Time will tell. We should remain open to all sensible opinions. Blindly following a falling company isn't always a great strategy. Only my opinion...

Willie Walsh has had his day, it`s going to need new skills to navigate it`s way out of the plunge in travel but also the plunge in it`s stock price.

I can envisage WW having a payoff once this round of funding is done and dusted.

The share price has a lot further to sink yet imo.

It's going to be a while before passenger numbers are anywhere near what they were pre COVID. Businesses are operating differently and may continue to do so even after a vaccine is found. This could go anywhere but I suspect that the end result will be a much more slimline operation at the operational level. Far fewer aircraft.... Could take many years for this to come back, if it ever does! I'd be very careful averaging down following this.. you may have a long wait.. Hey what do I know. Just a thought.

Good morning I did warn you.

Transatlantic airline group IAG posted a second quarter operating loss before exceptional items of €1.36bn as the Covid-19 pandemic led to a 95.3% drop in passenger capacity. The carrier also announced that it will tap financial markets for €2.75bn in fresh equity with its largest shareholder, Qatar Airways Group, which owns 25.1% of the company, having already indicated its full support for the decision. Cash at period end stood at €6,016m, having reduced by €667m since end of year 2019, on top of a further €2.1bn in committed and undrawn general and aircraft facilities.

Please do your own research as always.

I think the staff costs are only 12% of total costs for BA, the main costs are leasing and fuel, now look at that hedging fiasco which cost billions, the staff are left to foot the bill of inept decisions...What a way to treat your staff, look at southwest and the way the staff, as a result of Covid, would follow their management down a dark alley as a result of how the have been treated.. a very stark contrast...BA is storing up problems- industrial for years to come...

Even if it takes 5 years. I will not sell a single share, only increase to lower average cost per share.

Fact is that IAG performed very well before corona, and there must be a vaccin someday....

"IAG expects that global passenger demand will not return to 2019 levels until at least 2023"

- That's the quote that some newspapers have chosen to highlight.

I am surprised that this measure has to wait until after the agm, rather than being an egm issue? (Perhaps the formal notice period for an egm would be so slow as to not make much difference)

What do you do when the Company is bringing in no revenues out of no fault of their own.

You cut costs and fuel and staff are the two highest costs for BA.

IAG could chop one or two of the airlines from IAG, but that will not help BA will it.

IAG as a group is there to support the group of Cos whether BA or Iberia or Aer Lingus etc

Will still be some on here thinking the pilots and cabin crew are still due overinflated salaries. Maybe this may let the seriousness of situation sink in

Yes that is perhaps the maths. However, notwithstanding the current shareholders who have committed to pro rata support the new issue shares, for all new equity holders they want the price as low as possible at the time new shares are priced. Remember the basics, they need to raise £2.75B, they have not stated they are issuing x shares at y price just how much they are to raise. It could and likely will be disastrously dilutive for current holders. There is no incentive for the share price to be held up. Existing holders who plan to support fully it matters not what the price is. To new shareholders the lower the better as it dilutes the current base more the lower the price. This is a debt for equity swap in all but name. Dressed up to read as a normal issue but a distressed issue. They would have desperately wanted a standard placing but there were no takers. Old equity will be lucky to be more that 20% when all done.

No wonder they have to raise funds via a share issues. Net Debt is already at 4.2 x ebitda, from 1.3x as of June 30th.
