Grim reaper sharpening his IAG scythe. [He will also axe 33% = 125p within 3 months of reading CSP's first half results 7am 14 May. Viewings & bookings down 95% will be a hint]. All imho. DYOR

1m will be the new distance quoted, it needs to be that for airlines, pubs, restaurants, etc to get a viable density to make it worth opening.

If flights start in July and they expect a reasonable 40% capacity - with the only thing preventing people booking would be loss of income rather than lack of desire - and upwards from there, with restructuring of contract changes meaning no more legacy contracts and effective cost saving put in place, I can see 2021 being a year of profit.I've not tended to follow panic overselling and it's done well for me so far. I'm not selling - like I've said I've loaded up some more and in for the long term. If they fold, then so be it - but I currently have offsetted the drop in price with IAG with others in my portfolio that have since gone up a lot so I'm not actually losing out.

Wilc42 - the UK Gov is recommending use of 'face coverings' (not masks) in certain locations.

to implement social distancing on a plane

every middle seat empty would not be enough

every second and third row would need to be empty aswell

otherwise the virus could easily be transmitted from someone seated in either of the two rows behind you

it's just not going to happen

can't fly planes with 78% of the seats empty

On Sky News...
Did I just hear Mr O'Leary, say people need to sit together on flight????
He goes out of his way to split you up on a flight, unless you pay extra to him!!!
Hilarious

spob speaketh the truth. Air France bailout was loans. Extra debt to cover trading losses. All comes out of shareholders' hide.

Carter633 and the many like you 'oh it has gone down a lot so must be good value', what if there has been a fundamental negative change? Carbon-farting virus taxis no longer a desirable business in previous scale?

IAG net assets were £7 bn at 31 December 2019, £6 bn at 31 March 2020. What do you think net assets at 31 March 2021 will be?

When you have written the number down on a piece of paper, including the minus sign, reflect for a few moments then salvage 57% of your investment [=178p/312p] and SELL SELL SELL. Do something useful with that 57% and once a month look at the sliding IAG price toward 5p by July 2021 and be thankful.

You are welcome. All imho. DYOR.

Only way I can see this surviving is a government bail out

Which means the airline continues after the virus, but shareholders get Zilch

...and unreasonable pessimism leads to potential bargains. I've loaded up and dropped my average to just 312p now (still a way off from the current price but I'm happy with that alongside risk)

Asia-Pacific market in the red overnight Weak .start in EU majors. If the increase in infections in the EU do not subside, lifting of restrictions will be short lived. .
China is seeing a gentle return of numbers infected.

UK gov said yesterday, social distancing to be enforced for a year at least

although can't see how that can be enforced on public transport

so i guess they will have to concede to making everyone wear masks on planes and in airports

then there is the other issue of 2 weeks quarantine when entering the UK

and maybe 2 weeks quarantine when landing in another country

so a 2 week holiday would take 6 weeks

not many people going abroad on holiday this year, if that is the case

I don’t see any difference between cruise ships and planes, cruise ships far more infectious, thousands more people on board, do they all stay in their cabins once on board and meals passed through a hatch. Seems to be optimism about the cruise market, abject pessimism over airlines.
