs to be pro active in managing the share price.

Jim:

I agree. I am very bullish longer term and have a substantial long term holding but companies can and do get severely damaged by shorting activity and a decimated share price. There is much the company could have done in the way of re-assuring the market in the light of the share price fall.

If PR was not important large companies would not have PR departments. I do agree though, if you have the funds it is a raging buy on a PEG of 0.55

Having said that the larger shareholders are holding and not reducing and in fact some are adding to their holdings. They do not appear to have any doubts. Take advantage is my line.

Silborgz - I think you to reread - they have plenty of cash for further capital investment, all raised and sitting in the bank - also take note that IQE have actually clarified that!!

Criterion Capital have recently announced they are closing down their fund. They did have A notifiable short a few weeks back but dipped below0.5%. Are they out completely or do we reckon they will need to buy back?
