I live less than a couple of miles from Thales UK offices. The UK arm is not super large but compact. It does suggest a strong possibility of Edefice being a part of that supplied by Thales to Bacs. No harm in hoping. Regards

Third para:

The SafeSign family of products fulfils the tasks of authentication, identity management and strong PKI security on one single infrastructure. The SafeSign suite consists of the SafeSign Authentication Server – a multi-channel authentication platform; SafeSign Management Server – token and identity management from Intercede; SafeSign Crypto Module – a hardware security module for secure storage and use of cryptographic keys; SafeSign Personal Security Module – a highly flexible, highly secure end-user token.

cant see us actually named? but am certain it is us. i loved this para, and partic the last sentence. thoughts of gresham entered my head...

Paul Meadowcroft, head of transaction security of the e-Security activities of Thales, said: "With Internet fraud, ID theft and 'card not present fraud' on the rise, username and passwords do not provide strong enough protection. Blue chip corporations are transiting a delicate business phase where survival means they have to offer multi-business channels to meet customer demands. They also have to keep IT costs to a minimum and they need to be able to integrate new solutions into existing legacy systems that are easy and quick to deploy. It is a complicated order, however, and companies need to become as sophisticated in their processes as the criminals that steal from them. We believe that with SafeSign, Thales has created the ultimate transaction security solution. Early feedback from financial giants like BACS, one of our customers, indicates that our solutions are not only comprehensive, but they in fact lie at the very heart of such a system's success."

Yes, thought that IGP were involved with the SafeSign™ Technology. That's what it says on its web-site, so may be encouraging.

Missed this news article...

Otherwise, fairly quiet. Interims in a month or two, should give us an indication where this one is heading.

kmacgre, yes, that certainly has more than a whiff of igp about it ie This complexity includes having to authenticate customers from multiple channels and with multiple identities. By authenticating and managing all identities from a single platform...

as you say, can the cash last out until the rev comes in - thats the million dollar question.

Keith,

I've found it quite difficult to pin down exactly where IGP are involved - for the reasons you have mentioned.

My post above is speculation based on the layout of the item rather than my knowledge of BACSTEL-IP - which is extremely limited.

Garth, you're saying that Safesign can be supplied without the edefice management part? You may be right although I'm not sure.

The part that is important to banks etc; seems to be and I quote,"Its success stems from the fact that banks today have to contend with vast amounts of complexity within their transaction systems. This complexity includes having to authenticate customers from multiple channels and with multiple identities. By authenticating and managing all identities from a single platform," end quote.

I believe that edefice is integral in making the above mentioned complexity more straightforward. I have a strong hunch that edefice is smarter and more advanced than most of us have as yet understood.
Since my previous post, the share price has dropped another 1P. I really want to learn how much cash is left as of 30 Sept. If we can get through to profit without the begging bowl, then buying in now is fairly underpinned.
Regards, Keith

Thank you for an excellent post. I agree with your overall conclusions.

WRT the BACSTEL-IP item I read it that the core Safesign element was at the heart of BACSTEL-IP and that the "The other SafeSign components " paragraph was indicating that the Safesign Management Server was marketed as an extra add-on.

A possibility?

IGP with their invisible profile are hard to figure out and many of their MOD or health type deals are most probably NDA (non disclosure).
Just for any interested party who thinks that 17p is a price to sell, have a read of the Thales/Bacs news. Edefice is not mentioned, however if you dig...

BACSTEL-IP Automated Payments Clearing Security Using SafeSign™ Technology, Set to Become One of the Biggest Public Key Infrastructure Systems in Operation

London, UK - eema, the independent, European not-for-profit association for e-Business, announced the winner of the eema Award for Excellence in Secure Electronic Business at ISSE/ICCC 2004 last night. The award was presented at the Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony of the sixth annual Information Security Solutions Europe in Berlin, Germany.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Taken from Thales website:

SafeSign is already embedded at the heart of BACS’ new internet-based transaction system, BACSTEL-IP. Since its official launch last autumn, SafeSign has attracted enormous amounts of interest from banks and financial institutions around the world and further customer announcements are expected before the summer. Its success stems from the fact that banks today have to contend with vast amounts of complexity within their transaction systems. This complexity includes having to authenticate customers from multiple channels and with multiple identities. By authenticating and managing all identities from a single platform, SafeSign not only provides ease of management but also better customer service and reduced levels of fraud.

The other SafeSign components are:
SafeSign Authentication Server: a multi-channel authentication platform that allows any transaction from any channel – e.g. PC, telephone, mobile, interactive television and other access points – to be authenticated from one server.
SafeSign Management Server: the SafeSign Management Server, powered by edeficeTM from Intercede, provides user and token management. This allows the management of user identities; including creation, deletion and amendment of all forms of identity be it smart card, token, biometrics or PKI. The centralised key management function provides strong security for the storage and use of cryptographic keys.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now unless I have got things horribly wrong, the "management of user identities" is what Intercede provide for this BACSTEL-IP.

Additionally sales have been clocking up where ID cards have been sold and I get a possible whiff of another US government deal that may include Edefice. Futher, we know of at least one large UK government deal using the Winmagic disk thingy. Intercede are the only CAPS approved supplier for Winmagic so far.

All in all the share price is lousy. Retail investors are not highly regarded or valued by Intercede as was clearly shown at the last fund raising which was a public disgrace.

However, this tiny outfit may prove an interesting and worthwhile punt, especially at these prices. Only for the brave and all imho etc.
Regards to all holders.
