06/7/2017 06:34 | No, There's a real determination that the CS Cluster will become a European hub of excellence, bringing together Academia centred on The Universites of Cardiff and Bristol, a major new Innovation Centre about to be built which will incubate start-ups, right through to the manufacturing end with IQE and Infineon (formerly INMOS). There are over 600 firms in various hi-tech areas in the region which have been identified as potential beneficiaries of being associated with the CS Cluster. There's a heck of a lot more going on than meets the eye. We are not just singing druids in Wales, you know! Even the academics who spoke were gung-ho about the development of the supply chain from laboratory to production. Prof Diana Huffaker, a silicon valley import, spoke of making Cardiff the all-round European centre of excellence in CS. I was impressed that Dr Wyn Meredith (now there's a Welsh name, look you) co-located the Uni's CS center with IQE's plant, and set it up on a for-profit model, as against the usual academic not-for-profit grant model. | shavian
05/7/2017 22:28 | Being a shareholder aside, it is great to hear a story of growth and optimism and new technology.. where in the UK.. old git mode..we have had decades of decline of many industries, and especially so for Wales where mines/work has been long in decline, so a much needed boost. If you think of bleeding edge technology Wales would be the last place I would expect it (except I know different as a shareholder for 4+ years). Politicians back many scemes purely for making the news, but lacking substance. I feel that this new industry is real and tangible - though personally unclear of whether it will be a major employer in Wales/UK or whether it will R&D only with Far East doing bulk of production. | dr_smith
05/7/2017 21:29 | Good to meet Sweenoid and Hammered2 at the SE Wales Compound Semiconductor launch this evening. Fascinating event, with IQE and Cardiff University at the forefront, but I have not heard so many acronyms per hour since I left the RAF 37 years ago. Drew Nelson was detained elsewhere and was subbed by Chris Meadows, IQE's Head of Open Innovation who gave an upbeat presentation showing that IQE's components are EVERYWHERE, like in an estimated 55% of the world's smartphones. 'CS Connected' is the new brand name for the Compound Semiconductor cluster of intended activity in SE Wales and SW England, and most of the presentations were concerned with the promotion of activity in developing a supply chain of firms to form a mini Silicon Valley of CS activity anchored on IQE and cardiff Uni. One point from the Q & A ( thanks to Sweenoid) was that IQE was being very coy about the LG plant in Newport, obviously pending the upcoming decision by the Welsh Government. | shavian
05/7/2017 15:31 | Report: Apple Hopes to Replace Fingerprints With a 3D Face Scanner on iPhone 8 ...........The sources say that designers are focused on increasing the speed of the sensor’s recognition capabilities and that it only takes “a few hundred milliseconds” to unlock the phone. It can reportedly recognize faces even if the phone is laying flat on a table. Because the 3D scanner uses more data points, it is said to be more secure than the fingerprint scanner. That would be a leap forward in phone-based facial recognition. Both the facial recognition and iris recognition software on the Samsung Galaxy S8 have notoriously been easy to fool with a photograph. But the Galaxy S8 is only a 2D scan. Considering the fact that Apple has gone 10 years with a remarkable security record on the iPhone, it’s probably safe to say that this won’t be released until it’s extremely tight............ | maxwellsdemon

05/7/2017 11:18 | Thanks Sweetnoid for the info (& all the others). Nice bounce off the support level this morning with the added news flow. Managed a significant top up before which hopefully was the end of the retrace. | picobird
05/7/2017 11:06 | toffeeman- I don't do reassurance, I post facts, man-up to be a successful investor you need patience, resources you can afford to lose and balls of steel, I have all 3 ;-) my best investments have paradoxically been when my original investments have been decimated, everyone else ran, panicked...I just bought more, if you think a TINY retreat in a progressive share price rise which will inevitably IMHO go to 125p and beyond is frightening, then you should put your money in a building society- no offense intended. as to the timing of the tiny sale by T Rowe-Price , no one has commented on the date they sold the shares. they sold AT HUGE PROFIT on the LAST DAY of their quarterly earnings calendar, realizing a great gain that could be reported to shareholders. Good business tactics that ;-) looking forward to the meeting this evening, but not as much as the lunch that will precede it :-) | sweenoid

05/7/2017 08:54 | Good time to be buying the pullback. * Today - Compound Semiconductor Cluster bash - hopefully get some IQE feedback from sweenoid / hammers later on. * 14th July - IQE's Newport expansion plans decision. * 18th July ?? - Trading Update. | someuwin
05/7/2017 08:32 | This looks to me a repeat of the share price action in late March. Positive results/AGM, sharp uplift to SP, hopes of imminent news, no news, price drifts down, buyers realise the great long term prospects and come back in, gradual move back up to new highs. Now would seem a good time to buy, froth has been blown off and business as usual starting again. | mad foetus
04/7/2017 20:22 | I am still I am guessing that the 3D camera on the selfie side of the iphone 8 will be based on "structured light" and be used primarily for face recognition and generation of 3D facial pictures.. Below are a couple of short videos explaining/demonstra In the first video coded spots are projected but in other systems a series of projections of coded spots or stripes are sometimes used. Because the structured light system uses triangulation the depth accuracy is high for distances not greatly in excess of the separation between the camera and the projector. With a mobile handset the distance between the camera and the projector cannot be great. So I think that for distances of a few meters or more a Time of Flight system is more suitable. So I guess there will be a ToF camera on the backside (for AR) and a structured light camera on the selfie side (for face recognition). | maxwellsdemon
04/7/2017 11:48 | QS99 You are saying that the growth is going to be inside normal parameters and if you are correct, then selling is the right thing to do.. Although you would have done better to have done so last week. Both Peel Hunt and Singer suggest that the growth will be exceptional and have raised their target price to levels well above these.. Numbers will be increased once a real handle on the upturn can be assessed later on in the second half...Yield on a stock like this ?? In two years time if all goes to plan 78p will look like sea level... | sailastra

04/7/2017 11:08 | i'm out, the N1 note has 2019, so 2 years out from now, EV/EBITDA at 15 times, with no yield, that is toppy IMO....DYOR and GLA | qs99
04/7/2017 10:54 | Rude not to top up again around 75-77p after recent action. So I have. | maxibrit2
04/7/2017 10:52 | Worth reposting from N+1 Singer yesterday... "...IQE has performed extremely well during the first half of the year, but we expect plenty more excitement in H2. The group remains extremely well placed to take advantage of the high demand for Photonics wafers, which contain a higher level of IP and generate higher margins than Wireless wafers. We outlined three areas which could drive material upgrades in our 24 March note “Upgrade cycle set to continue” and believe that H2 will see these expectations begin to be realised. The shares are already factoring in an element of these upgrades but we believe the potential size and scope justifies this. The most high profile of the opportunities is the rumoured VCSEL array which will feature on the 10th anniversary iPhone. We believe this opportunity alone could drive 75%+ adj. EPS upgrades based on an FY’18 exit run rate (40%+ on a fully taxed basis). This is prior to any further potential upgrades relating to the GaN on Silicon opportunity with MACOM or the full service DFB laser opportunity." | someuwin
04/7/2017 10:31 | I agree, it was looking overbought short term and so nothing that has happened in the past week should cause alarm...A fall below the 50 day moving average would be of concern..i.e. a drop through 70p.. However I have taken the opportunity to add a few more, earlier on this morning.. The outlook here is just too exciting to ignore but the risks are always there to be considered | sailastra
04/7/2017 09:52 | Looks like those that sold out are waiting to get back in, including the prior reluctant holder. Thought we'd seen the back of him. | jugu |
